Tailor in police grips for allegedly shaving apprentice’s private part forcibly in Kadjebi

In a disturbing incident, a tailor in Kadjebi, Oti Region, has been apprehended by the Kadjebi Police for forcibly shaving the private parts of Bright Abusah, a 19-year-old electrical apprentice.

Abusah recounted his ordeal to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), stating that on Sunday, January 21, around 8 pm, the accused invited him to his workshop at Kadjebi Cocoa Market.

Once there, he was locked up, questioned about having a girlfriend, and subjected to the viewing of explicit content on the tailor’s mobile phone.

Under threats of harm, Abusah complied with the accused’s orders to remove his trousers and underpants. The accused then used scissors and a disposable razor blade to forcefully shave Abusah’s genitals.

Following the shaving, the accused attempted to stimulate him further with ointment, which Abusah rejected.

Abusah managed to escape when the accused momentarily excused himself, allowing him to run to Menuso, a nearby farming community, and report the incident to his grandfather, Simon Tetteh Abusah.

His grandfather accompanied him to the Kadjebi Police station on Monday, January 22, where they filed a formal complaint, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The accused later told the Ghana News Agency that, “in life, certain things must happen to a man for him to learn some lessons.”

The father of a three-month-old baby named Nsoroma, who needed assistance for the removal of a lump on her back present since birth, is urgently seeking support.

Following multiple visits to a hospital in the Eastern Region, the baby was transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where a scan revealed excess fluid in her head.

The necessary surgery was estimated to cost GH¢15,000. Despite several attempts to secure this amount and save Nsoroma’s life, the family was unable to gather the required funds, leading to the unfortunate demise of the baby.

Her devastated father, Kwadjo Misah, said, “My world has come to an end. I feel shattered and guilty for not being able to save my baby’s life due to financial constraints.”

In order to receive some much-needed relief, he is pleading with the public to help him pay the GH¢8000 hospital bill he incurred during those trying times.

It was a lie, I never turned into a snake – Obinim confesses

The founder of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has revealed that he does not possess supernatural abilities to transform into an animal.

He admitted that his previous claims of such powers were merely acts of bravado aimed at impressing his followers.

Years ago, Bishop Obinim gained notoriety for asserting that he could turn into a snake or a tiger and appear in people’s dreams, earning him a demigod status among his followers.

However, in a TikTok video, the religious leader apologized to the public, acknowledging that his previous statements and actions were driven by circumstances beyond his control and now considers them as vanity.

“I was saying a lot of things that were beyond me. People are asking me to turn into a snake or a tiger. How can I do that? Am I a vampire or an animal? How can someone who has a human body with a wife and children do this?.

  • Ex-presidents must wait for courtesy calls while at home, not fight current leaders – Malema

Ex-presidents must wait for courtesy calls while at home, not fight current leaders – Malema

Commander-In-Chief of South Africa’s far-left political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Mr. Julius Malema, expressed the need for Africa’s democracy to mature to a point where former presidents refrain from actively opposing their successors.

He shared this perspective during a public dialogue organized in Accra by the Ghanaian socialist pressure group AriseGhana on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

“You have to ensure that democracy matures in such a manner in Africa, where the previous president does not make it his business to fight the current president, you must allow the new to lead with all their force because you were the same, it doesn’t mean you are perfect”.

“No African leader, who is on retirement, should lead from the grave. They must all be like all other progressive former presidents who are statements at home, waiting for courtesy visits and consultations, and attending to other state functions. Those are the duties of former presidents because Africa must be stable, Africa must go through democracy at all times,” Mr Malema added.

Malema further urged African leaders to refrain from going beyond what is required by the constitution when it comes to imposing themselves on their people.

“We call on all African leaders not to leave an office with a coffin. When the time comes for them to go, they must leave without calling the army to extend their tenure. No one is born a leader, and no one is a traditional leader in a political office. If you want to be a traditional leader, go and fight in your tribe for those type of issues, we don’t subscribe to people who want to leave a political office with a coffin,” he added.

“We will still give you a state funeral because you are a former President, we will still pay you pensions and give you protection and take care of you as long as you respect those who came after you”, Mr Malema noted.

However, he cautioned the younger generation against abusing their power to remove the elder generation from positions of leadership.

“We, as a younger generation of Africa, we must not seek to get rid of the old in a desperate manner to a point where we destroy institutional memory,” he said.

Rather, “We must always make sure that the old co-exist with the young but the old must be prepared to pass the wisdom to the young ones. Because, at some point, the old must die for the new to emerge and it is not me calling for the killing of the elderly African leaders, nature dictates that the old at some point must die for the new to emerge”.

“But this new must be prepared to learn from the old,” Mr Malema clarified.

For example, he said: “I was in Liberia yesterday and I saw the inauguration of an old president, I got so worried but when I saw Vice President, I left Liberia in a very comfortable way, because I saw a generational mix, where the old and the young co-exist in one office and I hope the Vice President will not be suffocated because the president must know that with all his experience and advanced age, he has a duty to pass the baton to the younger generation”.

“I withdrew for the national interest of the party and personal interest” – OB Amoah

Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South, Osei Bonsu Amoah, popularly known as OB Amoah, has officially declared his withdrawal from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) forthcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for January 27, 2024.

In addition to being an MP, OB Amoah also holds the position of Chairman of the Research Committee of the Party. Citing personal reasons, he emphasized that his decision to step back from the parliamentary race is in the best interest of the party.

The MP revealed that his choice not to seek re-election, announced just days before the scheduled election, was the outcome of consultations with the party’s leadership.

“I have been in Parliament for four terms and have also served in the executive, gathering a lot of experience along the way. I am still active in the party.

“I withdrew for the national interest of the party and personal interest,” citinewroomm.com quoted him to have said in an interview.

Amoah has withdrawn from the race, but he has still urged Akuapem South delegates to support the eventual victor so that the party keeps the seat and to ensure that the elections are peaceful.

“I meet delegates and speak to them every time, and the most critical thing is on Saturday, we have peaceful elections and rally behind the winner to ensure that we retain the seat,” he added.

Following OB Amoah’s withdrawal, Eric Apeadu Yeboah, Kwame Ofori Gyawu, and Samuel Annor Mensah are now in the running for the position.

Wontumi media expresses regret to Manhyia Palace for Maurice Ampaw’s inappropriate remarks

In anticipation of complying with a summons from the Kumasi Traditional Council regarding a contentious broadcast, the leadership of Wontumi Multimedia has extended a sincere apology to traditional authorities in the Ashanti Region.

The apology pertains to the recent behavior of lawyer Maurice Ampaw during an episode of his Mmra Ne Abrabo Mu Nsem program aired on Wontumi TV.

In an official statement signed by the General Manager of the media organization, the management condemned Maurice Ampaw’s remarks, characterizing them as disorderly and wholly unacceptable.

“The Management of Wontumi Multimedia wishes to render its unqualified and unreserved apology to the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) and Nananom for the unruly behaviour exhibited by one of our hosts at Wontumi Television by name Lawyer Maurice Ampaw.

“Management understands the importance of upholding respect and dignity, especially when it comes to matters involving customs and traditions, as well as esteemed figures like yourselves.

“We recognize that the conduct displayed by Lawyer Maurice Ampaw through our medium Wontumi Television, was completely unacceptable and does not reflect the values and standards of our organization,” the statement said.

The management stated that it had ordered the program to be suspended indefinitely until the issue was resolved, even though it acknowledged that actions were being taken to correct the situation.

“We must bring to the notice of our respected Nananom that management had no foreknowledge of the content of the programme on the said night, neither does it control over the minute details of the programme. Lawyer Maurice Ampaw unilaterally produced his show and determined issues to be discussed.

“Notwithstanding that, management does not intend to absorb itself of any blame and therefore accept full responsibility for any mishap,” the statement added.

The Kumasi Traditional Council recently issued a summons to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman and owner of Wontumi Multimedia. The summons was in response to reports of his alleged challenge to the authority of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during a party event.

During his appearance before the Council last week, the leadership of the NPP, led by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah, requested time for Wontumi to make his appearance, citing health reasons. However, the Council rejected this justification and ordered the party to produce Wontumi within seven days.

Additionally, the Council demanded the presence of Maurice Ampaw and the management of Wontumi Media regarding the lawyer’s statements on the matter involving their owner.

On January 22, 2023, the Kumasi Traditional Council convened to address an alleged case of severe disrespect towards the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The accused party in this matter was Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, who holds the position of Ashanti Regional Chairman within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Chairman Wontumi faced accusations of threatening to challenge Otumfuo’s authority.

During the session, the NPP’s leadership, led by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah, requested a two-week extension from the meeting date for Chairman Wontumi to appear, citing health reasons.

However, the Council, presided over by the Bantamahene, rejected the justification after various chiefs had expressed their perspectives on the issue. The Council strongly rebuked Chairman Wontumi, his media outlet, and the NPP.

Ultimately, the Council mandated the party to produce Chairman Wontumi within seven days.

Additionally, the Council called for the presence of Maurice Ampaw and the management of Wontumi Media regarding the lawyer’s statements concerning the matter involving their owner.

Maurice Ampaw had previously criticized the chiefs, referring to them as rogue elements while asserting that they were attempting to censure Wontumi, the station’s owner. The full session of the Council meeting can be viewed below.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communication and Digitalization, has addressed speculations surrounding her potential selection as the running mate for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 elections.

In an interview on UTV, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West clarified that, despite her close relationship with the Vice President, who also serves as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), they have not had discussions about her being offered such a position.

“We talk a lot but we haven’t talked about running mate matters because we have a lot of work to do. As for me, I would like us to leave him (Dr Bawumia) to take his time to look for the one that he would want to become his running mate.

“…so far, we have been discussing our digital agenda matters and things that we are supposed to do as a matter of urgency…and my focus is also on my parliamentary elections,” she said.

Ursula Owusu reaffirmed her dedication to serving her country in all capacities and said she would be willing to accept any position that would advance the development of her country.

She added “God’s time is the best and for me, I am a servant, so, in whichever capacity God would say I should serve I will do that

Nana Yaa Brefo descends on Kurt Okraku over Chris Hughton’s dismissal

Outspoken media personality, Nana Yaa Brefo, has launched a scathing attack on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in the wake of the dismissal of Black Stars’ head coach, Chris Hughton, due to the team’s disappointing performance at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Expressing her discontent, Nana Yaa Brefo blamed Kurt Okraku, the GFA boss, for what she perceives as a dismal tenure in office, particularly citing the unsatisfactory results of various national teams in competitions that have left many Ghanaians frustrated.

During an Instagram live session monitored by GhanaWeb, Nana Yaa Brefo asserted that the decision to sack Chris Hughton wasn’t unexpected, claiming that such an action was contemplated before the commencement of AFCON.

She criticized Kurt Okraku, emphasizing his lack of a commendable track record during his tenure as the GFA boss.

“Let’s exercise our body for us to get the energy to support some nonsense team and players. We are saying bring back the love, I heard Chris Hughton has been sacked by the GFA. Is this news that everybody is talking about? They’ve sacked him and so what? The FA wanted to sack him before the AFCON so this is nothing new.

“What is the FA doing about the whole situation? I have been speaking about the FA boss [Kurt Okraku] who has no better record to show in his tenure in office apart from Women’s football of which they are not even paying them. At least you should do better than your predecessor but this is different,” she fumed.

On its official website, the GFA declared that Chris Hughton had been removed from his position as head coach of the Black Stars and that the entire technical staff had also been dissolved.

This comes after the Ghanaian Black Stars, who finished third in Group C with two points, were unable to advance past the group stage of the AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.

Following the disappointment, Ghanaians are now filled with rage and fury due to the team’s appalling performance.

Senior police officer Yakubu Ayamga challenges media reports surrounding his arrest

In response to recent online publications about his arrest during Supreme Court proceedings in November 2023, Assistant Commissioner of Police and lawyer Akolgo Yakubu Ayamga issued a detailed rejoinder.

Ayamga’s account challenges the accuracy of media reports surrounding his arrest and provides nuanced details.

The incident occurred on November 14, 2023, following Ayamga’s impassioned presentation before the Supreme Court.

According to Ayamga, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo interrupted him, stating he was shouting, leading to an order to resume his seat. Disagreement escalated after offensive remarks from the Chief Justice, resulting in Ayamga’s arrest.

In his rejoinder, Ayamga emphasizes that the arrest was not related to his disagreement with the Court’s judgment, as initially reported. He argues that a respectful disagreement with a judge’s off-judgment remark should not lead to arrest.

Ayamga claims his arrest was influenced by the Chief Justice‘s rush of anger, prejudice, and malice, constituting an abuse of judicial power.

“Presumptions aside, a respectful and fearless disagreement with off judgment remark of a judge is not a criminal offence to trigger arrest and detention. The arrest was unconscionable, irrational, unfair and without due process from the perspective of a reasonable, fair-minded and informed independent person.

“The arrest was merely influenced by a rush of anger, prejudice and malice aforethought which constitute impropriety or abuse of prestige judicial power by the Chief Justice,” the prosecutor stated in his rejoinder.

In response to the alleged abuse of power, Ayamga has filed a complaint with the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the incident and the purported cover-up by public officers.

    Read the rejoinder below:

Which people will benefit from your development if you kill them? – Rev. Opuni Frimpong to politicians who kill to power

Executive Director of the Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, has raised a query directed at politicians who actively engage in actions resulting in the loss of lives merely for the sake of power.

In his view, it is senseless to harm the very individuals whom these politicians are meant to serve once in power.

Consequently, he stressed the importance of politicians adopting a mindset centered on serving the people rather than inflicting harm upon them.

“When you become a Member of Parliament or president, you come in with the intention to serve. Why should your decision to lead and develop us result in the death of people. After killing them, which people will benefit from your development, if they are all dead?” he questioned politicians during an interview on Accra-based Adom FM

Also, Dr Frimpong asserted that Akufo Addo’s remarks concerning development in Ekumfi do not elevate Mahama to an exceptional status.

Akufo Addo had previously stated that he withheld development in Ekumfi due to constituents’ failure to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Ato Cudjoe.

The man of God expressed disappointment in the president’s statement, emphasizing that the president’s candor about the motive is troubling.

However, he also pointed out that this revelation does not cast Mahama in a favorable light.

“I have also listened. Especially where he said, “I want to be honest with you”… to be honest with you(I am actually saying the truth). but if you dont take care you will think it was just Akufo-Addo’s words but was Mahama any different?, he asked.

In line with the Joint WB-IMF Debt Sustainability Framework, this agreement is a significant step toward the nation’s return to debt sustainability.

“This agreement will help unlock financial support by international financial institutions, including a US$300million budget support operation supported by IDA that will be considered by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors next week. This will help Ghana in its recovery, attracting investments and restoring a sustainable growth path,” said Ousmane Diagana, World Bank Vice President for Western and Central Africa.

The Resilient Recovery Development Policy Operation marks the initial phase of a trilogy, amounting to US$900 million. It is a pivotal component of the World Bank’s extensive involvement, aiding crisis response and fostering resilience in Ghana.

Ghanaians will not be burned by 15% VAT on electricity – Ken Ofori-Atta

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has reiterated that the 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) on electricity consumption, particularly for lifeline consumers, will not pose a significant burden.

He emphasized that the additional cost for lifeline consumers, estimated at GHS100 annually, is manageable for the average Ghanaian.

In an interview with Joy FM, the Finance Minister addressed concerns about the impact of the VAT on electricity, emphasizing the government’s objective to generate revenue for essential services and infrastructure development.

The Minister initially announced the 15% VAT during the 2024 budget presentation, assuring Ghanaians that the impact on lifeline consumers would be minimal.

However, Elikplim Apetorgbor, CEO of Independent Power Producers (IPPs), expressed opposing views, urging policymakers to assess the broader economic consequences.

Apetorgbor outlined potential challenges, including reduced demand, increased compensation for idle capacity, impact on economic growth, energy poverty, investment disincentives, financial stress on utilities, grid instability, regulatory and political challenges, quality of service issues, barriers to electrification efforts, and inflationary pressure.

He further highlighted the implications for the West Africa Power Pool (WAPP) or Regional Electricity Market (REM), emphasizing the potential negative impact on Ghana’s competitiveness, cross-border energy trade appeal, regional integration efforts, and achieving economies of scale.

Understanding these implications is deemed crucial for balancing domestic fiscal needs with regional energy integration and competitiveness. The implementation of VAT on electricity consumption in Ghana could have far-reaching consequences that extend beyond domestic policy considerations.

Social media user issues apology to Samini following threats

Musician Samini has expressed his displeasure after an individual on X (formerly Twitter) labeled him as “foolish” for sharing his grievances regarding the Ghana vs Mozambique AFCON match.

Samini had used his platform to voice disappointment and criticize certain players following the Black Stars’ draw, which left Ghana’s fate in the tournament uncertain.

However, a user on X took issue with Samini’s approach, accusing him of acting like a know-it-all.

Surprised by the insult, Samini questioned why the individual resorted to name-calling when he was simply expressing concerns about the performance of “our” Black Stars as a Ghanaian.

He emphasized that while opinions are welcome, there was no need for insults, tribal references, or an air of invincibility.

“I’ll find you, I promise,” the ‘My Own’ hitmaker wrote.

The young man, however, seemed unaffected by the musician and carried on mocking him while expressing his hatred for Samini.

In turn, Samini wrote, “lol. Continue with the insults young man. You hate me and that’s on you. Sorry. But for saying all these prepare to say it to me in my face if we ever cross paths lol. I only expressed myself sentiments. You could do sake without insults. You chose your route you take it bro. Peace.”

After that, the X user posted a screenshot of a conversion in which Samini pledged to locate him.

Even though the young man appeared comfortable approaching Samini, he later sent Samini a direct message in which he apologized for his actions, asked for forgiveness, and explained that they were the result of “frustrations.”

“I don’t know how to say it, but please I’m begging you in the name of Allah, please forgive me. Please I am sorry for that. I am nobody to speak to you in such way, so please don’t follow the anger and hurt me,” the social media user wrote.

Samini pardoned the young man who had pushed him to become a better person.

Two Nigerian men, William Ovie Opia and Johnbull Asbor, have been arrested in connection with the crime. While the police have not yet charged them, they sought permission to keep the suspects in custody until January 31 to continue their investigations, a request granted by a magistrate.

The suspects were apprehended in Ndenderu, a town near Nairobi, and the police recovered a head, believed to be Ms. Waeni’s, along with her phone and some missing items near a dam in the vicinity.

Items including a butcher’s knife and a small axe, suspected to have been used in the killing, were seized from the suspects’ apartment.

One suspect, Mr. Opia, claimed to have bought the axe online for self-defense.

However, the shocking details of the crime and the demand for a ransom even after Ms. Waeni’s death have ignited calls for action against femicide and violence against women in Kenya.

As the investigations continue, human rights and feminist groups are planning countrywide demonstrations to protest the surge in violent killings of women.

A survey conducted in 2022 indicated that at least 34% of women in Kenya have experienced physical violence at some point in their lives.

  • Debris, aquatic weeds cause water shortage after Akosombo dam spillage

Debris, aquatic weeds cause water shortage after Akosombo dam spillage

The recent water shortage in parts of the Greater Accra and the Central Region is being attributed to choked pipes caused by debris from the Akosombo dam spillage and deteriorated pipelines, according to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

Various areas in Accra and the Central region have faced challenges with water supply, prompting residents to seek alternative sources.

The Communications Manager for GWCL, Stanley Martey, explained on JoyNews’ AM Show that the shutdown of the Kpong plant was necessary to clear the debris.

“What happened was that after the spillage from the Akosombo pipeline, a lot of debris and aquatic weeds were washed from upstream to downstream and our intake point is downstream the Akosombo Dam, and the force to which the pumps abstract the water into the treatment plant abstracted a lot of debris so the whole line was chocked and as a result. We were not able to abstract enough water for treatment,” he said.

He emphasized that due to the inability to manually remove the debris, the only viable solution was to shut down the plant. Additionally, the shutdown facilitated maintenance activities at the Weija plant.

He assured that all water treatment plants operated by the company are currently functioning at full capacity, ensuring a guarantee of continuous water supply, particularly as the dry season approaches.

“Thankfully we are operating full capacity in Kpong and Weija… We are hopeful that by this weekend, the system should stabilise, the system should be fine from today or tomorrow so by weekend, we should see that stability after a full rationing programme,” he assured.

  • Ghana cedi loses 2.2% in value to dollar in January 2024

The Ghanaian cedi has depreciated by 2.2% against the US dollar since January 2024, despite the approval of the first review of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program by the Board on January 19, 2023.

Last week, the local currency faced challenges against major trading currencies due to a stronger US dollar, even with foreign exchange liquidity injection.

The US dollar index closed 100 basis points stronger at 103.24 after robust US economic data suggested a cautious approach from the Federal Reserve in cutting policy rates.

Despite the Bank of Ghana’s $11.6 million spot market support, the cedi ended the week 1.60% weaker at a mid-rate of GH¢12.53/$ on the retail market. It also experienced a 1.12% and 1.11% week-on-week dip against the pound and the euro, respectively, on the retail market.

Analysts anticipate improved investor sentiment with the expected inflow of the $600 million bailout package and other budgetary support from the World Bank to mitigate the cedi’s depreciation. Despite ongoing corporate demand, they believe the forex market sentiment will improve as cash inflow from the IMF and World Bank should enhance supply-side intervention and provide near-term support to the cedi.

As of the current week, the cedi has started strong, trading at GH¢12.43 to one US dollar.

In another development, Ghana successfully negotiated terms with bilateral creditors on January 12, 2024, to restructure a $5.4 billion debt with the Official Creditor Committee. The World Bank confirmed that this debt rework has unlocked a release of $300 million in budget support from the International Development Association (IDA), which will be considered by the executive board this week.

  • DKB appeals for a cut in taxes for sponsors of creative arts

DKB appeals for a cut in taxes for sponsors of creative arts

Ghanaian comedian DKB advocates for companies sponsoring cultural and arts activities to receive tax rebates.

Drawing inspiration from some Nigerian states, the comedian suggests that this approach would incentivize greater investment in the showbiz industry.

During an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, DKB highlighted the potential of a policy offering tax holidays to showbiz sponsors as a means to enhance and support the sector.

“It’s a bill I will present to parliament possibly though a very good MP who understand creative arts. A couple of states in Nigeria have this tax rebate concept when your corporate social responsibility does not only involve buying Jollof and giving them o poor people on the streets but also sponsoring creative arts.”

“So you sponsor creative arts, at the end of the year when you are filing your tax returns you get a tax rebate,” he noted.

DKB’s proposal arises amid grievances from individuals in the creative arts industry regarding taxation on their activities.

While acknowledging their responsibility to contribute to the nation’s development through taxes, creatives argue that the challenging conditions in the arts industry make it challenging for them to break even, let alone fulfill tax obligations.

Event organizers, particularly in the arts, face considerable difficulties in securing sponsorships, hindering their ability to execute various programs.

Prominent figures in the creative sector, including comedians OB Amponsah and Lekzy DeComic, along with George Quaye, the team lead for ImageBureau, have urged the government to explore more feasible approaches to include arts-related events in the tax framework.

Handling Shatta Wale is manageable with understanding – Sammy Flex

Shatta Wale’s current manager, Sammy Flex, underscores the importance of maintaining a professional approach and refraining from delving too deeply into the artist’s personal life to nurture mutual respect.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Sammy Flex shared his perspective, mentioning that, “managing Shatta Wale is not that difficult if you understand him. It depends on the individual handling him; you just have to understand him and support his ideas. His private life is not my business, and if there is mutual respect, you can work with him for a very long time.”

Flex emphasized the uniqueness of Shatta Wale’s approach to his career, noting, “You cannot tell someone like Shatta Wale what to do and what not to do. He understands the game and knows what works for him. I just have to support his dream and give suggestions on anything he tends to do. I have known him for a while now, even before I started working with him, and we understand each other.”

Sammy Flex voiced optimism that a scenario akin to Shatta Wale’s previous confrontations with Bullgod and Mr. Logic would not occur when asked if there was any chance of a fallout. Citing Shatta Wale’s composed manner, he expressed confidence in his capacity to manage the man.

“I just hope and pray that it doesn’t come to that. I am the cool type who can handle someone like Shatta Wale. He has had other managers such as Chris Koney, Nana Dope, Willy Wale, Kofi Boat, and there was nothing like that. I believe they had issues, but due to the respect they had for each other, none of what has been happening occurred. I believe his former managers Bullgod and Mr Logic are both extroverts, and with Shatta Wale also being that type, there will always be fireworks,” Sammy Flex affirmed.

Efia Odo names Nana Addo as worst president in Ghana’s history

Ghanaian actress and socialite Efia Odo continues to express her discontent with President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo, particularly since his re-election in 2020.

As a member of the Fix the Country movement, Efia Odo has consistently criticized the President.

In her latest attack, she goes further, labeling President Nana Addo as the worst President in the history of Ghana.

This critique follows the announcement by the IMF that the second tranche of funding has been granted and is set to be released to the country soon.

Efia Odo accuses the President of going against promises made to the Ghanaian people, including the commitment not to seek assistance from the IMF.

Sammy Flex expressed hope that a situation akin to Shatta Wale’s previous conflicts with Bullgod and Mr Logic would not occur when asked about the possibility of a fallout. He expressed assurance that he could manage Shatta Wale by pointing to his composed manner.

Liberia’s new president Joseph Boakai fails to end inauguration speech due to heat exhaustion

Liberia’s President Joseph Boakai, 79, faced health issues during his swearing-in ceremony, requiring assistance away from the podium.

While delivering his inauguration speech, Boakai encountered difficulty after approximately 30 minutes. Failing twice to continue, the ceremony was adjourned amid concerns.

Reports suggest he may have suffered from heat exhaustion, with temperatures exceeding 30°C. Video footage showed attempts to cool him before he was escorted away.

Despite this, Boakai had already been sworn in as Liberia’s oldest-ever president at the Capitol Building in Monrovia. Vice-President Jeremiah Koung addressed guests after Boakai’s departure. Boakai narrowly defeated former football star George Weah in a November run-off election.

The state of Mr. Boakai’s health was a significant concern during the election campaign. Despite assurances to the BBC that he was in good health, he emphasized that “age should be a blessing to this country.”

Before abruptly ending his speech, Mr. Boakai stated, Elections are over; partisanship must give way to the forward march of Liberia.

“I come to rekindle our hopes.” The new president emphasized the need to restore dignity in public service and uphold the rule of law.

Until 2018, Mr. Boakai served as vice-president in the government of Nobel Peace Prize-winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. He contested the presidency under the United Party (UP) banner, securing victory in a run-off election against Mr. Weah by just over 20,000 votes in November.

Mr. Boakai had previously run for the presidency in 2017, losing to Mr. Weah, who went on to become Liberia’s youngest-ever elected president.

  • Emotional qualities every wife should possess

Emotional qualities every wife should possess

This sage marriage counsel came from my mother-in-law years ago, advice I initially brushed aside in my early relationship days. Unaware of its significance as golden guidance for a healthy love life and how to be a good wife, I found myself repeating the same patterns in my second relationship, leading to less-than-ideal outcomes.

In the quest for love, couples thrive on mutual nurturing rather than mothering, a distinction often overlooked. Many mistakenly perceive them as interchangeable, but they are fundamentally different.

Exploring why some individuals, irrespective of gender, tend to adopt a mothering role in their relationships, I have delved into this conundrum over time, largely spurred by introspection into my own strong inclination to mother.

I’ve concluded that my propensity for mothering is rooted in a lack of positive parenting during my childhood. Faced with insufficient nurturing, I externalized my inner child wounds by adopting a caregiving role for various animals, ranging from cats and dogs to goats and chickens.

While there’s nothing inherently wrong with a generous heart, it’s essential to recognize and understand the impulses that drive us into overdrive.

My personal lesson in love revealed that I had mistakenly equated nurturing with mothering when it came to my significant other. Nurturing, as opposed to mothering, is empowering, and here are three reasons why it stands as the most crucial piece of marriage advice.

We see where our partner needs support but do not override their autonomy

For example, you offer to make your partner tea when they are tired or simply to do something nice for them.

Another time, they offer to make you tea, and you accept and don’t resist their offer by saying that you’ll do it (because you feel you can do it better/quicker perhaps or simply out of that mothering habit).

In a good marriage, there is space for kindness and space for support. Learning to step back from our desire to ‘do it all’ is a step toward healthy self-esteem.

Nurturing gives rise to sovereignty for either partner

I don’t think we speak enough about sovereignty in healthy relationships. Too much societal, sugar-coated love indoctrination can make us feel that we should become one.

A more balanced viewpoint is, as the Buddhists say, two flames sharing a path, with room for each to actualize their individuality.

    We create feelings of empowerment

As partners in a marriage, we share responsibilities while sustainably offering ourselves.

Sustainability in love stems from truly knowing our boundaries and our abilities to give ongoingly without burnout.

Meanwhile, there are 3 reasons why mothering your husband or wife invalidates them.

It sends the signal that we are willing to sacrifice ourselves and our needs for their benefit. It not only invalidates their abilities to take care of themselves but screams about our lack of self-worth.

It creates further expectations of continuing the same behavior, setting up a pattern difficult to reverse. Whether we mother out of some kind of guilt or from our unhealed wounds and shadows, the result is the same — habits that lead to exhaustion, resentment, and anger.

Mothering our partner can lead to a loss of respect. Once resentment sets in, we begin to blame the other party for our habit which in effect trained them to expect what we now no longer wish to do. I’m not sure which comes first, the loss of respect for ourselves or our partner, but either way, it makes for a bad relationship.

What is a more sustainable path? It considers self-love as integral to the ‘whole’ of the relationship.

No one person should sacrifice themselves for another nor should they ignore the needs of the other, without being taken advantage of.

To be taken advantage of is to allow it, and the responsibility of whether we are participating in mothering versus nurturing rests with us.

“They took advantage of my good will” is a disempowering statement often cited by serial motherers which shifts their lack of boundaries to our partner.

It’s difficult it is to break such patterns as it takes some honest self-talk to dig deep into that and come up with something that helps us move through it.

Having a conversation with our partner about what’s not working may seem daunting, even impossible.

Begin with an act of self-love. Take a bath, a walk, and make a nourishing meal for yourself. That is always a centering, grounding way to enter any conversation.

Be empowered and glass-filled, open to the possibility that there is a way forward. You may be surprised by the response you receive when you approach your beloved. But it all begins with opening up to what you need, what brings peace to your own heart.

Author Kim McMillen stated, “When I loved myself enough, I began leaving whatever wasn’t healthy.

This meant people, jobs, my own beliefs, and habits — anything that kept me small. My judgment called it disloyal. Now I see it as self-loving.”

I encountered many of my excuses along the way to truly knowing what co-dependence comes from mothering a lover.

And so often, co-dependence, dressed as love, unpacks all those cozy, healthy, fun, romantic ways we used to enjoy before we created a monster of self-sacrifice.

The good news is, that stepping back to see ourselves in a clear light, allowing for self-love, gathering our courage, and opening an honest conversation can bring a much-needed liberation. It can bring balance and equanimity to any relationship.

It all boils down to what kind of expectations we have placed on ourselves and listening to the honest feedback we receive from our bodies and emotions when something doesn’t feel right anymore. What’s left is acting upon that feedback.

Piedmont lithium sells shares in Atlantic to boost finances

US-based Piedmont Lithium has revealed its decision to sell a portion of shares it holds in Aim- and ASX-listed Atlantic Lithium to Assore International, the largest shareholder in Atlantic.

The sale of 24.3 million shares, priced at £0.25 each, will inject approximately $7.8 million into Piedmont Lithium’s funds.

The move, representing 3.8% of Atlantic’s outstanding shares, will lower Piedmont’s shareholding in Atlantic, owner of the Ewoyaa project in Ghana, to around 5.2%.

Assore now holds about 28.4% of Atlantic. The sale has no impact on Piedmont’s existing positions with Atlantic or the Ewoyaa project.

“We remain confident about the potential of Ewoyaa as a logistically advantaged, low-cost producer of spodumene concentrate, but are taking a disciplined approach to deploying capital in the current lithium price environment and positioning ourselves for the recovery we anticipate in the lithium market,” said Phillips.

Piedmont aims to be a leading lithium hydroxide producer in North America. It processes spodumene concentrate from assets it has an economic interest in, including the Carolina Lithium and Tennessee Lithium projects in the US. Piedmont also has partnerships with Sayona Mining in Quebec and with Atlantic Lithium in Ghana.

“Was I complaining?” – Chef Faila asks team members who ended cooking marathon at 227hrs

Weeks following her completion of a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest cooking marathon, Chef Failatu Abdul Razark reveals lingering frustration with her team for prematurely ending the attempt after 227 hours of continuous cooking.

Chef Faila initiated the marathon at midnight on January 1, sustaining non-stop cooking for an impressive nine days and eleven hours.

Despite her initial willingness to continue, her husband, Captain Reginald Adjei, insisted on concluding the activity, despite assurances from doctors.

During a live studio discussion on TV3, Chef Faila conveyed her disappointment with the team’s decision, emphasizing that she never experienced stress and was fully capable of reaching her target of 240 hours

“I’m so mad at my team. They were too oversabi to have been listening to things. Was I complaining?” she jokingly stated.

Yet, Chef Faila conveyed her gratitude towards her husband, describing him as a positive individual who consistently provided encouragement through words of support.

“He was a positive person. Positive words, positivity, how you talk to anyone. That’s who he is. And those words were not geared towards me only, but a constant reminder of the fact that ‘Faila, I asked you why you wanted to do this. You first of all mentioned that you wanted to do this for the people who have been there for you. Why disappoint them now? Do it for them. They are here. Do it’,” she said.

The Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) is urgently requesting an immediate increase in transport fares, citing operational difficulties and the pressing need for a resolution.

The union pointed out the recent surge in spare parts and accessories costs, underscoring the considerable impact on commercial drivers.

In a media interview, Godfred Abulbire, the General Secretary of the GPRTU, emphasized the imperative for an immediate adjustment in transport fares to address the challenges faced by their members.

“Last year [2023], there were serious tax components that had affected all the spare parts, and the cost of spare parts has gone extremely up.

“Just this year, we had a direct correspondence from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) that they have revised all their taxes on commercial cars, taking effect in January.

“And whether we like it or not, all commercial cars will pay,” Mr Abulbire said.

The Parliament recently approved the Emissions Levy Bill, instituting an annual fee of GHC100 for owners of petrol and diesel cars, effective January 2024.

The government aims to promote the use of environmentally friendly energy sources for vehicle power, in line with its commitment to climate-positive actions and carbon offset initiatives.

  • African women who put on wigs have low self esteem – Taiwo Ajai-Lycett

African women who put on wigs have low self esteem – Taiwo Ajai-Lycett

Renowned Nollywood veteran, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, has recently voiced her criticism of African women who choose to wear wigs, viewing it as an expression of low self-esteem.

The accomplished actress, broadcaster, and recipient of the National Honours Award shared her perspective during a recent interview at an event held in Lagos.

Ajai-Lycett passionately expressed her belief that African women are inherently blessed with exquisite natural hair, providing them with the versatility to create a variety of looks. She questioned the trend among some African women to opt for human hair from races with less endowed hair, emphasizing the importance of self-love and appreciation for the innate beauty that God has bestowed upon African women.

The veteran actress firmly stated that the distinctive Africanness of women sets them apart from other races, and choosing wigs and foreign hair could be indicative of a lack of confidence. In her view, embracing one’s natural beauty is a powerful way to celebrate and showcase the unique characteristics that define African women.

“We have to love ourselves as Africans and appreciate our God-given beauty. Our Africanness is what stands us out among all the races of the world. The African woman is beautiful in all ramifications. I believe women who go for wigs and human hair have low self-esteem. Their desire to look Western and foreign is a sign of low self-esteem,” she said.

The vocal actress, who is well-known for her feminist views, emphasized the vital role that women play in society. She underlined the need of treating women with dignity and compassion, pointing out that they are the source of all life and creation and that they are crucial to preserving success and order in many facets of life.

If you want your life to be in order and successful, be kind to the women in your life. It is when the women in your life are happy that you can truly be happy. By women, I mean your mother, your wife, your sister or as the case may be,” she said.

Ajai-Lycett concluded by stressing the importance of ensuring the happiness of the women in one’s life—be it a mother, wife, sister, or any significant female figure—as a key factor for personal happiness and overall life success.

11 tips for achieving a stunning look in your corset dress

Achieving the perfect fit for your corset dress can be challenging, with its appearance varying from one wear to another. Properly fitting into a corset top demands careful preparation and attention to detail.

If you’re gearing up to rock a corset top for a special occasion, consider the following 11 tips to ensure you achieve that flawless fit:

    Measurements:

Take accurate measurements of your bust, waist, and hips. Use a flexible measuring tape and ensure that it is snug but not too tight.

Consider getting a professional fitting or assistance from someone experienced with corsets to ensure accurate measurements.

    Choose the right size:

Select a corset that corresponds to your measurements. Corsets often come in standard sizing or with adjustable lacing to accommodate different body shapes.

    Quality matters:

Invest in a high-quality corset made from durable materials. A well-constructed corset will provide better support and shaping.

    Season your corset:

“Seasoning” refers to breaking in a new corset gradually. Wear it for short periods initially, gradually increasing the time over a few weeks. This allows the corset to mold to your body shape.

    Proper lacing technique:

Learn the proper way to lace your corset. Start from the middle and work your way up and down, tightening a little at a time. Ensure the lacing is even on both sides.

    Adjustable panels:

If your corset has adjustable panels, use them to customize the fit to your body. Tighten or loosen specific areas as needed for comfort and shaping.

    Posture:

Maintain good posture while lacing up your corset. Stand straight with your shoulders back. This helps with the corset’s fit and enhances the overall look.

    Breathing and comfort:

Ensure you can breathe comfortably. Corsets should not be so tight that they restrict your breathing. If you feel lightheaded or uncomfortable, loosen the corset.

    Undergarments:

Wear appropriate undergarments, such as a well-fitting bra and smooth undergarments, to ensure a smooth silhouette under the corset.

    Practice sitting and moving:

Once your corset is properly fitted, practice sitting, standing, and moving to ensure comfort and flexibility. This will also help you get used to the feel of the corset.

    Regular check-ins:

Periodically check the fit of your corset, especially if your body changes. Adjust the lacing as needed to maintain a snug but comfortable fit.

Note that wearing a corset should not be painful. If you experience discomfort, reassess the fit and make adjustments accordingly.

  • Symptoms of syphilis that are less recognized

Symptoms of syphilis that are less recognized

A sexually transmitted infection (STI) called syphilis is brought on by the bacteria Treponema pallidum.

While some syphilis symptoms are well-known, there are other, more subdued symptoms that might not be as well-known.

It’s crucial to remember that syphilis can have a variety of symptoms and can appear at different stages. You may not be as familiar with the following aspects of syphilis symptoms:

Asymptomatic infections: Syphilis doesn’t always present obvious symptoms. Some people with syphilis may have no noticeable symptoms at all, especially in the early stages. Despite being asymptomatic, the infection can still progress to later stages if left untreated.

Latent stage symptoms: After the initial infection, syphilis can enter a latent stage where there are no visible symptoms.

This stage can last for years, and individuals may not realize they have syphilis during this time. However, the infection can still cause damage to internal organs.

Flu-like symptoms: In the early stages, syphilis can present with symptoms that may be mistaken for other illnesses, such as the flu. These symptoms can include fever, fatigue, headache, muscle aches, and sore throat.

Skin rashes: A rash is a common symptom of syphilis, but it may not always appear as the classic chancre (a painless, ulcer-like sore).

Syphilis rashes can vary and may be mistaken for other skin conditions. They can be red or brown and may affect the palms of the hands or soles of the feet.

Hair loss: In the later stages of syphilis, a person may experience hair loss. This can occur in patches and may be mistaken for other causes of hair loss.

Joint pain: Syphilis can cause joint pain and swelling, resembling symptoms of arthritis. This can occur during the later stages of the infection.

It’s crucial to remember that syphilis is a serious medical condition, and early detection and treatment are essential. If you suspect you may have syphilis or any other STI, it is important to seek medical advice promptly.

Testing and diagnosis should be done by healthcare professionals, and appropriate treatment can help manage and cure the infection.

Safe sexual practices and regular STI screenings are key components of preventing and managing syphilis.
