Gunmen launch attack on military-escorted vehicle in Bawku

The vehicle, with registration number GA 4454-09, was being escorted by the military. Despite the presence of the officers, the attackers proceeded with the assault.

Although no deaths have been reported, eyewitnesses described the shooting as intense.

Bawku continues to be unstable, despite several efforts to bring peace, including the enforcement of a dawn-to-dusk curfew.

On Tuesday, January 16, President John Mahama visited Bawku and Nalerigu to explore long-term solutions to the ongoing conflict in the region.

Sack any appointee who refuse to declare their assets after a month – Domelevo suggests to Mahama

Member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to remove any government officials who fail to declare their assets to the Auditor-General as required by law.

Speaking on JoyNews on Thursday, January 16, 2025, Domelevo stressed the need for the president to show a strong commitment to fighting corruption and promoting accountability within his administration.

“First and foremost, Mahama can make a public statement that I am not going to protect anybody, because he promised Ghanaians that he was going to fight corruption. Even if there is any audit finding and maybe you’re not able to respond to the issues, I will use that finding to take my job away from you. Because you must not be the one who is misusing public funds and not being able to account for it,” he stated.

Daniel Domelevo pointed out the legal obligation for public officeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.

“I’m not going to tolerate that. If I were he, I would have just watched my appointees after one month and called all of them. How many of you have declared your assets and your liabilities to the Auditor-General? Those who have declared, this way; those who have not declared, this way. When I finish it. Those who have not declared, you are all going home because you have violated the constitution,” he remarked.

Domelevo emphasized that failing to declare assets, as required by the Constitution, makes holding public office illegal.

He urged the president to take firm action to enforce the law and maintain public confidence in his leadership.

According to Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution and the Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act, 1998 (Act 550), all public officials must submit a written declaration of their assets, properties, and liabilities to the Auditor-General.

This declaration must be done before assuming office, at the end of every four years, and when leaving office.

I thought NPP would have cancelled the court case – ‘Pained’ Nyantakyi

Former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has expressed disappointment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for not supporting him in his ongoing legal struggles.

He expected the party to take action and help resolve the corruption charges against him, but they did not intervene. Nyantakyi mentioned that when he ran for the NPP parliamentary primaries in the Ejisu constituency, the issue was raised within the party, but nothing was done about it.

“Even during my prime time to contest the seat, it was an issue within the party. I thought that if I contested, they [NPP] would have canceled the court case,” he said in an interview with Hot FM.

Nyantakyi lamented the emotional toll and financial strain of his five-year legal battle, which remains unresolved.

“I haven’t spent any government money, I haven’t killed anybody, but I’m still in court,” he lamented.

Although Nyantakyi did not mention the specific case, he is facing charges of fraud and corruption linked to the #Number 12 exposé by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Abdulai Alhassan, the former GFA Northern Regional head and the second accused, is also charged with conspiracy to commit fraud. Both have pleaded not guilty.

The last court session on June 10, 2024, saw Justice Marie-Louise Simmons announce that the High Court would wait for the Court of Appeal’s decision before continuing with Nyantakyi’s trial.

The case was postponed to October 16, 2024, after the court failed to meet on July 10, 2024, when both parties were due to give updates on the appeal.

  • Gold prices to rise in 2025 due to US interest rate cuts, others – Databank Research

Gold prices to rise in 2025 due to US interest rate cuts, others – Databank Research

Gold prices are projected to experience a significant surge in 2025, according to the latest projections from Databank Research in its Ghana Market Outlook 2025 report, released in January.

Currently, the price of gold stands at approximately $2,693.60 per ounce. The anticipated rise in gold prices, according to Databank Research, will be driven by global political tensions and possible interest rate reductions by the US Federal Reserve.

“We believe 2025 will be a promising year for gold. We expect prices to rise between USD 2,500 and USD 3,100, supported by geopolitical tensions and potential interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve,” parts of the 37-page report noted.

In light of this, the report advised local investors to diversify their portfolios by considering financial products linked to gold, such as gold-backed securities.

“We recommend that local investors diversify their portfolios into gold-backed securities to capitalize on this potential price increase and hedge against the local currency depreciation,” the document further stated.

The report provides a comprehensive analysis and forecast of Ghana’s economic and market conditions for the year, highlighting key trends that could influence the performance of key sectors.

A rise in gold prices presents positive prospects for Ghana’s economy, given the significant contribution of the mining sector to the nation’s revenue. The mining sector remains the largest taxpayer, contributing 22.7% of Ghana’s direct taxes. In 2023 alone, the gold mining industry generated GH₵11.55 billion (US$980 million) in taxes.

Higher gold prices could further strengthen Ghana’s currency by increasing export earnings and foreign exchange reserves, as gold mining plays a pivotal role in the country’s economy. In 2023, the mining sector accounted for 47.4% of Ghana’s nominal GDP and 17.1% of its real GDP. Gold exports alone made up 62.1% of the country’s total export income.

GFA set to dismiss John Paintsil, Joseph Laumann as Black Stars coaches – Reports

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly planning to remove Black Stars assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann.

This decision is part of efforts to restructure the coaching team and bring in more skilled staff as Ghana prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Reports suggest the GFA is in talks with a Belgian and a Serbian coach to replace Paintsil and Laumann.

Meanwhile, the future of head coach Otto Addo remains uncertain as the GFA works to build a strong technical team for the Black Stars.

The decision is part of efforts to improve the Black Stars’ performance after their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Otto Addo and his coaching team have faced heavy criticism from the public due to their poor results during the qualifiers.

Currently, the Black Stars are tied at the top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers, with nine points from four games.

When the qualifiers continue in March 2025, the team will play Chad at home and face Madagascar away.

  • ‘Poor’ – Kwesi Nyantakyi on Otto Addo’s performance as Black Stars coach

‘Poor’ – Kwesi Nyantakyi on Otto Addo’s performance as Black Stars coach

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi has expressed disappointment in Otto Addo’s tenure as head coach of the Black Stars.

Addo, who was hired in March 2024 on a three-year deal, has faced heavy criticism for failing to qualify the national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)—a setback Ghana hasn’t experienced in 20 years.

In six qualifying matches, the Black Stars failed to secure a single win, finishing last in Group F with only three points.

Over the past year, the senior team recorded just two wins in 14 games, with Addo in charge of 10 of those matches.

Nyantakyi, a former CAF 1st Vice President, believes these poor results clearly show that Addo has not lived up to expectations.

“With the performance of the Black Stars under Otto Addo, everything shows that he is not doing well,” he told Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.

“The last time Ghana failed to qualify for an AFCON tournament was twenty years ago and under Otto Addo, we did not qualify so he has not performed.”

While Nyantakyi refrained from directly calling for Addo’s dismissal, he emphasized that the results speak for themselves.

“I am not in the position to say he has to be sacked or stay but the numbers are there for all of us to see,” he added.

The GFA has not yet decided on Otto Addo’s future after the team’s failure to qualify for the AFCON.

However, the Black Stars are scheduled to meet again in March for their World Cup qualifying matches.

Kudus was really suffering – Graham Potter on player’s early substitution

West Ham’s new manager, Graham Potter, has explained why Mohammed Kudus was substituted during their match against Fulham on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

According to Potter, the midfielder was struggling during the game, which led to the decision to take him off.

Kudus was replaced by Danny Ings just after the 60-minute mark, with West Ham holding a 2-1 lead at the time.

However, many West Ham fans were unhappy with the substitution, arguing that it was unnecessary to take off one of their key players.

Responding to the criticism, Graham Potter, managing his first Premier League game for West Ham, explained the decision.

The former Chelsea manager said Kudus was having a tough time during the match, and he praised Danny Ings for making a positive impact after coming on.

“We moved Mohammed Kudus a little bit higher up, and he helped us. Danny Ings coming on probably gave us more balance, even though it was a tough call because Mo’s a top, top player. But he was really suffering,” Potter said.

Kudus, now in his second season with West Ham, has faced challenges during the 2024/25 campaign. Unlike his impressive debut season, the 24-year-old has struggled for form, managing just three goals in 16 Premier League appearances.

  • World’s best: Lamine Yamal ranks second after Messi – Gavi

World’s best: Lamine Yamal ranks second after Messi – Gavi

Barcelona midfielder Gavi has hailed Lamine Yamal as the best player in the world after Lionel Messi, following the teenager’s outstanding performance in the 5-1 Copa del Rey victory against Real Betis on Wednesday.

Yamal was unstoppable, scoring one goal, assisting two others, and having another ruled out for offside. His efforts helped Barcelona secure a spot in Monday’s quarterfinal draw.

At just 17 years old, Yamal has already scored nine goals and provided 13 assists in 24 matches this season, cementing his status as one of football’s brightest talents.

“Yes, he is,” Gavi told reporters when asked if Yamal is already the best player in the game. “Well, after Lionel Messi, he’s the best.”

Yamal, who helped Spain win the European Championship last summer, had an impressive season last year, finishing eighth in the Ballon d’Or rankings.

He also won the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy award, both recognizing the best young player in the world.

The young star has cemented his place in Barcelona’s first team, making over 70 appearances so far. On Wednesday night, he was a constant threat to Betis.

After Gavi scored the opening goal, Yamal delivered a stunning lobbed pass to set up Jules Koundé for Barcelona’s second goal. Yamal created another chance for Koundé, but the goal was disallowed following a lengthy VAR review for offside.

Later in the match, Yamal thought he had scored Barcelona’s third, but VAR ruled it out for offside once again. However, he showcased his brilliance with a solo run from his own box, leading to Raphinha’s goal.

Substitute Ferran Torres added a fourth goal before Yamal finally found the net, finishing confidently after receiving a pass from Fermín López. Vitor Roque, on loan from Barcelona to Betis, scored a late penalty for Betis as a consolation.

“You know, Gavi’s very emotional, so I say yes as well,” Barça coach Hansi Flick said in a news conference when asked if he agreed with Gavi’s take on Yamal. “You can see it. I think in great matches you see big talent and he’s showed it many times. He’s on a really good way. But we have to take care about him.”

“I paid Ramsey Noah more than $40,000. There was one guy I wanted to feature but the money he wanted to charge was too much, I couldn’t pay. When I called him, they thought I was a Nigerian so they wanted to charge higher. Even accommodation and feeding are not included in the $40,000 I paid him,” he said.

LilWin also shared the costs involved in promoting the movie and explained the inspiration behind it.

“The promotion I did for that movie is more than one million Ghana cedis. Ghanaians don’t understand promotion… It was because of the promotion that I bought the Benz and it helped me.

“The attention the Benz got me is another reason why the ministers and MPs came to Accra to watch the premiere. I did over twenty billboards and also over four thousand pieces of T-shirts. Just calculate the amount of money I spent on that,” he added.

‘You all should let him be!’ – Showboy descends on Sarkodie’s critics after gari soakings post

Ghanaian socialite Samuel Safo, also known as Showboy, has expressed support for rapper Sarkodie following his recent “Back to Gari Soakings” comment on social media.

In a video posted online, Showboy stated that the “No Sir” hitmaker has every right to share his opinions.

He added that Sarkodie is free to criticize any political party if he feels dissatisfied with their performance.

“Sarkodie is not the only NPP supporter, I am also an NPP guy, so if you want to confront someone, then come and confront all of us… So if he responded to Gari Soakings, so what? Isn’t he a rapper? You all should learn to think.

“If it’s attention you desire, learn how to get it. You can’t be threatening Sarkodie because if something happens to him, the law will take action, and if something happens to him, you will be arrested,” he said.

Showboy further urged people to stop criticising the rapper over a harmless statement.

“I have seen a video circulating on social media where someone is insulting and threatening the rapper. Brother, the laws in the country are in place, and you shouldn’t mess with him because if something happens to him, then you will realize how many people support him.

The same NDC you are opposing will deny any involvement because the political party does not condone violence,” he added.

    Background

Sarkodie has openly criticized the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama in the past.

Between 2013 and 2016, the rapper used his music to express his concerns, with his 2014 song “Inflation” standing out as a clear message of dissatisfaction with Mahama’s administration.

However, during President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, Sarkodie remained silent, even though his fans urged him to speak out.

Seduction; one thing that disturbs me on set – Apostle John Prah opens up on challenges of acting

Ghanaian preacher and Kumawood actor Apostle John Prah has shared the difficulties of balancing his acting career with his spiritual life.

Speaking on Okukuseku the Talk Show with Emelia Brobbey on January 13, 2025, he revealed that he often faces temptations on set because of the nature of some roles he plays.

However, Apostle Prah noted that, despite these challenges, he has found ways to overcome them.

“It’s sometimes scary. One thing that disturbs me on set is being seduced, but I told myself there were crew members in the same room, so there was nothing I could do. It used to disturb me, but I’ve learned to handle it,” he said.

Apostle Prah further stated that when he is given roles that involve physical intimacy, particularly with female actors, he often refuses to participate.

“When I’m given a role where a woman is supposed to touch me, I mostly don’t agree. Some of the ladies are very beautiful and seductive, and it’s hard to resist. Thankfully, the women who play these roles with me are understanding and avoid being too explicit, unlike they would be with a regular actor,” he added.

Apostle Prah shared his experiences with some colleagues, expressing disappointment in people he had helped in the past who did not show gratitude for his support.

“You have to be careful with people, or else they’ll disappoint you. I’ve had experiences where I tried to groom some young people, and they were very wicked.

It’s heartbreaking because I spent time and resources helping them, but they didn’t respect me. Despite these past experiences, I still believe in helping others, but with caution,” he said.

Dancehall artist Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah, has called on Ghana’s President to make changes in the entertainment industry.

He believes that with John Dramani Mahama working to reset the country, it’s also important to reset the entertainment sector.

Shatta Wale feels that young people interested in the industry should understand it’s a business, not just for fun.

He made this known in a letter he wrote to the president via social media. His letter read: “Letter to our new President of Ghana.

I wish our new president John Dramani Mahama would also reform our music system to attract more professionals on radio and television, similar to the appointment of new ministers when they assume power.

“The entertainment industry needs that change. The younger ones coming can’t go through what some of us have been through. My humble wish… just for the next generations to come and see this music business as a job and not just fun.”

That was pretense at C Confion’s funeral – Kwaku Manu on ‘seeming’ unity among Kumawood stars

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has highlighted some problems facing the movie industry, particularly the lack of unity among actors.

His remarks came after the funeral of popular actor and skit maker C Confion, who passed away in December 2024.

The funeral, held on January 11, attracted many celebrities and public figures, who were seen mingling and interacting, giving fans the impression that harmony had been restored within the industry.

However, in an interview on Fakye Showbiz, Kwaku Manu dismissed this idea, stating that the unity seen at the funeral was only for show and that underlying issues still persist in the industry.

“We are workers, not friends. When we are done working, each and everyone has his or her friend. We are not normally united like this.

You are only seeing us smiling and interacting with each other like this because someone is dead,” he said.

Kwaku Manu revealed that he was sidelined for four years because of ongoing problems in the movie industry.

He criticized the way finances are handled, pointing out that funds intended for experienced actors are often redirected to newer actors who have recently gained fame.

According to him, this practice undervalues the contributions of veteran actors and negatively impacts their ability to make a living.

“When the industry got Kwaku Manu, they got apostle John Pra and they got Akrobeto. When you feature all these actors, people would want to watch so it would favour the producers.

“But what they do is that the money they are supposed to use to pay the big actors, they would rather share it among the new famed actors,” he claimed.

Let your ‘good talk’ win you an election – A Plus to critics

Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has responded to critics who claim he talks too much since becoming an MP.

In a video shared on social media on January 13, 2025, A Plus dismissed what he called unsolicited advice. He challenged those critics, saying that if they believe they are better communicators, they should focus on winning an election themselves.

“Don’t sit somewhere and say, ‘A Plus, I want to give you some advice. Since you’ve become an MP, you should learn how to talk to people.’ Herh! If you think you know how to talk and haven’t won an election, go and win one,” he said.

Before being sworn in as an MP, A Plus frequently shared his thoughts on social media about his decision to align with either the NDC or NPP in Parliament.

He revealed that he had given one of the major political parties specific conditions, warning that if they didn’t meet them, he wouldn’t join their caucus.

Believing that both parties needed his support to strengthen their numbers in Parliament, A Plus claimed to have met with NDC leaders and the NPP’s Kennedy Agyapong as they tried to persuade him to take their side.

However, his constant remarks drew criticism from netizens, who felt he was overhyping himself and exaggerating his importance at the time.

Faced with mounting criticism, A Plus responded through a series of live videos on social media, a habit he was known for before becoming an MP.

In his latest video, he mentioned receiving advice from Shatta Wale that contributed to his parliamentary victory, along with other remarks that many netizens found unnecessary.

Critics have since argued that being an MP requires a sense of decorum and a more composed demeanor. They believe A Plus should leave behind his old ways of addressing irrelevant topics and engaging in social media arguments.

Don’t sack Akwasi Agyeman as GTA head – Austine Woode to Mahama

UK-based Ghanaian broadcaster Austine Woode has urged President John Mahama to keep Akwasi Agyeman as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Austine highlighted Akwasi Agyeman’s impressive achievements during his time at the GTA under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, stressing that he should continue his good work.

While Austine acknowledged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) may have other capable candidates for the role, he believed it would be a mistake to overlook Akwasi Agyeman’s skills and experience simply because of political differences.

“I think President Mahama should maintain the current GTA head Kwasi Agyeman.

If you check the area of tourism and the ideologies of both political parties, they don’t differ so there will be a case of ideology. It will not be case of Free SHS when one says let us do it now, another says let’s do it later. There is nothing like that,” he noted.

According to him, Akwasi Agyeman has demonstrated that he loves the tourism industry more than partisan politics.

“I have encountered him and I see his impact in the industry. I wish we will get to a point in our politics where positions like tourism will not be limited to partisanship.

We should be heading towards there. I am not saying there are not good people in the NDC, but for continuity,” he noted.

Some industry players have proposed names like Abeiku Santana, Gideon Areequaye, Kojo Bonsu, Francis Doku, and Jesse Agyepong for consideration.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is tasked with overseeing and regulating the tourism sector. It also serves as the organization responsible for promoting and managing tourism within Ghana and on the global stage.

Mahama seperates sports ministry from youth ministry; here’s why

President John Dramani Mahama has decided to split the Ministry of Youth and Sports to address sports and youth issues separately.

During his 2024 election campaign, Mahama pointed out that combining the two areas under one ministry has often left the youth neglected, limiting the ministry’s effectiveness.

He explained that creating a separate ministry for the youth would allow more focus on their needs and ensure attention across all sectors of the economy to benefit them.

Mahama highlighted that this move would help introduce strategies to create more job opportunities for the youth and improve their livelihoods.

“We’re going to separate youth from sports because it’s a youth and sports ministry. However, over the years, the focus has been solely on sports, and even then, only on the Black Stars.

“My vision for this ministry is to mainstream youth interests in all sectors of the economy. It will focus on mainstreaming youth interests and concentrate on rolling out strategies to create jobs for young people,” he said.

Mahama fulfilled his promise by separating the ministry into the Youth Development and Empowerment Ministry and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

About the separation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the separation of the Youth and Sports Ministry as part of efforts to reduce the number of ministries in his government.

In a directive issued on January 11, 2024, the Mahama-led administration split the ministry into two separate entities: the Youth Development and Empowerment Ministry and the Sports and Recreation Ministry.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has been a combined institution since 1981, originally called the PNDC Secretary for Youth and Sports. It became a full ministry in 1993 when Ghana returned to constitutional rule under the late President Jerry John Rawlings.

The late Enoch Teye Mensah, a former Member of Parliament, was the first to serve as Minister for Youth and Sports.

Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey faced boos and jeers during Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Manchester United on Sunday, January 12, 2024.

Partey came on as a substitute for Dutch defender Jurrien Timber during extra time in the third round of the FA Cup. However, Manchester United fans in the away section of the Emirates Stadium greeted his every touch with disapproval.

Despite the hostility, Partey stayed focused and successfully scored his penalty during the shootout for Arsenal.

Earlier in the match, Bruno Fernandes gave Manchester United the lead with a brilliant goal after Alejandro Garnacho took advantage of a slip by Gabriel Magalhães to set him up.

United’s momentum was disrupted in the 61st minute when Diego Dalot was sent off for a dangerous foul, leaving the team with 10 players.

Arsenal seized the opportunity and applied intense pressure, eventually finding an equalizer through defender Gabriel.

Despite having the numerical advantage, Arsenal failed to secure a winner, and the game ended 1-1 after extra time.

In the penalty shootout, Kai Havertz missed a crucial penalty, allowing Manchester United to win 5-4 and progress to the fourth round of the competition.

Events consultant and media personality George Quaye believes Ablah Dzifa Gomashie is well-suited to excel at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, in John Dramani Mahama’s second term, cannot afford to waste time.

Speaking on Accra-based United Showbiz, George Quaye explained that President Mahama is prioritizing experience in choosing ministers and does not have the luxury to experiment with new appointees at this stage.

“If there is any government that doesn’t have time, it is this government. This is not the time to try people. So if you look at the trend, the man is using a lot of wisdom to select people. The man is looking at experience.

“This is an industry that says it wants one of us and we have one of us in there already who, beyond everything else, has the experience. She does not have only experience in arts but also in tourism,” he said on Accra-based United Television.

He further added, “Her experience makes her the best fit for handling the ministry. Mahama cannot follow the sentiments of the people in the industry; then you’ll choose people they want.

But for a party that does not have time, you need someone who has been there before, who has learnt from their experience, so that they are supported by the people who are around.”

Kyle Walker wants to leave Mana City; he wants to options abroad – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has expressed his desire to leave the club this month and pursue opportunities abroad as his career approaches its later stages.

Walker, 34, has 18 months remaining on his contract, which he extended in the summer of 2023 with a three-year deal. At that time, Bayern Munich showed interest in signing him, but negotiations with City fell through.

Recently, Walker has struggled for playing time, with his last start being in the 2-1 loss against Manchester United on December 15. He wasn’t even included in the squad for City’s 8-0 FA Cup victory over Salford City on Saturday, where Matheus Nunes filled in at right-back.

Guardiola explained the situation, revealing that Walker has requested a transfer during the January window to play abroad. He added that the England international may not currently be in the right mental state to contribute effectively to the team.

“Two days ago Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad at the end of his career,” explained Guardiola in his post-match press conference following the Salford win.

“He asked two years ago after the treble, Bayern wanted him but the offer was not good enough and the club asked him how important was this? We cannot understand the success the club has had in these years without Kyle. It’s impossible – he’s been our right-back, giving us something we didn’t have.

“But now, in his mind, he would like to explore going to another country to play his last years for many reasons. For that reason, I prefer to play other players whose mind is still here.”

There is reported interest in Walker from Saudi Arabia and he has now taken matters into his own hands, approaching Man City directly to request a transfer this month.

“He went to Txiki [Man City director of football Txiki Begiristain] and I am pretty convinced that there’s no one in our job who can perform when they don’t want to be where they are,” Guardiola explained.

GFA mulls appointment of technical director to assist Otto Addo

Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly considering hiring a technical director to assist Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.

This comes as the 47-year-old coach’s future hangs in the balance following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

For the first time in 20 years, the four-time African champions missed out on Africa’s biggest football tournament after finishing last in Group F. They managed only three points from six games, with three draws and three losses.

The disappointing performance has put the Ghana Football Association (GFA) under heavy pressure to review its coaching setup. Otto Addo, who signed a three-year contract in March 2024 with an option for a two-year extension, is now facing calls for his dismissal.

In response, the GFA held a long meeting with Addo and his technical team, announcing that further discussions with stakeholders would decide his future.

Meanwhile, reports suggest the GFA is considering hiring a technical director to work alongside Addo as the team prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

If this plan goes through, Addo is likely to remain as head coach, but changes in the backroom staff are expected.

Additionally, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has revealed that Otto Addo has not been paid for four months.

“It is true we owe Otto Addo. As of the last update from the Sports Ministry, there are salary arrears, which unfortunately is not a new issue,” Twum said in an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports.

“We have held several meetings with the Ministry about the payments. Otto Addo understands the challenges, and we are working to resolve the issue.”

Following the disappointing AFCON qualifiers, the Black Stars will aim to bounce back with a stronger performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, starting with matches against Chad and Madagascar in March.

Sulley Muntari and Menaye’s marriage “not genuine” – Charlie Dior

Renowned Ghanaian fashion stylist Charlie Dior has shared his thoughts on the marriage of former Black Stars player Sulley Muntari and model Menaye Donkor, questioning its authenticity.

According to Dior, the couple’s decision to keep their relationship private and away from public scrutiny raises doubts. He argued that their unwillingness to share details about their marriage gives the impression of perfection, which he believes might not reflect reality.

“We hear street talk about them. The fact that they don’t talk about it or put it out there, for me, that’s not genuine. They are portraying everything as perfect at home, which I don’t think is true,” he said on GhOne TV.

Charlie argued that celebrity couples should be more public due to their status in society.

“We know there’s pressure on celebrity marriages from the public and family. But if you have that celebrity status, you owe us something. You owe us some explanation in some way.”

Charlie Dior compared Sulley and Menaye’s marriage to Ghanaian musician Praye TiaTia and his wife, Selly Galley, calling them his power couple.

“My power couple would be Selly Galley and Praye Tiatia. I follow them on Instagram, and they seem more relatable than Sulley Muntari and Menaye.”

“Because they (Praye and Selly Galley) make it more relatable. I follow them on Instagram, and they share their struggles with us. When she was expecting, she shared her journey, which feels more genuine,” he shared.

Sulley Muntari and his wife, Menaye Donkor, have been married since 2010 and have two children.

The couple has maintained a low profile, with their last public appearance taking place in 2021.
