Ignore the 20% increase in transportation costs – Ministry

The Ministry of Transport has issued a statement urging the public to dismiss reports indicating an alleged increase in public transportation costs nationwide.

According to the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), as disclosed in a statement on Wednesday following a national management meeting held on January 16, 2024, at the Trades Union House, it was decided that transportation fares would be raised by 20% at all loading points of the Union, effective January 24, 2024.

The statement from GPRTU cited the necessity for this adjustment, attributing it to excessive taxes on spare parts that have negatively impacted their operations due to the rising prices of these components.

However, in response to GPRTU’s announcement, the Ministry of Transport has called on the public to adhere to the existing transportation costs, disregarding any potential increases that commercial drivers may impose in the coming days.

“There has not been any negotiation with the transport operators for a review of transport fares” the Ministry stated.

It further stated that, as in previous instances, the public will be duly informed when such negotiations and decisions are required.

The Ministry of Transport says it will continue to ensure “fair and reasonable public transport fares, keeping in mind the needs of transport operators and the general public.”

Comoros President Azali Assoumani secures a fourth term in a contested election

Comoros President Azali Assoumani has won a fourth term in an election contested by the opposition, who deemed it “fraudulent.”

The electoral body Ceni announced his victory with 63% of the vote.

Despite allegations of ballot stuffing and early closures made by opposition candidates, voter turnout was low, standing at only 16% due to an opposition boycott, as reported by the Reuters news agency.

“We cannot talk about results because there was no election,” Mouigni Baraka Said Soilihi, one of Mr Assoumani’s opponents, was quoted as saying by Reuters.

International election observers have asserted that the voting process was mostly free and fair despite reported irregularities by the opposition. The election commission disclosed that out of 189,000 voters who went to the polls, only 55,259 (16% of registered voters) participated in the presidential election.

The low turnout was influenced by calls for a boycott from some opposition candidates, leading certain voters to engage solely in the concurrent gubernatorial elections. With a registered voter population exceeding 330,000 in a country estimated to have a population of 836,000 by the World Bank.

Azali Assoumani, a former military officer, initially seized power through a coup in 1999 and secured his first election victory in 2002. After a hiatus in politics from 2006, he staged a comeback with a presidential win in 2016. A controversial 2018 referendum, which eliminated presidential term limits, allowed him to pursue a fourth term despite widespread protests.

Assoumani’s leadership has faced controversy, with critics accusing him of imprisoning and exiling political opponents. Currently serving as the chairperson of the African Union.

Kidnappers kill 3 girls after family failed to pay N60m ransom

In a horrifying incident in the Dutse area of the Federal Capital Territory, three young girls who were kidnapped met a gruesome fate at the hands of their abductors.

The perpetrators, suspected to be herdsmen, invaded Sagwari Layout Estate in Dutse on Sunday, January 7, where they abducted ten individuals, including two hotel workers and eight residents.

After the kidnappings, the criminals demanded ransom from the victims’ families. Regrettably, due to the families’ inability to meet the ransom demands promptly, the kidnappers mercilessly murdered some of the victims, seemingly as a tactic to increase pressure on the families.

Over the weekend, four lifeless bodies were discovered dumped at Ida, near Ushafa in Bwari Area Council. Among the identified victims are Folorunsho Ariyo, a secondary school student, and Nabeeeha Al-kadriyar.

Folorunsho was the daughter of the Chief Legal Officer of the National University Commission (NUC), hailing from Ekiti State, as reported by the Nigerian Tribune.

According to family sources, the kidnappers wanted N60 million in exchange for the release of Folorunsho, her mother, and her three siblings; however, they were only able to raise roughly N5 million.

“Talks were still ongoing, and as of last Friday, we were optimistic about a positive outcome until we were contacted to pick up her body,” a family source said.

The other family members remain with their kidnappers, but the teenage girl was buried on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Dutse Cemetery, Abuja.

In Nabeeha’s situation, she was abducted along with her father and five sisters. However, her father was released to procure the ransom for the freedom of his children.

Tragically, Alhaji Abdulfatai, the uncle who led police officers to intervene in the kidnapping, lost his life as he was shot dead by the perpetrators

Leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako popularly known as Cheddar has provided insight into his decision to appoint Shalimar Abbiusi, a foreigner, as his spokesperson.

He explained that his intent was to challenge the narrative that white individuals cannot serve as subordinates to Africans.

According to him, Shalimar’s role was aimed at demonstrating to Ghanaians that Africans have the ability to hire and employ white individuals, thus changing the perception and showcasing a different perspective.

“Shalima was more or less hired. So it means she was working for us. She waas not here to come and dictate or instruct us about our political future. About our governance. She was actually instructed by us on what to say and what to report. Now the question is, am I not showing Ghanaians that it is very possible to hire white people to do any sought of job that we want? That’s the sought of example am trying to show. [That’s what you were trying to do?] Yes am trying to do…”, Cheddar explained.

The Ghanaian Presidential Aspirant, who recently revealed his identity and political ambitions, has engaged in various interviews throughout the week.

While discussing his wealth and ability to govern, he has faced criticism and scrutiny from the public.

Despite the challenges, he encourages Ghanaians to shift their focus towards the positive changes he can bring to the nation, rather than dwelling on the origins of his wealth.

He argues that questioning the source of his money is a form of judgment that doesn’t truly acknowledge the hard work and effort he has invested in accumulating his wealth.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen on Tuesday, Mr Bediako emphasised that rather than criticising or questioning those who have achieved great success, Ghanaians should celebrate their achievements and learn from them.

“If someone makes money and decides to spend it, I can’t question him. He can decide to use it for what he wants even if he wants to use his money to buy beer and khebab,” Cheddar stated.

  • 4 strategies for hiding your big stomach in tight dress

4 strategies for hiding your big stomach in tight dress

There are a few style hacks you can attempt to reduce the visibility of your belly in a bodycon dress.

Remember that the key is to feel comfortable and confident in your attire. Here are four tips to help camouflage your belly in a bodycon dress:

Choose the right fabric: Go for dresses made from thicker and more structured fabrics. These materials can help smooth out lumps and bumps, providing a more flattering silhouette.

Fabrics like ponte knit, scuba, or thicker jerseys can be good choices as they have some stretch but also offer a bit more control.

Wear shapewear: Consider using shapewear underneath your bodycon dress. High-waisted shaping shorts or a full-body shaper can help to flatten and smooth the stomach area.

Choose shapewear that provides support without causing discomfort, and make sure it fits well to avoid creating bulges in other areas.

Go for ruching or draping: Look for dresses with strategic ruching or draping details around the midsection. These design elements can help camouflage the belly by creating visual interest and distracting from any perceived imperfections.

Ruching gathers fabric in a way that disguises bumps, while draping can add an elegant flow to the dress.

Select darker colors or prints: Dark colors and small, subtle prints can be more forgiving when it comes to hiding the stomach area. Darker shades like black, navy, or deep burgundy tend to create a slimming effect.

If you like prints, go for smaller, more subdued patterns against dark backgrounds; these can sometimes look more attractive than larger, more pronounced prints.

A dress’s fit can also be greatly influenced by its tailoring, so if necessary, think about making adjustments to get the most body-shaping style possible.

GWR attempt: Nigerian man abandons 200-hour ironing marathon at 142hrs

On Tuesday, Nigerian man Dauda Abdulfata halted his 200-hour ironing marathon after completing 142 hours.

Dauda had aimed to break the Guinness World Record for the longest ironing marathon, initiating the attempt last Wednesday in Ganaja Village, Lokoja, Kogi State, as reported by SaharaReporters.

A video from his team captured Dauda explaining that he decided to stop the marathon due to concerns about its impact on his health.

He said, “I appreciate your efforts, your encouragement and your support to see this dream come true. I’m a Kogite, a Nigeria who has broken the 2015 record of 100 hours ironing marathon and already on the set to set mine to 200 and above as promised, but due to report from my health and my medical personnel.

“I deem it fit to let you know, But I know you. You don’t want to hear this. You want to see me go through the 200 hours But health is wealth, and health before anything.  My medical team has advised me to put a halt to this and at this juncture. I see you celebrate with me.”

Dauda Abdulfata’s objective is to surpass the current record of 100 hours, held by Gareth Sander of the United Kingdom. Gareth Sanders, a 28-year-old cleaning company manager, achieved the world record for non-stop ironing in 2015 by ironing approximately 2,000 items continuously for nearly 100 hours.

SaharaReporters obtained an acceptance email from the Guinness World Record allowing Dauda to commence his attempt to break the existing record. A review from the GWR will be necessary to determine if he successfully secures the new world record.

The pursuit of Guinness World Records has gained significant attention in Nigeria and other African countries, notably when Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, broke the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.

We refused to accept bribes from civilians during 2023 Christmas season – Police

Over the past Christmas season, a number of police officers on patrol duty have disclosed instances where they resisted bribery attempts by civilians.

In 2021, the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) labeled the Ghana Police Service as one of the most corrupt institutions in the country.

A subsequent 2022 research, conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service in collaboration with anti-corruption stakeholders, ranked the Police Service as the most corrupt among 23 sampled institutions.

In response, Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, vehemently rejected the characterization, challenging the credibility of the research.

Despite controversies, there seems to be a collective effort to restore the image of the service, as indicated by accounts of junior personnel rejecting bribes during an evaluation session of police operations at the Police Headquarters.

General Constable Sowu reported, “We received guidance on avoiding extortion, and when on duty, some civilians attempted to offer us money. Fortunately, we consistently declined such offers by the grace of God.”

Another member of the police patrol team corroborated General Constable Sowu’s account, stating, “Some drivers attempted to give money to our colleagues, but they refused. There’s a perception that police always accept bribes, and we are determined to change that narrative.”

One of the biggest challenges with this is that sleep can be hard to improve if you continue to feel stressed and do things like taking naps or not keeping a consistent bedtime. Keeping a regular sleep schedule can be very helpful.

Struggling to be present for your loved ones

If you notice that you’re tuning out from your family or other loved ones more than you would like, or even that you just can’t be bothered to call or text anyone, this is a sign that you’re under too much pressure or demands.

Feeling overwhelmed and like you can’t catch up

For many, making lists is a lifestyle choice. But if you find that you’re making endless lists of lists of their lists, and feel like you just can’t take action on anything or catch up, you might be feeling burned out.

This could just mean you’re at least feeling so stressed that you can’t take action on your plans, which unfortunately only increases stress and burnout in the long run.

Lack of interest in things you used to enjoy

Feeling disinterested in things that you used to feel excited about can also be an alarming symptom, and you probably recognize when you feel this way.

People will say, “I used to love doing ___, but now I just don’t even feel like it.” This is a sign that your life is out of balance.

    Depression or feeling hopeless

While there are differences between clinical depression and burnout, often the two situations might mimic each other.

Particularly in the world right now, at times things do feel hopeless in terms of the pandemic and when it will be over. Feeling sad, lonely, and extra emotional can be a sign that you need to do something different to regain your balance.

    Physical symptoms

Physical symptoms of burnout can include headaches, stomachaches, and increases in pain or chronic symptoms you might already experience pretty often.

    Looking to numb your emotions

If you find yourself spending a lot of time seeking numbing kinds of coping skills like drinking, smoking, or watching TV, this is a sign that you’re avoiding your current reality. Most likely, that’s because it feels so difficult to improve.

    Obsessions

Spending a lot of time thinking about the same things over and over and becoming fixated on them? This can be another sign that you’re struggling and heading toward burnout.

    Appetite changes

Appetite changes can be wide-ranging and vary between wanting to eat too much, restricting your eating, not being hungry, being more hungry than usual, and eating foods you may not normally eat.

    Lack of compassion

This is a big clue that you might be having a hard time. Anytime you’re being super critical of yourself or others, it’s usually a sign that you’re not in an emotionally healthy place.

I hope that this information helps you understand what you might be experiencing right now. During tough situations, it’s truly a challenge to cope and avoid burnout; on some level, burnout might be inevitable.

Getting through this time is possible if you can try to understand what you’re seeking and needing. Then, try to provide that for yourself in healthy and safe ways.

For many, this takes digging deep and taking a look at yourself and your usual coping strategies.

Reading, meditating, healthy cooking, exercise, journaling, music, and creative projects may help you begin to feel better.

You might also want to take social media and news breaks or limit the amount of time you interact with these platforms every day to improve your mental state

Fitch Solutions predicts a reduction in policy rate by 8%, bringing it down to 22% in 2024 by BoG

Fitch Solutions predicts that the Bank of Ghana will initiate a significant monetary easing cycle, reducing the policy rate by a total of 800 basis points to reach 22.00% by the close of 2024.

This projection is based on a considerable moderation of headline inflation, as indicated by the UK-based firm.

“With inflation moderating substantially through 2024, we anticipate that the BoG will embark upon a sizeable monetary easing cycle, cutting the policy rate by a cumulative 800bps to 22.00% by year-end.”

Fitch Solutions noted that the impact of interest rate adjustments on the real economy typically requires around 12 months due to the lag in monetary transmission mechanisms.

Consequently, the firm believes that the Bank of Ghana‘s dovish monetary policy stance is improbable to lead to a significant rise in real loan growth. This is particularly evident as real loan growth has persisted in contractionary territory from January to August 2023.

The Bank of Ghana increased the benchmark policy rate to 30.00% in 2021, a rise of 1,150 basis points. Access to corporate credit has been hampered as a result.

In the meantime, the Bank of Ghana’s Monetary Policy Committee will review economic developments during its 116th regular meeting, which will take place from Tuesday, January 23 to Friday, January 26.

Fancy Gadam collected GHS50,000 from my team but failed to show up at Tamale concert – Sista Afia laments

Ghanaian artist, Sista Afia, has expressed disappointment and pain over Fancy Gadam’s absence at her recent Tamale concert.

Despite the existing tension, she attempted to collaborate with both Fancy Gadam and Macasio, prominent figures known for their rivalry in the Tamale music scene.

Macasio withdrew due to a scheduling conflict, but Sista Afia negotiated with Fancy Gadam, who initially demanded GH¢100,000.

After reducing the fee by half, Fancy Gadam agreed to participate. However, he ultimately failed to show up on the event day, impacting the concert’s success, as all attempts to reach him and his team have been ignored.

“Fancy and Macasio are the fans favorite in Tamale and without any of them at your show, nobody is gonna leave their house. The attendance was poor and I felt I was sabotaged. He was very close to me, I know him personally so I was obviously affected by what he did. The amount he charged me his fellow artiste is outrageous, but my team were ready to pay immediately, but he just decided not to come”.

She noted that Fancy has not apologized to her or her team nor provided an explanation for the no-show. She expressed sorrow over the incident, deeming it an avoidable and embarrassing situation.

Sista Afia, in light of the country advocating for peace in the creative arts industry, voiced her opinion that such attitudes should not be tolerated.

I released TOR information because the president said we should act as citizens not spectators – Interdicted TOR employee

One of the interdicted executives of the General Transport Petroleum Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU), Anthony Joojo Koomson, asserts that he was justified in revealing specific details about the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Torentco deal to the public.

Koomson, one of the two union executives interdicted by the TOR Board of Directors for disclosing classified information during a press conference, defends his actions.

He states that his decision to make these disclosures was influenced by the President’s encouragement for individuals to speak up when they perceive something wrong happening.

Speaking to JoyNews, he said “So, from the premise of the President’s inaugural speech that he wants all Ghanaians to be citizens and not spectators, we thought we need to go a step further to make Ghanaians know what is happening at TOR and allow all stakeholders to have access to the issue or the information that we have officially gotten from the Registrar General’s outfit concerning the incorporation of the Tema Energy and Processing Limited and the directors behind the TOR workers,” he said.

He clarified that a misinterpreted code was used to interdict people who were worried about management carrying out specific tasks correctly.

A strike over the deal and the interdiction has been threatened by GTPCWU.

  • Don’t hold Bawumia responsible for Ghana’s economic woes, his VP role limited him – Atta Akyea

Don’t hold Bawumia responsible for Ghana’s economic woes, his VP role limited him – Atta Akyea

Member of Parliament representing the Akim Abuakwa South constituency, Samuel Atta Akyea, argues that solely attributing the country’s economic challenges to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would be unfair.

Atta Akyea highlighted the substantial constraints faced by Dr. Bawumia in his capacity as Vice President, emphasizing that he lacked the authority to independently implement his ideas for addressing economic difficulties.

During an appearance on Citi TV on Tuesday, January 16, the former Works and Housing Minister asserted that the ultimate decision-making authority on government policies rested with the President, not Dr. Bawumia.

Atta Akyea defended Dr. Bawumia as an esteemed individual with the resilience to effectively serve the nation. He expressed confidence that, if elected president on December 7, Dr. Bawumia would be able to implement his ideas for the betterment of the Ghanaian people.

“This is the first time Ghana is going to have a president who is an economist, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. If the problem of Ghana now and people are talking about its seriousness, I agree to a reasonable extent that the economy is not in its best form. When you have a toothache, do you give it to a carpenter or a dentist? Ghana will be in a safer pair of hands when we bring Dr. Bawumia.”

“Ghana is going to get a man with shock absorbers, the finest gentleman, to help us solve a major problem facing us, the economy. He was in a very serious adversary role, which is what people don’t want to see. It’s cruel and vile propaganda for everybody to say that let’s place all the economic woes of Akufo-Addo on Dr. Bawumia. It’s unkind,” he said.

Ghana has been experiencing a persistent economic recession, which prompted the government to request a bailout from the International Monetary Fund.

As the leader of the Economic Management Team, Dr. Bawumia has come under fire for the country’s financial difficulties.

However, Mr. Atta Akyea argues that it is wrong and ought to stop to place the blame on Dr. Bawumia.

What I can contribute to the nation is more important than questioning the source of my wealth – Cheddar

Founder of the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako, widely recognized as Cheddar has urged Ghanaians to shift their focus towards the positive contributions he can make to the nation, rather than scrutinizing the origins of his wealth.

In his perspective, inquiries into the source of his wealth amount to judgment and do not accurately reflect the dedication and hard work he has invested in amassing his prosperity.

During an appearance on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen on Tuesday, Mr. Bediako stressed the importance of celebrating the achievements of successful individuals instead of engaging in criticism or questioning. He encourages Ghanaians to draw inspiration from such accomplishments.

“If someone makes money and decides to spend it, I can’t question him. He can decide to use it for what he wants even if he wants to use his money to buy beer and khebab.”

He revealed that he began earning money while working for a telecom company, which he later sold and began to resell scraps.

“It went from the scraps to collecting piles of scraps, then I give it to the steel yards. The steel yards are the ones who buy steel and right now a company like B5 also buys scraps which they use for iron rods and sell.”

“When I made my money, I started a business in Ghana and the business is what I’m investing in the country. So if Ghanaians don’t like this, then what do they like,” he asked.

The creator of New Force emphasized that he was unaffected by inquiries about where his wealth came from.

He claimed that his success was the product of his own diligence and hard work and that he owed no one an explanation.

  • Inusah Fuseini backs request by SDA church for change of election date

Inusah Fuseini backs request by SDA church for change of election date

Former Member of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini, has expressed support for the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s request to change the election date to December 7, 2024.

During an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Tuesday, January 16, he pointed out that Article 21(c) of the Constitution affirms the right of every individual to freedom of worship, the practice of religion, and the manifestation thereof.

“What the Seventh-day Adventist Church is saying is that they believe that Saturday which is their Sabbath will not permit them to take part in the voting and they are relying on inclusivity and participation of the election, and they request this date be changed to a Tuesday. That will require a constitutional amendment obviously and whether the government has appetite to do that is another matter. They are right in demanding,” he stressed.

The church has submitted separate petitions to the Electoral Commission, requesting a change in the election date from the traditional December 7. This appeal stems from the fact that December 7 falls on a Saturday, conflicting with the Sabbath, a sacred day devoted to the worship of God.

Proposing either the first or second Tuesday as more suitable alternatives to uphold inclusive democracy, the church is also actively pursuing a constitutional amendment by submitting another petition to the Attorney General. This amendment aims to modify the constitutional provisions restricting the timing of parliamentary and presidential elections in Ghana.

In emphasizing the importance of addressing the church’s concerns, former Member of Parliament Inusah Fuseini asserted that if the government values the church’s role in influencing the presidency, it should take their requests seriously.

Moreover, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, a member of Parliament’s Christian Fellowship, disclosed that Parliament is awaiting the Attorney General’s guidance on the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s plea for a revision of the December 7 date. He clarified that the petition has not yet reached the attention of Parliament, considering it news to him.

“We are waiting if the Attorney General will listen to them and bring it to us. Then, we will look at the petition and whether there is merit in taking that amendment at all.”

The Ho West MP pointed out that even though the date of December 7 has been set in stone, their petition should be given some consideration so that the nation can make a decision, considering their sizeable membership.

“If you look at the numbers of about 395,000 members, it clearly shows that it has at least close to about one per cent of Ghana’s population and so it is worth listening to them and also look at the merit in it,” he added.

Martin Kpebu, a Private Legal Practitioner, has proposed the implementation of early voting for the church, akin to the practice for security agencies.

He suggests that this could be accomplished if the state is willing to bear the associated costs.

However, he acknowledges that the potential drawback of this approach is that it may place an additional burden on opposition parties.

    R. Kelly claims ignorance of $10.5m ruling to 6 women

    R. Kelly asserts he had no knowledge of the August 2023 ruling awarding $10.5 million to six women who alleged threats linked to the cancellation of a Surviving R. Kelly docuseries screening.

In court documents obtained by TMZ, Kelly contends that had he been aware, he would have contested the lawsuit, citing an overload of legal matters and changes in his representation that caused this particular case to go unnoticed.

Kelly further argues that if he did receive the lawsuit, his limited reading ability, equivalent to a grade schooler, necessitates reliance on lawyers for comprehension.

The lawsuit implicated Kelly and his manager at the time, Donnell Russell, in making threats to silence the women featured in the docuseries.

Kelly maintains that Russell, not officially his manager, should shoulder the blame for any threat related to the screening shutdown.

In response, Russell received a one-year sentence tied to the lawsuit. R. Kelly, already serving a 30-year prison term for racketeering and sex trafficking, faces an additional 20 years for child sex crimes.

Carlos Ahenkorah reveals why Dr Bawumia can’t tell people in govt what to do

Member of Parliament for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah, has expressed his perspective on the limited authority of Vice President Dr. Mahamadu in appointing individuals to manage the country’s affairs.

The Tema West MP suggests that Dr. Bawumia, being a technocrat, would have ensured that only qualified individuals are given opportunities to serve in various positions if he had the power to appoint.

However, due to the limitations on his authority, Dr. Bawumia cannot influence appointments and must wait until he becomes president to implement his vision more effectively.

“In my opinion, Dr. Bawumia lacks the opportunity and authority to instruct people on what to do. This is because he holds the position of vice president and not president. If Bawumia had the power to select and appoint individuals to work under him, some people might have already been removed from their positions. However, I can confidently state that even if you fully support Bawumia, if he becomes president, he would not engage in appointing unqualified individuals. Bawumia is a dedicated technocrat who values knowledge. If you possess the necessary qualifications for a specific role, that’s where he would place you,” Carlos Ahenkorah explained in an interview.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) elected the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its new leader and flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, emerged victorious with 61.43% in the NPP primaries, securing the party’s nomination for the race to the presidency.

Dr. Bawumia’s journey to become the governing party’s flagbearer was not without intense competition and political drama, including a strong challenge from Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and the fallout from the Super Delegates’ Conference.

Starvation claims lives of approximately 225 in Tigray

Since last July, approximately 225 people, including children, have succumbed to starvation in Ethiopia’s drought-affected and conflict-ridden Tigray region, as reported by local officials.

The majority of the deaths, totaling 209, were documented in the rural area of Edga Arbi. Additionally, 16 individuals displaced by a two-year civil war, which concluded in 2022, have lost their lives due to hunger in another area.

Tigray officials had previously issued warnings about the possibility of a famine akin to the one witnessed in Ethiopia in the mid-80s, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children and adults.

Despite these concerns, the federal government denies an imminent famine and asserts ongoing efforts to provide aid.

According to the United Nations, over 20 million people in Ethiopia require food assistance due to conflicts, drought, and flooding.

In such moments, it becomes essential to discover effective ways to instantly boost your mood and alleviate stress.

    Eat food

Feeling down? It might be hunger rather than sadness.

Consider the last time you enjoyed a delicious meal. Take a moment to envision a satisfying dish that would bring you joy, and treat yourself by going to get it.

    Take a walk

Repeated studies have demonstrated that walking can effectively enhance your mood and alleviate depression. When you find yourself feeling depressed at home, step outside for a walk.

Similarly, if the pressures of work become overwhelming, consider taking a stroll to clear your mind.

Visit or talk to a friend

More than just a friend, someone who exudes positive energy and shares jokes that leave you in stitches.

If it’s feasible, visit their house; if not, connect with them through video or a phone call. Witness how their presence can remarkably uplift your mood.

    Watch a movie or series

Have you ever spent all day and night watching a movie or series, and you were so engrossed that you forgot about what’s happening to you? Movies make you temporarily suspend your thoughts and focus on what is happening on the screen in front of you, and sometimes that’s all you need.

Put off your phone and data

Sometimes, you’re unhappy because you are perpetually online. It’s unhealthy to constantly watch and read what other people are doing, saying, and commenting on.

Unplug yourself from the noise, pick up a book and read, or even sleep or take a walk.

  • 3 reasons why remaining friends with your ex-lover is not advisable

3 reasons why remaining friends with your ex-lover is not advisable

Considering the idea of maintaining a friendship with an ex might initially seem appealing, it is essential to take into account the potential drawbacks.

Here are three compelling reasons why staying friends with your ex may not be advisable, focusing on how it can impede your ability to move on and hinder personal growth.

Emotional Baggage Hinders Healing: Regular interaction with an ex can reopen emotional wounds and impede the healing process. Lingering feelings and emotional attachment may persist, making it challenging for both parties to move on and embrace new opportunities.

Constant reminders of the past can hinder the emotional closure necessary for personal growth.

New Relationships May Be Hindered: Staying friends with an ex could complicate future romantic relationships. Jealousy, insecurity, or discomfort may arise, affecting your ability to connect deeply with a new partner.

Your ex-partner may feel uneasy witnessing your new relationships, creating tension and hindering the establishment of healthy connections.

Maintaining distance provides space for both individuals to explore new connections without the shadows of the past.

Unrealistic Expectations Can Lead to Disappointment: Remaining friends with an ex introduces new challenges, and the transition may not be as seamless as hoped. Unresolved issues, unspoken expectations, and unmet emotional needs may persist, resulting in disappointment and frustration.

Recognizing that the friendship may not replicate its previous form is crucial to avoiding unrealistic expectations. Holding onto unrealistic expectations can hinder personal growth and the ability to cultivate authentic, new connections.

While the initial notion of staying friends with an ex may offer comfort, it is vital to weigh the potential consequences. Embracing personal growth and moving on from a past relationship requires a certain level of detachment.

Allowing oneself the space to heal and explore new connections opens the door to new possibilities and fosters a healthier emotional state.

  • Here are 9 tips to help you date a ‘mummy’s boy’

Here are 9 tips to help you date a ‘mummy’s boy’

Establishing a connection with mama’s boys can be challenging, but understanding and compromise can foster a meaningful relationship.

Here are tips for making it work if you’re in love with one.

    1. Understand his bond with his mother: Try to understand the nature of the relationship he has with his mother.

Is it healthy and supportive, or does it cross boundaries? Knowing this can help you navigate potential challenges.

    2. Communication: Encourage open and honest communication between you and your partner. Discuss your feelings, concerns, and expectations about the relationship, including how his relationship with his mother may impact your dynamic.

    3. Set boundaries: Establish healthy boundaries that respect both your relationship and his relationship with his mother. Discuss and agree on what is acceptable in terms of involvement and influence from family members.

    4. Be supportive: Instead of viewing his connection with his mother as a threat, be supportive and understanding. Show interest in his family and try to build a positive relationship with his mother.

    5. Encourage independence: Help your partner develop a sense of independence. Encourage him to make decisions on his own and not rely solely on his mother for guidance.

This can help him grow as an individual and strengthen your relationship.

    6. Include his mother: Include his mother in your plans occasionally, whether it’s family gatherings or casual dinners. Involving her can help create a sense of inclusion and reduce potential tension.

    7. Find common ground: Identify common interests and values between you and his mother. This can help foster a connection and create a more harmonious relationship between all parties involved.

    8. Avoid ultimatums: Refrain from issuing ultimatums, as they can strain the relationship. Instead, focus on compromise and finding solutions that work for both of you.

    9. Cultivate your relationship: Nurture your relationship with your partner. Focus on building a strong connection, shared goals, and mutual respect. A solid foundation can withstand external pressures more effectively.

  • Jersey Court rules £6.9m stolen assets to be returned to Nigeria

Jersey Court rules £6.9m stolen assets to be returned to Nigeria

Jersey’s Royal Court has ruled that stolen assets amounting to £6.9 million ($8.9 million) can be repatriated to Nigeria.

The decision follows a forfeiture notice served by Jersey’s Attorney General in November.

The court found that the funds, deposited in a Jersey bank account, were likely stolen by Nigerian government officials in 2014.

The money, initially disguised as government-sanctioned contracts for arms purchases during Boko Haram incursions from 2009 to 2015, is believed to have been diverted through foreign bank accounts and shell companies.

The return of these assets will be negotiated with the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Attorney General’s office emphasized that the recovered funds would be returned to the victims of the crime, showcasing the effectiveness of the 2018 Forfeiture Law in combating corruption and restoring misappropriated funds.
