A Ghanaian showbiz personality, Regina Adu Safowaah, has officially announced the date for her upcoming speech-a-thon.
She is making an effort to break the record for the longest speech marathon for 120 hours.
The La Palm Royal Beach Hotel will host the record activity from February 9–14, 2024.
During an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces, she announced that her topics of discussion would revolve around issues affecting Ghana and Africa.
“With the longest speech marathon, your topics are irrelevant to them. But whatever you say must mean something to the public. So I come as a public figure or a lecturer talking about issues of life.
I told them that I will talk about Africa, precisely Ghana. So if I take Greater Accra Region, I am to tell them about their culture, what they are about, what they believe in,” Adu said.

Gonorrhea, an infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, primarily affects the genital and urinary areas.
However, it’s crucial to recognize that not everyone carrying the infection will manifest noticeable symptoms.
In cases where symptoms do emerge, they usually appear between 2 to 14 days post-exposure. Here are some less typical or uncommon symptoms associated with gonorrhea:
1. Rectal symptoms:
· Anal itching
· Discharge from the rectum
· Pain or discomfort during bowel movements
2. Throat symptoms:
· Sore throat
· Redness or inflammation of the throat
· Difficulty swallowing
3. Eye symptoms:
· Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
· Redness, itching, or discharge from the eyes
4. Joint pain:
· Some individuals may experience joint pain or swelling, a condition known as gonococcal arthritis. This is a less common complication of gonorrhea.
5. Skin lesions:
· Skin rashes or lesions may occur in some cases.
It’s important to highlight that gonorrhea can be asymptomatic, meaning individuals may not experience any noticeable symptoms.
Even in the absence of symptoms, untreated gonorrhea can lead to serious complications, such as pelvic inflammatory disease (in women), infertility, and an increased risk of contracting or transmitting HIV.
If you suspect you have been exposed to gonorrhea or are experiencing any symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly.
Gonorrhea is typically diagnosed through laboratory testing, and treatment usually involves antibiotics prescribed by a healthcare professional.
Additionally, it’s important to practice safe sex, including the use of condoms, to reduce the risk of gonorrhea and other STIs.
Regular STI testing is also recommended, especially for individuals who are sexually active or engage in high-risk behaviors.

Ghanaian social media witnessed a surge in trends when Patrick Amenuvor’s commencement of what was initially perceived as a Stand-a-Thon went viral.
In an exclusive interview with renowned Ghanaian blogger and content creator, Zion Felix, Patrick shed light on the inspiration behind his attempt.
Patrick disclosed that the idea stemmed from Afua Asantewaa’s Singathon, a notable feat in the online community.
To add a unique touch, Patrick and his team coined the term “stand-a-thon,” inspired by the absence of such attempts on the Guinness World Record official pages.
However, Patrick faced a hurdle when confronted with the significant cost associated with filing a Guinness World Record application.
This financial barrier left him perplexed, prompting him to embark on the challenge without the official approval of the Guinness World Record board.

In the realm of garment care, our focus on preserving the pristine appearance often tilts towards white clothes, overshadowing the attention black ones equally deserve.
Contrary to popular belief, black clothes are just as delicate as their white counterparts and can lose their vibrancy after a few washes.
To ensure the longevity of black clothes and retain their rich color, it’s crucial to adopt preventive measures against fading. Here are three effective methods to keep your black garments from losing their brilliance:
Sort and wash separately:
Wash your black clothes separately from lighter-colored garments to avoid color bleeding.
Turn your black clothes inside out before washing to minimize friction between the fabric and other items in the laundry.
Use a gentle cycle with cold water to prevent excessive wear on the fabric and to retain color vibrancy.
Use cold water and a mild detergent:
Wash your black clothes in cold water instead of hot water, as hot water can cause colors to bleed and fade more quickly.
Choose a mild detergent specifically designed for dark or black fabrics. These detergents often contain color-protecting agents that help preserve the vibrancy of dark colors.
Avoid using too much detergent, as excess detergent can build up on the fabric and contribute to fading.
Air Dry or dry inside out:
Line drying or air drying your black clothes is one of the best ways to prevent fading. The heat from the dryer can accelerate color fading, so allowing your clothes to air dry will help retain their dark color.
If you prefer using a dryer, tumble dry your black clothes on a low heat setting. Additionally, remove them promptly once the drying cycle is complete to minimize exposure to heat.
If you must use a dryer, turn your black clothes inside out before drying. This can help protect the outer surface and minimize friction against other garments.
You can increase the longevity and color retention of your black clothing by using these suggestions. For more detailed advice, always refer to the care instructions on the label of the clothing and follow them.
It’s critical for safety to prevent electrical fires, which is why it’s critical to make sure your home is free of all fire hazards.
The following advice can be used to reduce the possibility of electrical fires:
1. Regular inspections:
· Conduct regular inspections of your electrical systems by a qualified electrician. This includes checking wiring, outlets, switches, and appliances for signs of wear, damage, or aging.
2. Up-to-date wiring:
· Ensure that your home or building’s wiring is up-to-date and meets current electrical codes. If your wiring is old or damaged, consider rewiring to reduce the risk of electrical fires.
3. Professional installations:
· Hire a licensed electrician for all electrical installations, repairs, and upgrades. Professionals are trained to ensure that installations meet safety standards.
4. Overloaded circuits:
· Avoid overloading circuits by not connecting too many appliances to a single outlet. Use power strips with surge protection for multiple devices and ensure that you do not exceed the recommended load.
5. Proper wattage:
· Use light bulbs and appliances with the correct wattage for the fixtures and outlets. Using bulbs with higher wattage than recommended can cause overheating and increase the risk of fire.
6. Appliance maintenance:
· Regularly inspect and maintain electrical appliances. Replace or repair any damaged cords, plugs, or appliances immediately.
7. Space heaters:
· Use space heaters with caution. Keep them away from flammable materials, don’t leave them unattended, and turn them off when you leave the room or go to sleep.
8. Electrical outlets and switches:
· Replace damaged or worn-out outlets and switches promptly. If you notice sparking or unusual heat, it’s a sign of a problem that needs attention.
· Install AFCIs in the electrical panel to detect and mitigate arcing faults. GFCIs should be installed in areas where water and electricity may come into contact, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
10. Keep flammable materials away:
· Keep flammable materials such as paper, cloth, and curtains away from electrical appliances, cords, and outlets.
11. Electrical panel maintenance:
· Ensure that your electrical panel is in good condition and that circuit breakers are properly sized for the circuits they protect. If you have an older fuse box, consider upgrading to a circuit breaker panel.
12. Educate and train:
· Educate household members or employees about electrical safety. Make sure they know how to use appliances and outlets properly and are aware of potential hazards.
By following these guidelines and staying vigilant about electrical safety, you can significantly reduce the risk of fires caused by electrical faults. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to any issues are key to a safe electrical environment.
If you’re looking to reduce the gas content in beans for a more comfortable dining experience, here are two effective methods to consider:
Baking soda trick: One tried-and-true method to reduce gas in beans involves an overnight soaking process coupled with the addition of baking soda.
Start by placing the beans in a bowl and covering them with water. Allow them to soak overnight to soften the beans and initiate the breakdown of complex sugars.
In the morning, rinse the beans thoroughly and transfer them to a cooking pot. Add fresh water and incorporate 2 teaspoons of baking soda.
As you bring the water to a boil, you’ll notice the formation of foam. When the foam starts to rise, promptly turn off the heat and drain away the foam.
Rinse the beans once again before proceeding with your regular cooking process. This technique helps neutralize some of the compounds responsible for gas production, resulting in beans that are easier on the digestive system.
Fermentation: Soak the beans in water for an extended period, typically 24 hours or more, allowing them to undergo a natural fermentation process.
During this time, beneficial bacteria break down some of the complex sugars in the beans that contribute to gas production.
After the fermentation period, rinse the beans thoroughly before cooking. This method can help improve the digestibility of beans and reduce gas-forming compounds.
Experiment with these techniques to find the approach that works best for you, and remember that the gradual incorporation of beans into your diet can also aid in improving tolerance over time.
In a joyous celebration, a Gambian bride expressed excitement as her husband gifted her D28,000 (equivalent to GHC4000) for passing a virginity test.
The groom, elated to have a pretty and virgin bride, placed the significant sum under her pillow.
According to a relative, “The husband was so happy that he placed a huge sum of D28,000(GHS4k) under her pillow.”
A viral online video captures the ecstatic bride and her family celebrating the successful passage of the virginity test.
Despite her active social media presence, where she often flaunts her body, many doubted her ability to pass the test due to her “bougie” lifestyle.
As per cultural norms, the bride underwent the virginity test to confirm her chastity until marriage.
The video has sparked diverse reactions from netizens, with some congratulating her on passing the test, while others question whether a similar procedure was conducted for the groom.
Insiders within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have disclosed a growing strain in the relationship between Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, particularly concerning the management of the nation’s economy.
The conflict is reportedly centered on economic policies, leading to a strained association between the two high-ranking officials.
Member of Parliament Samuel Atta Akyea, representing Akim Abuakwa South, has hinted at the discord, characterizing their association as “adversary.” President Nana Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Ofori-Atta, often referred to as “Husband and Wife” within the NPP, are seen as key figures in the worsening economic crisis.
Despite their supposed understanding, reports suggest that the Finance Minister does not actively participate in Economic Management Team meetings chaired by Dr Bawumia. The intensifying conflict has left insiders puzzled about the President’s inaction, especially with the approaching general election and the promise to break the 8-year electoral cycle of governing parties.
Internal unrest within the government has been exacerbated by the Finance Minister’s implementation of a 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) on electricity consumers to boost revenue for the COVID-19 recovery program. MP Atta Akyea has urged Ofori-Atta to consider stepping down for his well-being and the government’s benefit, while calls for the Finance Minister’s resignation mount amid the country’s ongoing economic challenges.
Surprisingly, powerful presidential cousin Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko is reportedly advocating for the Finance Minister’s exit from the government. NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has also called on fatigued ministers, CEOs, and MMDCEs to resign instead of undermining the party’s progress.
In December last, he declared “If you are a minister, a CEO or an MMDCE and you have not been reshuffled and you think you are tired resign. Don’t sabotage the party.” he added.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also been outspoken in attributing the current fiscal difficulties to Ofori-Atta.
In a Face to Face interview on CITI TV on Tuesday, January 16, Atta-Akyea emphasized the importance of self-reflection on Ofori-Atta’s part, suggesting that stepping down could bring relief to both him and the NPP.
Expressing concern about the burdens on Ofori-Atta, Atta-Akyea highlighted that the Finance Minister’s resignation could contribute to a more peaceful environment for the government and the nation at large.
Furthermore, Atta Akyea criticized those who blame Vice President Bawumia for the economic challenges, acknowledging the tough economic conditions but refuting the notion that Dr. Bawumia is solely responsible.
He emphasized the Vice President’s challenging role and suggested that attributing economic issues solely to him is unkind and unfair.
“For me, what is very frightening is the fact that you have a whole army of people saying look you’ve had enough…I think that that could be a way for him to relax. Look at all the burdens on one man. So it is his individual decision to make as to whether he should go or he should continue.”
Atta-Akyea went further, stating that Ofori-Atta’s resignation might even contribute to calmer waters for both the government and the nation.
“He should look at himself and look at all the troubles that everybody believes that I mean when he is not there then the nation will have peace, if that is what is the thinking of the people, I will advise myself. He should save himself and save the government and have his peace because he needs it, a man cannot be troubled in the manner in which he has been troubled,” Mr Atta Akyea said.
Mr. Atta Akyea also criticized individuals who hold Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia responsible for the country’s economic challenges.
He acknowledged that the economy is currently not in its best form, describing it as ‘unkind’ and ‘cruel’ for anyone to attribute economic issues in the Akufo-Addo government to Dr. Bawumia.
Mr. Atta Akyea insisted that the vice president was in a very serious adversary role that prevented him from making some sensitive decisions for the country.
The NPP’s General Secretary has also expressed similar concerns about the impact of certain appointees’ actions on the party’s popularity and urged those tired to resign and make way for new faces.
He additionally called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to conduct a reshuffle to bring fresh perspectives, stating that such changes are essential for the NPP to achieve its objectives and retain power in the next election.
“If you are tired, resign and leave so the party can retain power,” Kodua said during the party’s annual Thanksgiving service at its headquarters in Accra.
“If you are a minister, a CEO or an MMDCE and you have not been reshuffled and you think you are tired resign. Don’t sabotage the party,” he added.
He stressed the importance of appointing new faces to propel the NPP towards achieving its objectives, urging the president to consider reshuffling the government for the party’s continued success.
“It is time for some changes in the government, so we get some new faces to continue. We believe that if we get new appointments, we will be able to retain power in the next election,” Kodua added.
Afua Asantewaa has taken her sing-a-thon endeavor beyond borders, even though she has not yet received feedback from Guinness World Records.
The Ghanaian broadcaster, recently appointed as Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador, encountered Akon in Ivory Coast during the ongoing AFCON, where Ghana is scheduled to play tonight.
In a brief exchange, the Senegalese-American music icon expressed astonishment at Afua Asantewaa’s remarkable feat of singing for five consecutive days. Akon promptly introduced Afua to some of his African acquaintances.
“For singing for the longest, you know she sang straight for five days,” excited Akon told his friends. “I am a lover of music and it was a pleasure to have met you @akon @sofitelabidjan,” Afua said in an Instagram post.
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum set out on December 24, 2023, with the goal of breaking the record for the longest singing marathon, which is set to end on December 27, 2023.
The previous record was held by Sunil Waghmare, who sang for 105 hours in 2012.
Afua Asantewaa finished her attempt on December 29, 2023, setting a new record with an astounding 126 hours and 52 minutes.
In response to protests against President Azali Assoumani’s re-election in Comoros, authorities have taken the measure of cutting off internet access. Reports indicate one person killed and six others injured as police confront opposition supporters in Moroni, the capital.
Barricades on several roads and the arrest of an undisclosed number of protesters have contributed to the unrest. To quell the situation, a nighttime curfew has been enforced.
The electoral commission declared on Tuesday that President Assoumani secured a fourth term with 63% of the vote in Sunday’s ballot.
The announcement of President Assoumani’s re-election has sparked violent protests, with opposition parties denouncing the results as fraudulent and demanding their annulment. The capital witnessed widespread vandalism, looting, and arson, including the destruction of a minister’s residence and the burning of a national food depot.
As a response, internet services have been severely disrupted, with Netblocks confirming inaccessible sites and blocked WhatsApp calls. Mobile messages are also restricted due to extremely low connection speeds, a tactic reportedly aimed at hindering communication among demonstrators.
The first casualties of the protests were reported on Thursday, with six individuals admitted to the hospital, one in critical condition, following the unrest. A 21-year-old man lost his life, likely due to a gunshot during the demonstrations.
Opposition figures emphasize that the protests represent a “spontaneous uprising against autocratic rule,” and while disavowing direct organization, they express solidarity with the protesting youths. The government, however, asserts that it will not yield to violence, identifying the alleged instigators.
President Assoumani’s victory is anticipated to be officially confirmed by the Comoros’ Supreme Court over the weekend.
David Kiplangat, a 60-year-old elder who also served as an assistant pastor at an SDA church in Ketitui, met an unexpected demise while spending an evening at a lodging in Kapsoit, located in Kenya’s Kericho region, accompanied by a female companion.
The lifeless body of Kiplangat was discovered by the woman, who promptly informed the lodging’s management before fleeing the scene.
Belgut sub-county police commander Charles Kibati reportedly confirmed the incident, stating that Kiplangat was found dead with no visible injuries and without any clothing.
A used contraceptive was found at the scene.
He was found dead with no visible injuries. He had no clothes at the time,” he is quoted to have said.
The body has been moved to the mortuary of the Kericho County Referral Hospital, where an autopsy is planned.
Meanwhile, investigators are actively pursuing leads to locate and identify the woman who was in the company of Kiplangat.
This tragic incident is not the first of its kind in the region. In a similar occurrence last year, a Catholic priest from St. Peters Ruai passed away under mysterious circumstances in a hotel.
The priest, accompanied by a woman described as his girlfriend, was rushed to the hospital after feeling unwell. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
According to the earlier case’s police report, the priest’s girlfriend had alerted the hotel management when he started feeling dizzy and unconscious.
The priest passed away in his car, with white foam oozing from his mouth and nose.
Subsequently, the body was moved to Mater Hospital mortuary in Nairobi for autopsy, and the food and drinks consumed during their night out underwent investigative analysis.
As authorities delve into the circumstances surrounding Assistant Pastor David Kiplangat’s death, similarities with previous incidents raise concerns about the safety and well-being of individuals, especially those in religious positions, while engaging in personal activities outside their pastoral duties.
Investigations are ongoing to unravel the mysteries behind these unfortunate events.
Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, the President of Secam, affirmed that the message had received approval from Pope Francis, and their communion with the head of the Catholic Church will persist.
In the previous month, Pope Francis expressed that priests should be allowed to bless same-sex couples, prompting diverse reactions from both the Catholic Church and the LGBT community.
Nevertheless, the Vatican clarified that blessings should not be integrated into regular Church rituals or associated with civil unions or weddings.
It reiterated the stance that marriage is viewed as a union between a man and a woman.

Cardinal Ambongo asserts that same-sex blessings directly contradict the cultural ethos of Africa.
Catholic bishops in Africa have declined Pope Francis’ pronouncement to bless homosexual couples, emphasizing that it goes “against the will of God.”
The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (Secam), serving as the overarching organization for Catholic bishops across Africa, stated in a release that the Vatican’s endorsement of same-sex blessings is “inappropriate.”
“The constant teaching of the Church describes homosexual acts as ‘intrinsically disordered’ and contrary to the natural law,” it read.

Director of the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER), Prof Peter Quartey, underscored the crucial role of strategic investment in productive sectors using funds obtained from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express, Prof Quartey emphasized that IMF funds should not be treated as “free money” but rather directed towards investments fostering economic growth and sustainable income generation.
He highlighted the necessity to refrain from allocating resources to consumptive purposes, cautioning that such practices could impede the country’s ability to meet future repayment obligations.
According to Prof Quartey, priority should be given to infrastructure development, specifically citing the importance of investing in roads facilitating efficient transportation of goods from production areas to consumption centers and ports for export.
The Director argued that well-maintained roads would not only reduce travel time but also enhance productivity, especially in key production areas like Kumasi.
Prof Quartey advocated for diversifying the use of funds into areas such as agricultural support, credit, and agricultural insurance. He also emphasized the significance of adding value to production and supporting initiatives like “Planting for Food and Jobs 2.0.”
However, he stressed the importance of judiciously allocating these funds to the right individuals and sectors that positively contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“Some of the funds can go into that but we should make sure that they go into the right areas and be dispersed to the right kind of people who will produce and add to our GDP. And also add value to whatever we produce,” he said on Thursday.

The criticism arose after Cheddar threatened to acquire Blakk Rasta’s media outfit and demote him for expressing disapproval of Cheddar’s decision to rear tigers.
Blakk Rasta, an animal activist, strongly maintained that forcibly domesticating wild animals, such as removing their claws and teeth, amounts to animal cruelty and is unacceptable.
The clash of opinions has brought attention to the ethical concerns surrounding Cheddar’s choice to keep tigers.
“The President is nothing to us let alone such a ‘Kubolor Boy’ who just got money that cannot even construct proper sentences…I am shocked. This guy wants to be President. Are you mad? You have brought tigers, declawed them and removed their teeth, I said it was wrong. Come on the debating table with me, you tell me it’s legal. Ghana allows it so it’s ok. Yeah, Ghana allows it but it’s not everything Ghana allows that is ok. I am an animal activist. Brother says he doesn’t understand,” he hit back at Cheddar.
Cheddar heads the New Force, a political movement with the goal of securing political authority and bringing about transformative changes in the country.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has voiced apprehensions regarding the government’s Agenda 111 initiative, specifically expressing concerns about the locations and accessibility of healthcare facilities nationwide.
The 2022 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) Report, which encompassed 618 clusters across 261 administrative districts, revealed that a notable 40% of Ghanaian women aged 15 to 49 experience travel times exceeding 30 minutes to 2 hours for healthcare access.
During the presentation of the report on Thursday, January 18, Government Statistician Prof. Kobina Anim emphasized the urgent need for action to address this issue and prevent potential challenges in the the presentation of the said report on Thursday, January 18.
“We identify that about 2/5 that is in excess of 40% of women aged 15 to 49 years were travelling in excess of 30 minutes to access the nearest health facility.
“This puts into context the government’s intervention of Agenda 111 where it is being situated and the extent it is going to affect the fact that we have people traveling in excess of 30 minutes, specifically 40% of people traveling in excess of 30 minutes to access the nearest health facility.
“Of importance to us is the disaggregation across the 16 administrative regions.”
“And from the perspective of those travelling more than two hours to access the nearest health facility where we identify the Oti region as having more than 10% of women aged 15 to 49 years travelling over two hours to access the nearest facility. The range is from 0.8 in the Eastern region to 11.6%.
“This is where the conversation around the situation of Agenda 111 should be reflected. As in is it dominant in these places where we see a lot more people travelling over two hours to access a health facility,” he said.
Director-General of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, reiterates commitment to tackling disparities in the health sector.
“While some targets have been met nationally, it is a concern that several regions fall short, showing substantial regional disparities for almost all indicators including skill delivery, and percentage of children without vaccinations.
“In the face of these challenges, our service commits to providing strong leadership and clear guidance to ensure coordination among multiple partners of the sector.”
“I must say that the regional disparities also shore gross disparity among the newly created regions which we see also and that is why GHS moved in there very early to ensure that we can focus on these deprived areas. And we are hoping that the next DHS will show better results in these areas.
“So we pledge to deliver high-quality services at both the facility and community levels, but we will require the support of our media and the entire population to ensure that this is done,” he said.

Nana Kwame Bediako, the founder of New Force, has refuted allegations of tax evasion put forth by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The leader of New Force garnered attention in state newspapers due to his omission of personal income tax returns for the years 2013 to 2016, resulting in a fine of GH¢50,000.
A publication dated January 18 highlighted that despite settling an amount of GH¢209,171 for the period between 2018 and 2020, Bediako once again failed to submit his returns for the post-2020 period.
The publication further noted GRA’s estimation of Cheddar’s tax assessments to be GH¢2,088,228 and GH¢5,096,536 for the years 2021-2022, coupled with penalties for his non-compliance with personal income tax filings.
In response, Mr. Bediako has asserted that the GRA’s allegations are an attempt to disgrace him and tarnish his reputation.
He suggests that he is being unfairly targeted despite being among the few individuals consistently fulfilling their tax obligations.
On January 18, 2024, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, addressed the tax evasion allegations by utilizing social media platform X to provide his response.
Speaking in local parlance he said “ I woke up this morning, only to see my pictures on the front cover of multiple publications alleging that I have evaded taxes. I have dedicated almost 22 or 23 years in this country. When it comes to taxes, I have consistently fulfilled my obligations and continue to do so.”
“If we consider the state of the economy and the hardship we face as citizens, it appears the government was doing nothing to alleviate our difficulties.
“The government intends to disgrace me, so it published my pictures in the papers. No, you cannot disgrace a man whom God has graced,” he said.
He further expressed that if the GRA harbored concerns about the timeliness of his tax payments, they could have opted for a meeting instead of the method they chose.
Cheddar took the chance to call upon the government to generate more employment opportunities, aiming to alleviate unemployment rather than relying solely on a limited number of private individuals to sustain themselves.
Emphasizing his observation that the government struggles to fulfill its obligations, he declared his intention to vie for the presidency of Ghana. Unlike the current government, he pledged to transparently showcase evidence of how tax revenues would be utilized under his leadership.
After almost two decades of contributing his voice to productions by Hammer of the Last Two, Nii Mantse Aryeequaye is taking legal steps to transfer ownership of all the collaborative works into his name.
As the Founder of the Chalewote Street Art Festival, Mantse has filed a lawsuit against Hammer, alleging that the producer took unfair advantage of his works.
Commencing in July 2023, the legal action involves Ghanaian musician Obrafour, on whose musical piece, ‘Oye Ohene’ remix, Mantse was featured.
Obrafour had previously sued Canadian rapper Drake for $10 million for sampling a portion of the song that featured Nii Mantse without proper authorization.
Upon learning of the lawsuit, Mantse asserted his sole ownership of the phrase ‘Killer cut, blood’ on Obrafour’s ‘Oye Ohene’ remix. Failing to resolve issues with Obrafour and Hammer, Mantse decided to file a lawsuit against both parties.
In his legal pursuit, Mantse seeks ownership of moral and economic rights to the “killer cut, blood” phrase he voiced for Obrafour’s ‘Oye Ohene’ remix.
He also seeks an injunction to restrain Obrafour, Hammer, or any party from demanding or receiving payment for the work, ‘Killer cut, blood.’
Additionally, he pursues General Damages against Obrafour for misappropriating his work and actively seeking profit from it.
Moreover, Mantse wants Hammer to relinquish all works done for him and provide a record of all his works, including those used in other projects.
Despite acknowledging Mantse’s crucial role in his creative process, Hammer, according to Mantse, did not compensate him for the collaborative works.

Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder and leader of Perez Chapel International, has revealed how he confidently navigated the Nogokpo controversy.
He emphasized that he has faced more challenging situations where he emerged victorious both physically and spiritually.
Even in the midst of the Nogokpo incident, Archbishop Agyinasare clarified that he was merely delivering a sermon on divine protection and the existence of malevolent forces.
He supported his teachings with various examples, one of which was Nogokpo. Unfortunately, his message was misunderstood.
“I preached in Togo, in the year 2000, And the park they gave me to hold the crusade is “ED3VUDU park”. And no preacher succeeded in holding a crusade there on that park. And I held a crusade there. I did the crusade in Aflao. The chief of Aflao came to the meeting.”
[A video of the miracle crusade was played on a screen]
“You need to understand the dynamics of what is happening here. At this point there hadn’t been rain in the place for 3years or so. And they have traditional rain makers. They can make rain. And the chief comes there the first night, the second night, and they decide to make rain because rain must not beat the chief. And the chief had seen miracles. If rain beats him, it means all we did was nothing. So it starts drizzling then I take the microphone and I stop the rain. So the chief in talking says no no “I saw miracles but that is a small thing. Yesterday he stopped the rain and the rain could not fall. And then he says publicly, “Bishop when you are going, please make sure it rains for us.” Then I told him it would. I leave the place Saturday morning, it rained from Saturday morning to Saturday night. This was the meeting I held. I was talking about it and it brought the Nogokpo thing. So for me I have seen things,” the man of God expressed
Archbishop during a summit at the Perez Auditorium in Accra in 2023, described Nogokpo as the demonic headquarters of the Volta Region. His comments infuriated the people of Nogokpo and the larger Volta region.
The chiefs and elders of the town issued a two-week ultimatum to the archbishop to withdraw his comments and render an apology to the people.
The ultimatum elapsed but the Archbishop remained unperturbed till today.

In a recently obtained video by SaharaReporters, the late televangelist and founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Temitope Balogun Joshua, commonly known as TB Joshua, disclosed that he was not the biological father of Ajoke, the individual who accused him of abuse in a BBC investigative documentary.
Ajoke, whose full name is Ajoke God’swill Joshua, made severe allegations against TB Joshua in a three-part BBC documentary, claiming constant abuse and torture.
In response, TB Joshua clarified in the video that he adopted Ajoke in 2000 when she was abandoned as a baby. He reported the incident to a Lagos police station and received approval to adopt her.
TB Joshua explained that over time, Ajoke’s behavior became problematic, involving herself in fraudulent activities, theft, and causing disruptions among the church disciples.
In the video, TB Joshua addressed the church workers, introducing Ajoke and requesting prayers for her, acknowledging the challenges he faced in dealing with her actions.
He said, “It is such a surprise thing, she has what we call influence on the people, and she doesn’t influence little people. She influences big people, people that matter to the extent that two months ago, I had to call the commissioner of police to trace her file and they brought her file to me and there was a letter in the file demanding that I should return her and I held on to the letter.
“They too felt for me that I have given so much for her and that they should put her where she belongs. In a British school, there is a letter from the school which showed that this girl stole money. She agreed in the letter that she did it.”
A letter written to Prophet TB Joshua by a school in Togo, Benin Republic dated November 25, 2008, and signed by Gareth Jones on behalf of the academic team read, “We wish to bring to your notice formally this incident of theft perpetuated by Ajoke God’swill Joshua here in school.
“The school management has dealt with it by giving her a suspension and consequently her being put in isolation. It is a three school days suspension and she is allowed no visitors except her House Parent or Form Tutor who gives her some class work to do.
“We wish to assure you of our desire to keep her in school and to help her in various ways to reform and change for the better. We are of the opinion that taking her out of the school to another place could rather compound the situation and allow this habit to go on, but being in one place, getting the needed help from counselors, spiritual and temporal would to a great extent bring about the needed result.
“We acknowledge the fear you have of your name being tarnished but this we assure you once again it has been contained and would not be allowed to spill over. We have spoken to your delegation and given them a copy of the letter of plea as well as the statement of acceptance of wrong doing written by her which clearly indicates her being sorrowful for the situation she has created and remorse for it.
“We will continue to support in any way possible and be grateful for vice versa.”
One of the letters in which Ajoke admitted to the crime which was read by one of the church workers read, “I Ajoke Joshua is hereby admitting that I stole a sum of 41,000 CFA from (name of the school was hidden).
“This was a very criminal act and also something that should have not been done at all in the first place. I was so tempted by the money and I do not have any idea of whatsoever prompted me to do this. I am so sorry and I promise that in my whole entire life that this will not happen again. Please do not suspend me. I am sincerely sorry.”
TB Joshua said that after the school wrote the letter to him. According to him, “to them because nobody ever knew that she is not my biological child, we then showed them the letter of the day we found her when she was a baby. I took her to the police station and they told me to take care of her, and I felt, let her live with us.”
The cleric said the video of how Ajoke was found and picked up when she was a baby was recorded.
TB Joshua’s wife who went to the Togolese school with Ajoke to show the documents of her adoption said that the teachers in the school were surprised after the video was played to them.
TB Joshua lamented that “Ajoke has been a terrible thing that the police said they want to take her back to the orphanage home and they had taken her name and photocopies of the documents but I said no.”
A letter from the Ikotun Police Station, Lagos requesting the release of Ajoke who was adopted in March 2000, back to the police was read before the workers in the church.
TB Joshua said that if not that he had Ajoke, he would have had thousands of adopted children “but I warn you, they are very dangerous. They will never be grateful to whatever you do.”
He said that Ajoke “is now destroying the disciples here,” citing an example of one of the disciples who called him from Ghana and said that he had to go because Ajoke had destroyed him.
According to the disciple, “he cannot say no to Ajoke.” A document was also read on how Ajoke sent a message to the disciple saying she wanted to marry him and have a sexual affair with the disciple and that no matter what TB Joshua said, she was ready to die because of the disciple.
According to TB Joshua, this made the disciple to leave the church and go back to Ghana.

Navigating a romantic relationship within the workplace can be approached effectively by adopting key strategies.
Prioritize Professionalism: Emphasize a high level of professionalism in the workplace, keeping personal matters distinct from professional responsibilities. Minimize public displays of affection and uphold a respectful and professional demeanor to project a positive image.
Adherence to Company Policies: Be well-versed in your company’s policies regarding workplace relationships. Familiarity with rules such as disclosure requirements or restrictions based on job positions is crucial to avoid potential complications and align with company guidelines.
Maintain a Balanced Approach: Establishing a balance between personal and professional life is essential. Avoid excessive time together during work hours and prevent personal matters from affecting job performance. Encourage individual professional growth and support each other’s career aspirations.
Preparation for Challenges: Recognize that office romances may encounter challenges, and proactively address them as a couple. Anticipate potential conflicts of interest, teamwork dynamics, and gossip, and develop a joint plan to navigate and overcome these challenges.
Mature Conflict Resolution: Inevitable conflicts in a relationship should be handled with maturity, especially in a shared work environment. Address issues privately and impartially, focusing on constructive solutions rather than blame. If challenges persist, be open to reevaluation for the sake of professional well-being.
In general, blood group compatibility has little bearing on a person’s ability to become fertile or bear children.
Nonetheless, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to blood type compatibility, especially when the Rh factor and ABO blood group system are involved.
ABO Blood Group Compatibility: ABO compatibility is typically not a major fertility concern. However, there are instances where certain blood group incompatibilities may pose a slightly increased risk of miscarriage or pregnancy complications.
In rare cases, an immune reaction may occur if a woman with blood type O is carrying a fetus with blood type A or B.
Rh Factor Compatibility:Rh factor compatibility becomes a consideration if a woman is Rh-negative (e.g., A-, B-, AB-, O-) and her partner is Rh-positive (e.g., A+, B+, AB+, O+), potentially leading to Rh incompatibility during pregnancy.
This situation can result in complications in subsequent pregnancies, as the mother’s body may perceive the Rh-positive baby as a threat, prompting the production of antibodies against it.
Modern medical interventions, such as Rh immunoglobulin (RhIg) injections, are highly effective in preventing these complications.
It’s crucial to understand that such concerns are relatively uncommon, and advancements in medical practices have significantly mitigated the risks associated with blood group incompatibilities.
Most couples, irrespective of blood group combinations, can have healthy children with proper prenatal care and medical guidance.
Regular health checkups provide an opportunity to address any questions or concerns related to these issues.
Seeking advice from healthcare professionals or reproductive specialists, considering individual medical history and circumstances, is advisable for personalized guidance.

Jollof rice, a renowned West African dish, is celebrated for its vibrant flavors and appealing presentation. Originating from the Wolof people of Senegal, its name “Jollof” is derived from the Wolof word “Benachin,” meaning “one-pot” or “one-pot dish.”
This culinary delight has evolved into a staple across various West African countries, each infusing its unique variations into the recipe. Although the precise origins remain debated, historical evidence suggests Jollof rice has been part of West African culinary traditions for centuries.
The Wolof people, predominantly in Senegal, are credited with the dish’s early development. Its spread across the region can be attributed to trade, migration, and cultural exchanges.
Jollof rice involves cooking rice with a flavorful blend of tomatoes, onions, peppers, and spices. Protein sources like chicken, fish, or beef are often included, and additional ingredients such as vegetables or legumes can further customize the dish.
Different West African countries offer their unique twists on Jollof rice:
Nigerian Jollof Rice: Known for its rich and spicy flavor, Nigerian Jollof rice boasts ingredients like tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, Scotch bonnet peppers, and an array of spices. It is commonly served at celebrations and gatherings.
Ghanaian Jollof Rice: Characterized by more tomatoes and a milder spice profile, Ghanaian Jollof rice reflects a distinct flavor compared to its Nigerian counterpart. Ghanaians take pride in their version, often engaging in friendly banter with Nigerians about its superiority.
Senegalese Jollof Rice: As the Wolof people are credited as the originators, Senegalese Jollof rice is considered by some as the most authentic. It often incorporates a variety of vegetables and can be prepared with fish or other proteins.
Jollof rice has transcended West African borders, gaining global popularity for its delicious and aromatic qualities. It stands as a symbol of West African cuisine, delighting palates worldwide.
The notion that frequent sex alone can entirely prevent prostate cancer oversimplifies a complex health issue.
While there is some evidence suggesting a potential connection between sexual activity and prostate health, it is crucial to understand that prostate cancer is influenced by a combination of factors, and a singular focus on sex does not guarantee immunity from the disease.
Here are three reasons why relying solely on frequent sexual activity may not be a foolproof method for preventing prostate cancer:
Complex Nature of Prostate Cancer: Prostate cancer is a multifaceted disease influenced by genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors.
While some studies hint at a link between sexual activity and prostate health, this association is intricate and likely involves various factors. Age, family history, and ethnicity also contribute to prostate cancer risk.
Limited and Inconsistent Research Findings: Scientific evidence regarding the relationship between sexual activity and prostate cancer prevention is not entirely consistent. While some studies propose a potential protective effect, others find no significant association.
Ongoing research is needed to establish a clear and reliable connection, and caution is advised when interpreting findings based on limited or inconsistent evidence.
Healthier Lifestyle Factors Matter: Prostate health is intertwined with overall well-being. Adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption is essential for maintaining good prostate health. Sexual activity should be viewed as one aspect of a broader healthy lifestyle rather than a standalone preventive measure.
In conclusion, while there may be suggestive evidence of potential benefits from sexual activity for prostate health, it should not be considered a guaranteed or sole preventive measure for prostate cancer.
A holistic approach to health, incorporating regular medical check-ups and embracing a healthy lifestyle, remains crucial for reducing the risk of prostate cancer and promoting overall well-being.

The Delta State High Court in Effurun has rejected the preliminary objections raised by Nigerian-American singer Davido and his company, Davido Music Worldwide Limited.
The objections challenged the court’s jurisdiction in handling a breach of contract suit brought by Brownhill Investment Company Limited regarding the annual ‘Warri Again Concert.’
Trial judge Justice Nduka Obi dismissed both the objection related to the breach of contract case and another objection involving a defamation case against Davido Music Worldwide and Israel Afeare.
In the breach of contract case, the court dismissed arguments by the defendants, asserting that it was not a debt recovery case and was premature.
The court agreed with the claimant’s counsel, stating that the reliefs sought indicated a breach of contract action, not requiring a prior letter of demand.
Regarding the defamation case, the court affirmed its territorial jurisdiction, noting that the claimant’s residence in Delta State during the alleged online defamatory statements establishes the state’s authority to hear the cases.
The court has adjourned to hear all the cases against the defendants. Efforts for an out-of-court settlement were mentioned in court, but the claimant asserted no concrete arrangements were made, as the defendants sought terms unacceptable to the claimant.
Brownhill Investment Company Limited, the claimant, seeks N2 billion (over $150 million) in general damages against Davido.
Media personality and Image Bureau CEO, George Quaye, along with other stakeholders in the creative arts industry, express optimism about the Supreme Court’s forthcoming judgement on the case against the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
The stakeholders took the FDA to the apex court in November 2022 over its decision to ban the advertisement of alcohol by celebrities.
In an interview with JoyNews’ Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, George Quaye emphasized the significance of collaborations and endorsements with corporate institutions for the growth of the creative arts industry.
He believes the FDA’s ban restricts potential investments for the industry, particularly highlighting the importance of support and advertisement with alcoholic beverage brands as crucial investment opportunities for creatives.
“It is not like when the money comes into the space, celebrities or artists keep it to themselves. They reinvest it into the industry by employing other people and investing in other initiatives,” he said.
Quaye clarified that the lawsuit is not intended to incite conflict with the FDA but rather seeks a judgment favorable to everyone, ensuring that creatives receive the necessary investment and support.
He pointed out that when money flows into the industry, it benefits not only the artists themselves but also the broader creative ecosystem by creating employment opportunities and supporting various initiatives.
“The celebrities have kids and they have families. Naturally, they would not want to endorse products that would go and affect their kids negatively.
“So they are willing to be responsible and just as things are done responsibly, they are also willing to do this and do it responsibly. So we are hopeful for something in our favour, or let me say in their favour.”
He added that “at the end of the day, we can all sit with the FDA and find a way that even if celebrities endorse alcoholic products, it will still go in a way that children will be protected.”
The CEO of Image Bureau continued, saying that celebrities are still capable of encouraging young people to abstain from alcohol.
“So we’re just being hopeful that at least they would hear us…At the end of the day, it endures the benefit of Ghana as a country. It’s not like anybody wants to banter with the FDA or fight with them in a way.”
Heading: “Supreme Court to Deliver Judgment on FDA’s Celebrity Alcohol Advertisement Ban”
On April 10, 2024, the Supreme Court is set to deliver judgment on the case against the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). This date was established by a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court, chaired by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Background: In 2015, the Food and Drug Authority imposed a ban on celebrities participating in alcoholic beverage advertisements, citing adherence to a World Health Organization (WHO) policy.
The FDA stated that this measure aimed to protect minors from being influenced towards alcoholism. Despite these regulations, the issue resurfaced prominently in 2020 when Wendy Shay criticized the FDA and the Gaming Commission of Ghana for the ban.
The musician accused the FDA of attempting to hinder celebrities’ livelihoods and called for collective opposition to the policy. In 2022, the FDA was taken to the Supreme Court by plaintiff Mark Darlington Osae, a music publisher, and Chairman of the Ghana Music Alliance.
Plaintiff’s Case: Mark Darlington Osae, Chairman of the Ghana Music Alliance, challenged the FDA’s 2015 regulations in the Supreme Court.
He argued that these guidelines, prohibiting the use of “well-known personalities or professionals in alcoholic beverage advertising,” amounted to discrimination based on economic status and occupation, among other grounds.
The plaintiff seeks a declaration of unconstitutionality for these regulations, asserting inconsistency with articles 17(1) and 17(2) of the 1992 Constitution. The lawsuit aims to challenge the ban as an infringement of fundamental rights.

In the 2022/2023 fiscal year, the Ghana National Fire Service’s Eastern Regional Command reported a noteworthy 10.77% reduction in fire outbreaks.
The statistical analysis revealed a decline in the total number of fire incidents within the region, dropping from 650 cases in 2022 to 580 cases in 2023.
The recorded incidents encompassed diverse categories such as domestic, industrial, vehicular, commercial, institutional, and bushfires.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO I) Jennifer N.Y. Quaye, the Eastern Regional Commander of the GNFS, shared insights in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.
Ms. Quaye attributed the decrease in institutional and bushfire cases in 2023 to intensified fire safety education efforts by the regional command.
However, she highlighted an increase in domestic, industrial, and commercial fire outbreaks in 2023, suggesting a lapse in public adherence to optimal fire safety practices.
Ms. Quaye outlined plans to bolster fire safety education, targeting locations such as lorry stations, schools, churches, and mosques. The initiative will also include a door-to-door campaign and leverage various social media platforms to effectively reach a broader audience.
She added, “I call on the public to grant fire personnel an audience when the education commences to reduce fire outbreaks drastically.”
In addition, she recommended that people avoid using phony or subpar cables when wiring their buildings and instead hire licensed electricians.
“Install fire alarms, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers on your premises to ensure early detection of fires before they get out of hand,” she said.
The Regional Command assured the public of its readiness to respond to any emergency call within the mandate.

A Kpando District Court has remanded Prosper Ayirebi, a 27-year-old Kente weaver, into prison custody over his alleged involvement in the murder of Margaret Mireku in Golokuati, Volta Region.
Ayirebi is accused of tying the victim with a rope and subjecting her to sexual abuse. The court has reserved Ayirebi’s plea, and he is set to reappear on March 18, 2024.
The prosecution, led by Detective Inspector Henry Doku, revealed that the complainant, Mawuse Afordofe, a trader and maternal sister to the deceased, had disclosed four months prior that Ayirebi had allegedly raped Margaret Mireku after entrusting her with his laundry.
The deceased, feeling embarrassed due to the age difference, did not report the incident to the police.
On January 11, 2024, witnesses discovered Margaret Mireku in her house with her feet securely tied with a rope. She disclosed that Ayirebi had forcibly had sex with her the previous night. Despite efforts to revive her, she passed away.
The police arrested Ayirebi, and a subsequent examination of the deceased’s body revealed no visible marks of violence but foaming at the mouth.
The body was taken to Kpando Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital, where medical officers confirmed her death. A postmortem examination was conducted on January 12, 2024, and investigations are ongoing.

Award-winning Gospel Musician, Diana Hamilton, shares the poignant story from her secondary school days at Ghana National College that inspired her latest song, ‘The Doing of the Lord.’
The track, featuring Nigerian Gospel Musician Mercy Chinwo, was released on Monday, January 15.
During an interview on TV3’s ‘New Day,’ the ‘Adom’ hitmaker recounted a harrowing incident where her school mother in secondary school led her, as a freshman, into the hands of seniors who nearly assaulted her.
This traumatic experience left her stranded on the streets of Kotokraba in Cape Coast after being carried away by her peers.
“We went for interco and I was in first year and then my school mother then said follow these guys, they are going to get me some biscuit and give it to you and you will bring it to me.
“As a fresher, I followed them by the time I realised one was in front of me and another behind me and I was in the middle then one opened the door and there was another girl so I thought it was two ladies and two boys going somewhere.
“The next thing I saw was the one in front opened the door to a car sat in and the one behind me urged me to sit and I sat and the other guy also sat in, the next thing I heard was the other girl said ‘ɛneɛ mo mbaabai ooo’ [then goodbye], she left.”
She continued, “By the time I realised I was in Cape Coast-Kotokraba in a funny area. It took God to give an SS1 girl the courage to tell upper sixth formers I will not enter this house,” she told Naa Ashorkor on ‘New Day’.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has temporarily suspended its parliamentary primaries in the Nhyiaeso Constituency following the filing of an interlocutory injunction by one of the aspirants.
This move comes in response to a legal challenge, resulting in the postponement of the elections.
During a National Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the party took further actions.
A contestant in the Bimbilla constituency was disqualified, leading to Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, running unopposed.
In another development, Lydia Seyram Alhassan is poised to run unopposed in Ayawaso West-Wuogon following the rejection of an appeal by the party’s former constituency youth organizer, Owusu Amankwah.
As the NPP prepares for its parliamentary primaries scheduled for January 27, about thirty other aspirants are anticipated to go unopposed in constituencies where the party already holds representation.
Ekumfi MP Abeiku Crentsil asserts that President Akufo-Addo inadvertently promoted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by admitting to the lack of development in Ekumfi.
According to the President, the neglect stemmed from voters opting to oust Francis Ato Cudjoe, his appointed Deputy Minister, in the 2020 general elections.
Crentsil asserts that President Akufo-Addo inadvertently promoted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) by admitting to the lack of development in Ekumfi.
According to the President, the neglect stemmed from voters opting to oust Francis Ato Cudjoe, his appointed Deputy Minister, in the 2020 general elections.
“Ato Cudjoe was your MP and I made him a Deputy Minister and you voted him out in the last elections and because of that, I did not pay attention to development in your area, I have to be honest with you but since you have brought it up I will pay attention to it.”
After this, Mr. Crentsil emphasized his doubts that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, regardless of its tenure, would give Ekumfi’s development top priority in an interview with Citi FM on January 17.
“To me, I can say that the president has more or less spoken for the people to keep on voting for the NDC. Because indeed, he knows that if the NPP is in power for whatever years, there is nothing they can offer the people of Ekumfi. He’s finished our campaign for us,” he said.
“It is a very unfortunate statement, a very, very unfortunate talk because this is my second term of being an MP for the people of Ekumfi. And indeed when you go to Ekumfi, whatever development is being done is by the NDC or NDC government by then. It is unfortunate that the NPP has been in power for the past eight years and they cannot point to one project they have done for the people of Ekumfi.”
“I think if the president is talking to the people of this country, I think he should say something comfortable. He shouldn’t say things like that. I was unhappy when I heard it.”
Children at certain illegal mining sites in the Western Region are involved in labor, drug use, prostitution, and exposure to mercury as they strive to make ends meet.
A brief documentary conducted by OAfrica, a charitable organization, in collaboration with Tiger Eye PI, sheds light on the harrowing experiences of children engaged in illegal mining.
The documentary exposes the severe health risks, restricted educational opportunities, and human rights violations that these children endure.
In a statement issued by OAfrica following the broadcast of the five-minute documentary, it emphasized, “each mine site experiences ecological destruction, human rights abuse, illegal drugs, human trafficking and prostitution for underage children.”
It stated that the State ought to endeavor to accomplish the goals of completely formalizing the small-scale mining industry and doing away with child labor in Galamsey.
“Our children are opting out of school. Working in the mines promises easy and quick money and that is keeping children as young as nine years out of school,” OAfrica said.
Most children at galamsey sites are consistently exposed to mercury, a substance that inflicts irreversible damage to their central nervous systems.
While the exact number of individuals involved in galamsey nationwide remains unknown, estimates range from 20,000 to 50,000. The Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) sector is reported to engage around one million people, with an additional estimated 4.5 million dependents.
OAfrica has urged the state to implement its 2020 National Action Plan, specifically targeting the reduction of mercury use in the ASM sector.
“Under the Minamata Convention on mercury, Ghana ratified it in 2017 and has committed to train healthcare workers on the effects of mercury, reduce mercury use in Small-scale gold mining, promote mercury-free methods and control the trade in mercury,” it said.
‘These actions ought to be implemented urgently to save our younger generation,” OAfrica said.
OAfrica is Ghanaian charity organisation that empowers children and young adults in need of care protection.
