  • I don’t eat food on Wednesdays, I only take in water – Usher on his healthy living journey

R&B singer Usher has revealed an unconventional aspect of his fitness and diet regimen.

In preparation for his upcoming “Past, Present, Future” tour scheduled to commence in August, Usher disclosed in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he abstains from consuming any meals on Wednesdays as part of his wellness routine.

“I fast, not for religious purposes, but it’s something my grandmother practiced,” he said. “I fast on Wednesdays. I typically try to start around 11 pm the previous day, then go the entire day on Wednesday just drinking water.”

“I sometimes eat eggs scrambled with cheese,” Usher said. “For the most part, I like them poached or over easy. But I don’t like to eat breakfast before I’ve worked out or done something physical: taking a walk, stretching or doing yoga, sitting in the sun, and raising my body’s natural heat levels. Then I eat.”

Usher disclosed that his morning ritual involves meditation and introspection before he embarks on breakfast or engages in any physical activities.

“I try to wake up early enough to have a moment of reflection. Some days I may grab a book and read to stimulate my mind. I may sit quietly and meditate,” the 45-year-old revealed. “One thing that is a frequent practice is yoga. It really does help to activate my organs and get my mind moving in the right direction – as Tony Robbins would say, ‘make my move,’ you know what I mean?”

The father of four shared that he opts for celery juice and a warm concoction of lemon, ginger, water, and cayenne pepper instead of coffee to kickstart his day.

Recalling his intense preparation for his highly praised Super Bowl halftime performance in February, the “My Boo” singer characterized it as the “most challenging 15 minutes” of his life. He emphasized the need for daily training and adhering to a low-carb diet during this period.

“Being able to go after [the halftime show] the way that I needed to do – vocally, energetically, spiritually and physically – it did call for me to consistently work out every day. I didn’t really have the time to do a lot of other things,” Usher shared. “I was remedying my body the night before and waking up the next day and eating a very regimented, low-carb diet.”

Usher detailed his regular gym sessions, which involve walking, knee activations, and reverse walking to target his quads, knees, and glutes. Additionally, he maintains his fitness by incorporating activities such as swimming, biking, and weightlifting.

  • How is Bawumia the right man for Ghana when he has failed for 8years – DJ Slim to Ken Agyapong

Ghanaian Disc Jockey, DJ Slim, has criticized the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, for endorsing the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid.

According to him, Ken Agyapong’s reputation as an honest politician, admonishing Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Bawumia, is problematic and finds it worrying in the political space.

The DJ noted that Dr. Bawumia has not been able to deliver on the expectations of Ghanaians as vice president, which makes his presidential bid questionable.

Speaking on his Street Watching show, DJ Slim questioned why Dr. Bawumia cannot reduce import duties now, as he has promised, but will wait to become president before taking such a step.

“The current vice president says if we vote for him to become president, he will reduce import duties. Chairman, what stops you from subsidizing it now? An honest man like Ken Agyapong could stand on a platform with a man who was given a task for eight years and failed to deliver, and you are telling us that this guy [Bawumia] is the right person for Ghana.

“What happened to your honesty? You contested him in the flagbearership race because you didn’t believe in his ideologies,” said DJ Slim.

It is worth noting that Ken Agyapong publicly endorsed Dr. Bawumia as the ideal candidate to lead Ghana, despite their previous rivalry.

Agyapong’s endorsement surprised many, given his previous stance, and left people stunned by the MP’s unexpected gesture.

However, Vice President Bawumia’s pledge to decrease import duties upon assuming the presidency has faced intense criticism from various quarters.

I almost got a BBL because my ex boyfriend liked women with big butt – Maame Animwaa

Media personality Maame Animwaa has revealed that her boyfriend’s preference for women with large buttocks influenced her decision to undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).

She explained that her ex-partner frequently sent her videos of women with big butts, expressing his admiration for that physique.

The GhOne TV presenter shared that her former boyfriend’s strong attraction to women with big backsides motivated her to consider getting a BBL to please him.

“When we first started dating, he was very interested in me. I was enjoying our time together and everything seemed great. However,as time went on, he would send me videos of women with big backsides, indicating his preference.

“Initially, it was playful banter, and I even enjoyed it. But then, he would stare at other women with big backsides when we were together, which made me start thinking about getting a BBL. Suddenly, I felt a strong desire to change my appearance. Eventually, our relationship didn’t work out,” she shared during an interview on the Toast show on GhOne TV.

Animwaa also noted that the woman her ex-boyfriend eventually married had a flat buttock, which brought her a sense of relief that she had not gone through with the BBL procedure.

Watch Nayas brandish glass bottle on live TV

In a heated discussion in the studio of Angel TV, host Nayas resorted to a shocking act to regain control over her unruly panelists.

The confrontation began when Pastor Benjamin Kessie shared his controversial views on burying Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ song, clashing with musician Lucky Mensah, who vehemently disagreed.

As the studio descended into a heated exchange, both Pastor Benjamin and Lucky Mensah ignored Nayas’ attempts to restore order.

With tensions escalating despite her efforts, Nayas grew visibly frustrated. She raised her voice, pleading with the panelists to maintain decorum, but to no avail.

In a moment of exasperation, she stood up, kicked off her shoes, and grabbed a wine bottle from the table, brandishing it in an attempt to silence the noisy guests.

Turning her attention to Pastor Benjamin, whose voice was the loudest, she confronted him directly. “Are you drunk?” she demanded incredulously.

“If we had known this would happen, we wouldn’t have invited you. I doubt your credentials as a man of God – you seem more like a demon trying to ruin my show. Only those with evil intentions would behave like this and not wish others well,” she accused, visibly out of breath from the intense exchange.

The pastor and several other panelists were shocked, and the pastor disagreed with her accusation of him trying to ruin her show.

I prayed to bury “One Corner” song because it was leading children astray – Pastor tells Patapaa

Founder of the True Faith Revival Ministry, Pastor Benjamin Kessie, has claimed credit for halting the sustained popularity and recognition of Patapaa’s song “One Corner” in the music industry.

Pastor Kessie stated that he took action against the song because he believed its dance moves were having a detrimental effect on the youth.

He described the dance as disturbing and recalled incidents where people performed it in dangerous places like gutters and roads.

“When ‘One Corner’ was released, even children were performing inappropriate dance moves to the song,” Pastor Kessie stated emphatically during a discussion with Patapaa on the Nayas Show on Angel TV. “The gyrations were unsettling to witness. I prayed against the song because I believed it was detrimental to our youth. I opposed it spiritually, and now its popularity has waned.”

In response, Patapaa challenged Pastor Kessie, urging him to seek forgiveness for his actions. Patapaa highlighted the song’s global impact, noting its inclusion in events like the Berlin festival as proof of its significance despite its brief dominance.

Patapaa’s “One Corner,” known for its controversial dance, initially garnered immense attention within African and global entertainment circles but experienced only a short-lived period of prominence.

The award ceremony will take place during the 6th Annual Banquet and Awards Gala at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Centre, recognizing Speaker Bagbin for his outstanding leadership contributions to Ghana’s political landscape.

“According to the Institute, the Speaker’s ‘distinguished career as a Ghanaian politician, serving as the Minister for Health, a seven-term Member of Parliament for the Nadowli West constituency, and your current role as the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana exemplify the leadership and dedication that Jagils holds in high esteem’ makes him a perfect candidate for the said prestigious award.

“The award is presented to leaders who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to civil and human rights, recognizing their dedication to advancing justice, peace, and freedom for workers and community members through their daily work,” parts of the post read.

In contrast, the Madina lawmaker will be honored with a lifetime achievement award, specifically the Presidential Service Award, for his advocacy in advancing human rights within Ghana and internationally.

  • Pressure mounts on GES to sanction Labone SHS housemaster for alleged student assault

Pressure mounts on GES to sanction Labone SHS housemaster for alleged student assault

The family of Abraham Sambou, a senior student at Labone Senior High School in Accra, has lodged a petition with the Ghana Education Service (GES) requesting an investigation into an alleged physical assault involving their child.

According to reports, the student was purportedly slapped by the senior housemaster, Eric Agyemang, also known as ‘Power,’ following a false accusation made by the school prefect regarding the use of a mobile phone.

In the petition obtained by the media, Sambou was purportedly confined without sustenance or hydration and subsequently evicted from the boarding facility without proper procedures, compelling him to commute from Kasoa to Accra for his studies.

“This wrongful undocumented expulsion without recourse to due process poses a significant problem to the entire family since Master Sambou would have to commute daily from Kasoa in the Central Region to Labone, Accra.

“The family expressed deep concerned about the mistreatment of our ward, Master Samboum, and the conduct of the school authorities, particularly Mr. Agyeman, who has admitted to slapping this vulnerable final year student – a student who needs all the psychological help he can get as the WASSCE approaches,” portions of the petition said.

The family expressed concern over the mistreatment and the senior housemaster’s conduct, which was reportedly supported by the headmistress, Rejoice Acorlor.

The family has called for a full investigation, the revocation of Sambou’s expulsion, and accountability for the involved school officials.

“Mr. Agyemang justified his actions by claiming Master Sambou lied about his father’s availability when asked to provide his father’s phone number. Later, it was confirmed that Master Sambou’s father was indeed unavailable as the call was eventually answered by the boy’s mother.

“When we visited the school to address the issue, Mr. Agyemang admitted to slapping Master Sambou. The headmistress, Mrs Rejoice Acorlor, brazenly supported Mr. Agyemang’s actions and stated that she would have acted even more harshly by slapping my ward and hitting him with her shoes. She also mentioned that if the incident had occurred before the resignation for the WASSCE, she would have ensured Master Sambou was not registered for the exam,” the petition added.

Moreover, they expressed apprehensions regarding a photograph displayed on Agyemang’s WhatsApp profile, depicting him brandishing a firearm, which raised doubts about his appropriateness as a role model for students.

  • Minerals Commission denies Lands Minister’s alleged grants of mining concessions to foreigners

Minerals Commission denies Lands Minister’s alleged grants of mining concessions to foreigners

The Minerals Commission has rejected claims put forth by the Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana, against the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Jinapor, Sulemana accused Jinapor of granting mining concessions to foreign entities without adequate consultation.

In a press release issued on Monday, June 24, the Commission dismissed these allegations as groundless and unsubstantiated, arguing that such accusations should not be made by a legislator.

According to the Commission, as per the Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) and the Minerals and Mining (Licensing) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2176), no mineral rights can be awarded without consulting the relevant stakeholders affected by the mining operations.

Upon receipt of a mineral rights application, the Commission notifies the public through a Gazette notice and serves copies to pertinent landowners, chiefs, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as other interested parties, allowing them to voice any concerns.

The Commission called on the public to disregard the inaccurate claims made by the MP.

Yusif Sulemana had accused Minister Jinapor and the Minerals Commission of sidestepping proper consultation procedures, which he alleged resulted in increased tensions in the Bole-Bamboi constituency. He also claimed that some NPP executives were assaulted by soldiers guarding the mining sites.

“It is an issue that we are all worried about. It’s on record that from the beginning of our constituency, that is Bamboi, and to the end of it, has plenty of mineral companies on both the right and left sides of the road and so of course, we have some galamsey activities going on there.”

“Unfortunately, from February to date, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has allocated the lands to over 7 large scale miners and the problem was that there was no proper stakeholder consultations. And so the youth are there and they will see heavy equipment coming to take over what they are doing and that is where the clash is coming from,” he alleged.

Yet, the Minerals Commission’s declaration reaffirmed its dedication to adhering to legal and regulatory protocols when awarding mineral rights, guaranteeing that all pertinent stakeholders are consulted and afforded the chance to express their apprehensions.

“The attention of the Minerals Commission (“the Commission”) has been drawn to publications in a section of the media, attributed to the Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Yusif Sulemana, accusing the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission of granting mining concessions to foreigners without proper consultations. The said accusations, claims and/or allegations are false, baseless and unfounded.”

“The Commission wishes to state, categorically, that in accordance with the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) and the Minerals and Mining (Licensing) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2176), no mineral right is granted without consultation with the relevant persons and institutions to be affected by the mineral operation.”

“Upon receipt of an application for a mineral right, notice of the application is published in the Gazette, and copies served on the relevant landowner, Chief, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDA), as well as other interested groups and stakeholders, to enable them to raise any concerns they may have,” an excerpt of the statement said.

  • Be cautious about potential election manipulation long before election day – KSM tells EC

Be cautious about potential election manipulation long before election day – KSM tells EC

Renowned broadcaster Kweku Sintim-Misa (KSM) has warned against potential efforts to manipulate the forthcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

In his view, election manipulation typically happens well in advance of the actual voting day, contrary to popular belief that it occurs solely on the election day.

During the recent episode of his TalkShop program, KSM emphasized that election rigging could be orchestrated by various entities, including both incumbent and opposition political factions.

He consequently urged the leadership of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to enact safeguards to forestall any attempts at rigging.

“Rigging doesn’t happen on the day of the election. If you are waiting for election rigging on the actual election day, you have waited too long. Rigging begins long before the elections. And it can be perpetrated by anyone. It can come from the government, or even from the opposition, who may rig elections in their strongholds.

“So, when I mention rigging, I don’t want those in government to assume I’m only referring to them – I’m simply emphasizing the importance of a free and fair process. To the office of the electoral commissioner, please, everything depends on you now. You hold the future of Ghana in your hands,” he said.

The seasoned broadcaster raised alarm over recent developments within the commission, citing concerns such as reports of missing election equipment.

He called upon the commission to promptly resolve any election-related matters, regardless of their perceived insignificance, to foster public trust.

“Recently, there have been too many small incidents. As the Electoral Commission, whatever the issue, no matter how insignificant it may sound, resolve it. You don’t want people to suspect irregularities. For instance, there are reports of missing BVD machines. Missing from the Electoral Commission’s office. How could the Electoral Commission not have CCTV cameras monitoring these machines, which are now missing?

“This is what I’m referring to. Are these machines truly missing? If so, then people have the right to ask questions.”

Residents severely beat, cuts off ears of 17-year old suspected in Ga South Municipality

A 17-year-old individual suspected of robbery, identified as Joel Nyarko, has been beaten severely for allegedly engaging in a robbery attempt at Domeabra-Police Tent opposite the Sky Roofing System in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The incident occurred on Monday, June 24, 2024, at approximately 4:30 AM.

Reports gathered by Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan suggest that the suspect, known as a “Gameboy” (Fraudster), resides in Swedru Dwenwoho, Agona West District, Central Region, but frequently visits his uncle in Kasoa.

Allegedly, the suspect, accompanied by a group of armed robbers in a vehicle, attempted to carry out a robbery in the community but was noticed and chased away.

However, luck was not on the suspect’s side, and he was left behind as the others fled.

Enraged youth from the town then attacked the suspect, resulting in severe injuries, including a broken left foot.

After the beating, the suspect was transported from the community to the roadside in a wheelbarrow while unclothed.

An eyewitness named CD reported that after the suspect was left naked, an Okada rider passing by made a remark expressing frustration with accusations against Okada riders for theft. Subsequently, the Okada rider cut off the suspect’s right ear.

However, police interrogation of the suspect contradicts the claims made by residents.

The suspect, in pain, explained that he was present to carry out an activity early in the morning when a group of individuals suddenly attacked him, robbing him of his belongings, including an iPhone, Ghanaian Cedis, US Dollars, and other accessories.

He was later taken to Amanfrom Hospital for treatment, and his father has been contacted to aid in further investigation.

  • BoG needs recapitalization for violating guidelines that caused banking sector crises – Economist

BoG needs recapitalization for violating guidelines that caused banking sector crises – Economist

Executive Director of Revenue Mobilisation Africa, Geoffrey Kabutey Ocansey, expressed the view that the Bank of Ghana might require recapitalization similar to the collapsed banks due to mismanagement of affairs.

The economist contended that the central bank has recently exhibited poor management, resulting in losses over the past couple of years.

For the financial year ending in 2023, the BoG reported a loss of GH¢10.5 billion.

This loss was attributed to a significant increase in total interest expenses on open market operations by the Central Bank, amounting to GH¢6.7 billion during the review period.

The Bank clarified that the rise in expenses was essential to manage the economy’s excess liquidity and to support the disinflation process as part of a broader macroeconomic adjustment program.

As of December 31, 2023, the Bank of Ghana and its subsidiaries had total liabilities exceeding total assets by GH¢65.36 billion.

Total operating expenses for 2023 amounted to GH¢19.2 billion, representing a significant decrease from the GH¢66.9 billion recorded in 2022.

In August of the preceding year, the BoG defended its new $250 million headquarters.

In response, Geoffrey Kabutey Ocansey highlighted that the circumstances leading to the central bank supervising the collapse of several financial institutions mirror those currently affecting them.

During an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that one of the primary reasons for the BoG’s intervention in collapsing the banks was poor governance and a breach of sector guidelines.

He cautioned that failure to address these losses could have adverse effects on the economy, potentially impacting monetary policy and endangering the central bank’s independence and reputation.

“If care is not taken, the Bank of Ghana would have to be recapitalized based on the same reasons it used in collapsing the banks. The Bank of Ghana advised the government to collapse banks and other financial institutions. But when you evaluate the work of the BoG currently, you will discover that they are worse than the banks that collapsed. The bank would have to be recapitalized based on the same principles it used in the collapse of the other banks,” he told host Kwabena Agyapong.

He pointed out that as the bank couldn’t finance the government’s budget or provide loans to it, the government has turned to other banks, leading to a rise in Treasury rates and heightened interest in loans for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

  • GUTA challenges GRA’s statement on customs duties calculation

GUTA challenges GRA’s statement on customs duties calculation

The Ghana Union of Traders (GUTA) has challenged a statement from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) that customs duties are not calculated in foreign currency.

Contrary to the GRA’s assertion, GUTA claims the opposite is true.

In May of this year, the GRA addressed media reports about customs duties and import taxes on vehicles, stating clearly that these duties are not calculated in foreign currencies.

The GRA explained that duties and taxes on imported vehicles are based on the vehicles’ value in their country of origin, which includes Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) charges, quoted in international convertible currencies like dollars, euros, and pounds sterling.

The GRA further noted that these charges are converted into Ghana cedis using the prevailing Bank of Ghana exchange rate before calculating duties and taxes in accordance with the Customs Act 2015 (Act 891).

In response, GUTA Welfare Officer Benjamin Yeboah maintained that the Ghana Revenue Authority does indeed calculate import duties in dollars and then provides the cedi equivalent for payment.

“They cannot quote in the cedi. You will pay in cedis, but they use the dollar index to calculate. It has always been like that,” he said.

Additionally, he mentioned that GUTA is currently consulting with the government to determine the best approach to manage the depreciation of the Ghana cedi.

Mr. Yeboah noted that the weakening cedi is impacting their operations, and GUTA is urging the government to take immediate action to address the issue.

“We’re still dealing with the cedi depreciation. We are hopeful that the authorities will take immediate action to address the issue. The government has informed us that the Cocoa Syndicated Loan, the third tranche of the IMF Loan, is on its way, and we hope that it will help address the challenges and rebuild our economy,” he explained.

He also pointed out that the cost of goods is likely to rise, particularly when duties are calculated in dollars and subsequently paid in their cedi equivalent.

  • 2% vaccine production in Africa to increase to 60% by 2040 – France’s Emmanuel Macron

2% vaccine production in Africa to increase to 60% by 2040 – France’s Emmanuel Macron

African leaders have teamed up with Europe and Western countries to push for a comprehensive strategic partnership to a new height, this time in the health sector.

At this crucial time of rising geopolitical tensions, the leaders reached an agreement to accelerate the rollout of vaccines in Africa, after the coronavirus pandemic exposed gaping inequalities in accessing them from advanced countries.

Many African countries learned invaluable lessons, witnessed discriminatory supplies and still have excellent memory of searching for vaccines during coronavirus pandemic 2019.

At a Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation held in Paris, France, in June 2024, the launch of the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA) now provided financial incentives to vaccine manufacturers to step up production locally in Africa, which faces numerous health crises including rising cholera outbreaks.

“Africa produces only 2% of the vaccines it uses, and the goal that we have set is that by 2040 the production is increased to reach 60%,” French President Emmanuel Macron said at the opening of the summit. “France and Europe have supported this ambition since 2021 with 1.2 billion euros (allocated), and we need to accelerate it.”

Macron announced at the summit that three-quarters of the funding will come from Europe. The summit, attended by leaders from Botswana, Rwanda, Senegal, Ghana, and various ministers, health organizations, and pharmaceutical firms, discussed this initiative.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in a video message, revealed that Germany will contribute $318 billion to the scheme. France will provide $100 million, and the UK $60 million. Other donors include the United States, Canada, Norway, Japan, and the Gates Foundation.

Reports indicate that GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, will make up to $1 billion available over the next decade. This funding aims to boost Africa’s vaccine manufacturing capabilities, improve global vaccine markets, and enhance preparedness and response to pandemics and outbreaks such as HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, and COVID-19.

The Geneva-based alliance states that the accelerator will fund African manufacturers once they meet supply and regulatory milestones, leveraging market forces to reduce prices and stimulate upstream investment.

Officials noted that the project will also address issues like technology transfer, which some Western countries with strong pharmaceutical industries have resisted. Additionally, the initiative will explore the creation of an African medicines agency and address regulatory challenges posed by Africa’s diverse legal systems.

The scheme “could become a catalyst for promoting the pharmaceutical industry in Africa and fostering collaboration between member states”, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Moussa Faki Mahamat, told the summit. Africa imports “99 percent of its vaccines at an exorbitant cost”, he added.

The new scheme aims to move vaccine production to Africa to give the continent more sovereignty — and avoid history repeating. Macron called for cholera to be “consigned to the past” and noted that outbreaks were now affecting “half of Africa”. The expectation was that a production chain for cholera vaccines be launched in Africa by the South African biopharmaceutical firm Biovac.

At the Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation forum, Gavi announced it is seeking to raise $9 billion to fund its vaccine programmes from 2036 to 2030. The United States will contribute $1.58 billion to the Gavi effort, first lady Jill Biden said in a video message, with more commitments later expected. GAVI chair Jose Manuel Barroso said that “one million children vaccinated since 2000 is an incredible achievement”.

According to the European Commission, the AVMA funds will purchase more than 800 million vaccine doses produced in Africa over the next decade. “The initiative will diversify the set of global vaccine suppliers with a target of at least four African vaccine manufacturers entering the market in a sustainable way,” the Commission said.

Many parts of Africa have recently seen deadly outbreaks of cholera, which has highlighted the need for more local vaccine producers. Only one firm in the world — South Korea’s EuBiologics — makes the cheap and effective oral vaccine doses for the deadly disease. Thanks to the new money, “we are sure that within two years, Africa will be producing the cholera vaccine,” said Jean Kaseya, head of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

The AVMA is a newly established financial mechanism set to provide nearly €1 billion over the next ten years to support African vaccine manufacturers. It was officially launched at a global forum co-hosted by France, the African Union, and the international vaccine organization GAVI.

These new funds aim to help the African Union achieve its goal of producing at least 60 percent of the continent’s required vaccine doses by 2040, according to GAVI. The African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA) is an initiative developed by GAVI and the Centre for African Disease Prevention and Control (CDC-Africa), based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

  • Namibian court rules laws banning gay sex unconstitutional

Namibian court rules laws banning gay sex unconstitutional

Two colonial-era laws banning same-sex acts between men have been ruled unconstitutional by a High court in Namibia.

Namibia, first colonised by Germany, inherited the laws when it gained independence from South Africa in 1990, though same-sex acts between men were initially criminalised under colonial rule.

Namibian activist Friedel Dausab took the matter to court with the support of British-based non-governmental organisation Human Dignity Trust to have the laws struck out and succeeded.

Rights campaigners say that, while convictions under the laws on “sodomy” and “unnatural sexual offences” were relatively rare in Namibia, they have perpetuated discrimination against the LGBTQ community and made gay men live in fear of arrest.

Meanwhile, the Namibian government has 21 days beginning, Friday, June 21, 2024, to appeal the court’s ruling.
Presently, no laws exist prohibiting sex between women in Namibia.

Marrying someone of the same sex is still illegal in the southern African nation.

But if a same-sex couple weds abroad and one of them is not a Namibian citizen, their union is legally recognised.

  • Napo debunks “Ghana in energy crisis” report

Napo debunks “Ghana in energy crisis” report

Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, demonstrated his expertise in addressing Ghana’s energy challenges by responding to questions from Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) regarding recent power rationing and outages experienced in some parts of the country.

Dr. Prempeh, known affectionately as Napo, assured lawmakers during a plenary session that his management of the energy sector had prevented a crisis necessitating load-shedding due to power cuts.

He explained that the recent power outages were not indicative of a crisis but rather a result of unforeseen circumstances, such as rapid population growth and increased commercial activities.

For instance, Dr. Prempeh highlighted the transformation of areas like East Legon from residential to commercial zones, straining the existing power infrastructure.

This surge in demand, coupled with an unexpected gas leak at Cen Power causing an immediate power loss of 340 Mega Watts, and maintenance at the Amandi Power Plant, contributed to the outages. Additionally, GRIDCo requested emergency outages in some areas, further complicating the situation.

These events were unanticipated, preventing the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from implementing a scheduled load-shedding program, he emphasized.

“Mr. Speaker, a myriad of factors caused power outages in different parts of the country at different times. The ECG couldn’t have announced a load-shedding program because most incidents were unplanned,” he noted.

Dr. Prempeh addressed an urgent query from Rockson-Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor, the NDC MP for South Dayi, acting on behalf of the absent NDC MP for Tamale North, Alhassan S. Suhuyini. Dafeamekpor asked whether the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had implemented load-shedding and, if not, what had caused the power outages.

Despite offering clarification, some Minority MPs sought further details on the current power situation, noting that the original inquiry pertained to events two months earlier.

Dr. Prempeh reiterated that the ECG has not implemented a scheduled load-shedding program but is committed to addressing any issues to ensure stable power distribution.

Restore GN Bank’s license! – Dr. Nduom tells BoG Governor

The Global Chairman of Groupe Nduom and former owner of GN Bank, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has fervently urged the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, to review fresh evidence and restore GN Bank’s banking license.

Dr. Nduom asserts that GN Bank is prepared to resume full operations and implores the central bank to preserve the bank’s assets in optimal condition.

He is confident in the bank’s assets’ viability and potential for success if the BoG reinstates its license.

“So, when people ask what we want, all that we’re saying is to recognize that indeed there was more money there than was said to be—just proof. Recognize the proof. Someone has said somewhere, ‘give me new facts and I will change my mind.’ We have given and continue to give new facts to the BoG.

“All that we’re asking the Governor, Dr. Addison, is to take a look at the new facts, recognize them for what they are, and give us back our license, give us back our assets. Make sure the assets are in good condition, and let’s move on.

“Even in the reclassified state as a savings and loans company, we are prepared to start working. And we know once all the accounting is done, once the funds start coming in, everybody will realize that the 305-branch network of GN Savings deserves to become a universal bank—GN Bank again,” Dr. Nduom explained in a video shared on Facebook.

To demonstrate GN Bank’s readiness for full operation, he outlined the criteria for a savings and loans company to function in Ghana, affirming that his bank possesses the capability to meet all these requirements.

He explained, “Even the GH¢30.3 million that the finance ministry erroneously told the BoG that Groupe Nduom companies had. Even if we took that money and paid it, which they still haven’t paid. If they paid us and we paid it into GN Savings, that would have given us the capital required to continue as a savings and loans company. But we said in our books, GH¢2 million.

“In addition, we had properties and other related buildings, including the many branch buildings put up by some of our companies. We said we would give it to the organization to shore up its capital.

“It was all rejected, and these are the same buildings that BoG’s appointed receiver went around hurriedly to put locks on the gates and buildings and walked away. They left them to rot. All of those things are still there.”

In 2017, the Bank of Ghana’s endeavors to consolidate the banking sector resulted in the withdrawal of licenses from numerous financial institutions, among them GN Bank.

The accuser, Simon Nyarko, also a miner from Tarkwa – Akyempim, reported to authorities that he and Emmanuel Opoku, a resident of New Edubiase, have conducted business together for the past two years.

As stated by the complainant in a police report seen by MyNewsGh.com, both departed from Tarkwa-Akyempim on a motorcycle and halted at Dunkwa Junction to vend a portion of gold, netting GH¢98,000.00 from the transaction.

NABCO trainees call out Bawumia to release outstanding arrears

The Coalition of NABCO Trainees has reminded Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of a pledge he made during his campaign tour of the Volta Region.

In a statement released on Monday, June 24, 2024, the group highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to pay the 9-month arrears of vulnerable former NABCO trainees, made during his campaign tour.

The group expressed disappointment over the lack of action and ensuing silence in the weeks following the promise.

Consequently, they are calling on Dr. Bawumia to fulfill the commitment made to their members.

It emphasized that the “broken promises and neglect are staggering,” thus it will no longer “remain silent on this matter.”

“Unpaid arrears and the unfulfilled promise to mechanize the scheme have left us struggling to survive in the grim economic outlook under your leadership,” the coalition indicated.

It therefore urged Dr. Bawumia to honour his promise and release their “outstanding arrears” without “further delay.”

The coalition further insisted on the prompt settlement of the outstanding arrears.

  • Akufo-Addo directs disbursement of GHS1.5bn bailout to victims of banking sector clean-up

Akufo-Addo directs disbursement of GHS1.5bn bailout to victims of banking sector clean-up

President Akufo-Addo has directed the Finance Ministry to allocate ¢1.5 billion to aid customers impacted by the banking sector’s clean-up initiative.

Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam conveyed this instruction during a UK Town Hall meeting over the weekend.

He stressed that the President’s mandate requires the disbursement to be finalized between the present time and October.

Dr. Adam reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of the Ghanaian populace, clarifying that individuals bear responsibility for their investment choices, not the government.

“Ideally, government should not be held responsible for the investment decisions of individuals, but this government is so caring.

“Mistakes were made and people were not well-informed, and they didn’t know who to consult to be advised, but we also know that the people who are affected are suffering, and we have heard that some people have died and others had to commit suicide.”

“This government is so caring that in the first place, we granted some bailout to all the affected and I want to tell you again that the President has directed that we do another bailout.

“So between now and October, we will release 1.5 billion Ghana Cedis to the affected people,” he said.

Dr. Amin Adam has also revealed the successful completion of Ghana’s debt restructuring program with its official creditors.

The Member of Parliament for Karaga emphasized that the government has successfully restructured its debt of $5.1 billion with these creditors, and has also finalized the restructuring of $13.1 billion with Eurobond holders.

Govt experiences slight oversubscription in t-bills, yields on 182-day and 364-day bills decline

The government experienced a slight oversubscription of GH¢3.60 billion in the treasury bills auction.

As per the Bank of Ghana’s auction report, there was a 1.38% oversubscription in the T-bills sale.

Liquidity in the money market has remained constrained for a considerable period.

Investor interest in the 91-Day bill outweighed that in other financial instruments, with GH¢2.761 billion (76.61%) being allocated to the 3-month instrument, matching the bids tendered.

All bids totaling GH¢660.62 million for the 182-Day bill were accepted, as were those for the 364-Day Bill, totaling GH¢182.4 million.

However, there were mixed developments in the yield curve, with slight fluctuations in interest rates:

    • The yield on the 91-Day Bill rose slightly to 24.86% from 24.85% the previous week.
    • The yield on the 182-Day Bill decreased by 2.0 basis points to 26.80%.

Debt restructuring negotiations with creditors has officially come to an end – Amin Adam

Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has declared the successful conclusion of Ghana’s debt restructuring program with its official creditors.

The Member of Parliament for Karaga stated that the government has restructured $5.1 billion in debt with these creditors and has also finalized the restructuring of $13.1 billion with Eurobond holders.

Speaking at a UK Town Hall meeting, Dr. Amin Adam emphasized that these measures have led to savings of $8 billion for the country.

“Last two weeks, we concluded negotiations with the official creditors, and we have agreed to restructure 5.1 billion dollars, I am telling you that the government is good in negotiations and of this amount, we are going to make savings of $2 billion.”

“As I speak to you, tomorrow morning, there will be an announcement that we have also concluded our negotiations with the Eurobond Holders of $3.1 billion and ladies and gentlemen when we announce it, please read the details. We have negotiated a good deal for Ghana and that is $8 billion,” he said.

So between now and October, we will release ¢1.5 billion to the affected people.”

The government recently finalized a debt restructuring agreement with bilateral creditors, securing deferred interest payments and extending the maturity date.

In order to meet its IMF target, Ghana’s $77 billion economy aims to reduce debt to 55% of gross domestic product by 2028, compared to the projected burden of 109% before the restructuring began.

However, the current terms with bondholders would result in debt levels slightly exceeding the target.

Ghana’s economy outperformed IMF expectations, growing at 2.9% in 2023 compared to the initial target of 1.5%. Finance Minister Adam noted that a revised Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA) would accommodate the bondholder agreement.

Ghana initiated debt restructuring efforts over a year ago as part of an arrangement with the International Monetary Fund, reaching a preliminary agreement with bilateral creditors in January to renegotiate $5.4 billion of obligations under the Group of 20 Common Framework for Debt Treatment.

This agreement paved the way for the restructuring of Eurobond debt.

We will build a bigger, better and more glorious church – Pastor Chris reacts to fire incident

The General Overseer of Christ Embassy Church, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has reacted to the fire outbreak that hit his church’s headquarters today.

For Pastor Oyakhilome, it was not an accident but a catalyst for greater things.

He recalled that during the 2021 bombing at Ikeja Cantonment, the church building shook so much that he feared it would collapse, but it remained standing.

The pastor mentioned that they had engineers assess the situation, and it was confirmed that the building was stable.

Pastor Chris expressed that he is not disheartened by the incident, and he and his congregants will build a larger church to glorify God.

“Nothing happens in the life of a child of God by accident. During the 2001 Ikeja Cantonment bombing incident, the building vibrated so much, and we thought it was going to collapse. I thought to myself that if it collapsed, I was going to build a bigger, better one. At the end of the day, it didn’t collapse, and we called the engineers to see if there was any need to bring it down and rebuild, but it was still okay.

“Now that this has happened, we will build a bigger, better, and more glorious one, and the devil will lick his wounds,” he said during a live Sunday service at the church’s campground, Asese, monitored by Vanguard Newspaper in Nigeria.

This follows a fire that swept through the Christ Embassy Church Headquarters in Ikeja’s Oregun District, Lagos State, as reported by Channels Television, a Nigerian media outlet.

Eyewitnesses confirmed the incident, and multiple social media videos showed the massive edifice being destroyed by fire.

The fire broke out early Sunday, causing significant damage to the church property and sending shock waves throughout the community and beyond.

The Lagos Fire Service was on the scene to manage the situation, and no lives were reported lost.

Kwaku Manu criticizes Yaw Sarpong’s children for remaining silent while their father faces public disgrace

Ghanaian actor Kwaku Manu voiced his dismay regarding the response of gospel musician Yaw Sarpong’s children to the controversies surrounding his illness.

Manu expressed disappointment, expecting Sarpong’s children to display affection and care for their father during this difficult time.

Even if the veteran gospel artiste didn’t meet their expectations in terms of upbringing or material provision, Manu believes the children should have supported him.

During an Instagram live session, Manu criticized Sarpong’s children for remaining silent while their father faced public disgrace, deeming their inaction disappointing.

“Yaw Sarpong’s children have made a big mistake; it means you don’t know the impact of your father in this country. Maybe you expected your father to build mansions for you before giving him the needed respect.

“You are allowing your father to be embarrassed in his sickness. As mature people, you should know how to conduct yourselves in these troubling times. I am very disappointed in the children,” he said in Twi.

Regarding Yaw Sarpong’s wife, the actor said, “For the wife, I will deal with her later. You don’t make such remarks on radio.”

This comes after an interview where Yaw Sarpong’s wife, Adwoa Penamang, revealed to Auntie Naa the mistreatment and neglect she has faced from the family since her husband fell ill.

She shared her distress over her husband’s family preferring Maame Tiwaa’s care for Yaw Sarpong, neglecting her in the process.

Some members of the public criticized the interview as unnecessary and inappropriate.

  • Sharp rise in pediatric foot injuries, concerned group calls for urgent measures

Sharp rise in pediatric foot injuries, concerned group calls for urgent measures

A joint study conducted by The CARROT Co. and doctors from the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics at Kumasi’s Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) highlights the urgent need to address pediatric foot injuries.

Supported by The Sandbox Project based in Canada, the study reveals that 3 to 4 out of every 100 children in Ghana die from motor vehicle accidents.

Boys aged 5 to 9 face a higher risk of foot injuries and potential limb amputations compared to girls.

A stakeholder review meeting was convened on Thursday, June 20, to present the study’s findings.

Dr. Vincent Ativor, a Consultant and Orthopaedic Surgeon at KATH, expressed concerns over financial constraints hindering Ghanaians from accessing necessary care for pediatric foot injuries.

The study aims to identify solutions and prevent amputations resulting from pediatric foot injuries.

“The project is on looking at paediatric fractures or paediatric musculoskeletal injuries. We know that children are vulnerable and they get injured easily as compared to adults. They play around, they ran across major roads and get knocked down by vehicles. They climb objects and fall and they get hurt through playing sports.

“And we have seen that there has been an increasing trend of children involved in injuries and most importantly, foot and ankle injuries which are very severe with some of them resulting in amputation of the limbs or severe disabilities that limit children in playing and doing other activities. We had to strategise to see how we can address some challenges that we have identified during our study to evaluate the pattern of injury and also the incidence of injuries affected the foot.”

Dr. Ativor recommended promoting the use of proper footwear to reduce the risk of foot avulsion fractures by 49%, emphasizing its importance in minimizing fractures and infections.

Taye Balogun, the Executive Director of The CARROT Co., thanked The Sandbox Project for their significant support in conducting the study.

Taye also revealed that the project has been ongoing for the past three years, expressing concern over the emotional distress parents endure witnessing their children undergo limb amputations.

“The Sandbox Project is an initiative by Dr. K. Kellie Leitch who is an experienced Orthopedic doctor and we partnered with them because some Ghanaian doctors had gone to study in Canada and researched the paediatric foot injuries situation in Ghana and it was very alarming so we decided not to let it go under the carpet and needed to make the people aware and that was when we decided to find ways of engaging the public on the issue.

“We have been on this project for three years and I have been to the hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and I have been in the theatre with the surgeon and he operated about 10 people in 9 hours. I saw parents whose children walked into the hospital with two legs and came out with one and that is devastating and it becomes an obligation for some form of action to be taken,” he said.

Participants from elementary schools, youth-led groups, civil society, and the media engaged in group discussions and tasks, pledging their commitment to advocating for the prevention of pediatric foot injuries.

The CARROT Co. comprises pan-African artists, scholars, and practitioners dedicated to supporting the development sector through creative communication, connecting the general populace with policymakers.

CARROT Co. aims to simplify policies, amplify messages, and honor African lives through storytelling, focusing on art, culture, and indigenous knowledge.

How I met and helped Tiwa from 1981 – Yaw Sarpong shares in an old video

Amid recent accusations, an old interview resurfaced featuring Yaw Sarpong discussing his relationship with fellow musician Maame Tiwaa.

Afia Schwarzenegger posted the video on Instagram, where Sarpong reminisced about their collaboration since 1981.

He praised Tiwaa’s significant support and described their relationship as very close.

Sarpong clarified that misconceptions about their closeness, despite Tiwaa not being his wife, have resulted in baseless accusations of infidelity.

“If we start discussing Tiwaa, this programme won’t end. I met her at a funeral in 1978 and talked about my future group ‘Daakye,’ inviting her to join. She agreed, but we lost contact until 1981 when I was recording my first album. Tiwaa had moved from Atonsu, so I found her in a village and brought her into my singing team.

“Since then, we’ve worked together, but there are rumours that I divorced my wife to date her. I was married before Tiwaa joined me. People don’t understand our relationship, but it’s always been this way. I don’t know anyone who supports me more than Tiwaa; she’s been there for me in everything,” Sarpong stated.

The video attracted attention following Sarpong’s wife expressing disappointment over the family’s choice to have Tiwaa care for her husband instead of herself.

A tense confrontation between Sarpong’s wife and Tiwaa unfolded on Oyerepa FM during an interview regarding the musician’s health.

Team Eternity’s team and mine are on the brink of solving ‘Defe Defe’ copyright issues – Kwame Mickey

Executive producer of Hallelujah Voices, Kwame Mickey, has refuted claims of suing Team Eternity for profit.

His goal is to safeguard his property and uphold legal integrity.

Mickey, earning $1,500 monthly, dismisses allegations as unfounded.

Unfazed by public criticism, he remains committed to addressing the matter appropriately.

“I don’t know why people are castigating me. I even heard a commentary that because I am broke, I am using forceful means to get money. By God’s grace, even if I don’t work again, what I have gained already can cater for me till I die. Every month I earn at least $1,500. I can stay at home and take that money every month,” he said on UTV’s United Showbiz.

The music producer mentioned that his legal team and Team Eternity’s are close to a friendly resolution.

He suggested that compensation could be arranged for the copyright infringement.

    Background

Mickey asserted that Team Eternity Ghana had used the ‘Defe Defe’ phrase without permission in their latest track.

Debate arises over ownership of ‘Defe Defe,’ with some disputing its exclusivity to Hallelujah Voices, while others note lyrical parallels between the songs.

Hallelujah Voices’ version includes the line “Manhyia Nyame a anka ɔbonsam ayɛ me defe defe,” while Team Eternity’s rendition goes “Manhyia Nyame a anka y’ayɛ me defe defe.”

The disagreement sparked discussions on copyright regulations and the importance of artists seeking permission before incorporating elements from others’ works into their own creations.

Amoako Belo alleges copyright infringement in Tiwa Savage’s “Kilamanjaro” song

The music industry’s complexity can lead to legal issues for the uninformed or careless.

A recent dispute involving Tiwa Savage and Amoako Belo has emerged.

The controversy arose from similarities in lyrics between Tiwa Savage’s song and Amoako Belo’s earlier work, “Kilimanjaro.”

Amoako Belo alleges copyright infringement by Tiwa Savage in her song “Kilamanjaro.”

He wrote: “Who is that Kilimanjaro singer? If I start right now them go say I be wicked. I go strike her YouTube page down and sue her. What is the difference between the two songs? Somebody tell her to report and do the needful. That’s all.”

Social media debates ensued over the ownership of the term “Kilimanjaro.”

Acknowledging the resulting controversies, Auntie Naa expressed a preference for handling such matters privately to prevent further issues, particularly in light of recent events.

In a post on X by Oyerepa FM/TV, Auntie Naa said, “I wanted to address it [interview with Yaw Sarpong’s wife] privately.”

My restaurant suffered losses after the NPP tagged it NDC – Akofa Edjeani

Actress and entrepreneur Akofa Edjeani has revealed that she had to shut down her restaurant.

She explained that it was labeled as an NDC-affiliated establishment, resulting in a loss of clientele.

Adding to her concerns, all her attempts to cater for boards and organizations were turned down due to her perceived association with the opposition NDC.

She couldn’t understand why she was being penalized, as she had never publicly declared her support for any political party.

Akorfa expressed her inclination to fully endorse a political party instead.

“I closed it down. Well, let’s say I was tired. I started running at a loss, so I decided to close it. I wasn’t getting enough. You know, after COVID, everything went down. Everything got messed up. I got tagged that my place was an NDC place.

“If you send proposals to the board that you want to serve them food, they say no, this is an NDC person. I don’t know where I said I’m an NDC person. I’ve been neutral for a very long time. Afia Schwarzenegger condemns Auntie Naa for dragging Yaw Sarpong on her program

Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger has condemned Auntie Naa, the host of the Oyerepa Afutuo show, for conducting an interview with Yaw Sarpong’s wife, the ailing gospel musician.

She argued that because the musician is not in a stable mental state to address the concerns and allegations raised by his wife, it was unwise for the media personality to proceed with the interview.

Schwarzenegger suggested that, given the sensitivity of the situation, Auntie Naa should have conducted the interview privately to protect the musician’s reputation, rather than seeking public attention.

She rebuked Auntie Naa for not properly vetting and verifying the allegations made by Yaw Sarpong’s wife before airing the interview.

“Auntie Naa and her stupid team should bow their heads in shame!! No verification, poor production… just running for the trends, at the expense of two brands. Really? Dragging a legend like Yaw Sarpong on your cheap program was below the belt, especially when he’s not in the mental state to defend himself.

“Even in court, some cases, especially divorce cases, are heard in chambers. You people will hear paaa, just wait till I wake up,” she wrote on her Instagram page.

  • I refused Davido’s advances, not his right to see our daughter – Davido’s first baby mama

I refused Davido’s advances, not his right to see our daughter – Davido’s first baby mama

Popular Nigerian singer Davido’s, first baby mama has officially responded to a custody lawsuit filed by the artist at the Lagos State High Court.

The lawsuit concerns their daughter, Imade, who was born in May 2015.

According to Premium Times, Davido, represented by his lawyers Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, seeks joint custody of their 9-year-old daughter.

Ms. Momodu, represented by her legal team from Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and Bimpe Ajegbomogun & Co, addressed the allegations made by Davido. She denied rejecting a N200 million apartment in a gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, that Davido claimed he had purchased for Imade’s care.

Additionally, the singer alleged that Ms. Momodu demanded an annual lump sum payment of $19,600 for a nanny, which she denied.

In her response, published by Pulse, Ms. Momodu emphasized that she only refuted claims of intimacy with Davido and rejected the various accusations of cruelty and unreasonable demands that Davido had levelled against her.

It partly read: “David Adeleke and Sophia Momodu were in a relationship from 2014-2017 and 2020-2022. During this time, David provided financial support for their daughter, covering school fees, rent, and other living expenses, including the cars mentioned in the article.

Sophia ended her relationship with David in July 2022. Since then, David has continually threatened to make Sophia’s life difficult if she does not comply with his demands for sexual availability.

“Sophia has never denied David access to their daughter, only access to her body and intimacy, which he has taken issue with. David is in a publicly known relationship, and Sophia wishes him well. She seeks to move forward in her life free from harassment and verbal abuse.”

The 37-year-old entrepreneur claimed that Davido neglected Imade for more than two years.

Ms. Momodu also claimed that the 31-year-old singer has opted not to visit their daughter or attend important events in her life.

“David has not seen our daughter since July 2022 by his own choice. Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter. He has not reached out on special occasions, such as her birthday or Christmas, for the past two years, which has left his daughter distressed and questioning why her father has cut contact with her. Despite this, David posts images of her on social media to falsely portray himself as a supportive and active father.”

Additionally, the statement alleged that Sophia has solely shouldered expenses, including rent, living and travel costs, healthcare, and all other expenses related to their daughter in the last two years.

“Since July 2022, David has not fulfilled his financial responsibilities towards their daughter, leaving her school fees unpaid. Their daughter’s school has contacted him multiple times regarding the 2021/2022 school term fees and January 2023, with no response.”

“Legal counsel was sought in February 2023, resulting in David’s father, Mr Adedeji Adeleke, eventually paying the outstanding fees. Despite this neglect, Sophia firmly maintains that the most crucial support David can provide their daughter is his presence and emotional support,’’ the statement read.

The entrepreneur stated that she began legal efforts to establish a formal co-parenting agreement with Davido two years ago. However, she claimed that Davido and his legal team consistently refused to cooperate towards a mutually agreeable resolution.

Instead, she alleged that they sought to discredit and isolate her and their daughter using Davido’s social influence and network.

  • Rev. Opoku Onyina rejected running mate role because Bawumia’s credibility is in limbo – Abass Nurudeen

Rev. Opoku Onyina rejected running mate role because Bawumia’s credibility is in limbo – Abass Nurudeen

The Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abass Nurudeen, has revealed that Rev. Opoku Onyina was allegedly recommended to become Bawumia’s running mate but he actually declined the offer.

According to him, the respected man of God told Bawumia he cannot associate himself with him because he has a bad reputation in the face Ghanaians.

For him, nothing can improve the lack of trust people have in Bawumia, and therefore he cannot risk working with him.

“You might recall that a pastor from the Pentecost Church, Rev. Opoku Onyina, was considered for the running mate position? However, the pastor told Bawumia, “Given the current doubts about your credibility, even if you are cleansed with the strongest detergents, it wouldn’t improve your reputation. As a man of God, I cannot associate with you and risk damaging my own integrity,” Abass Nurudeen said.

In February 10, 2024, it was alleged that Rev Opoku Onyina was going to become Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in the upcoming 2024 election because of a photo he shared with the NPP flagbearer on social media.

However the man of God came in to state that his cryptic social media post on Saturday, February 10, 2024, had no correlation with the rumours.

Apostle Onyinah distanced himself from the political connotations of his post, following the diverse reactions to the post.

He further said, Apostle Onyinah explained that the previous post was created from the Church of Pentecost’s theme for the year 2015.

The admitted that while the timing of his post might have fed into the rumours, he did not make it with the idea to subtly confirm his association with Bawumia’s candidature.

“Very interesting. I coined my last post when we (The Church of Pentecost) adopted the theme, ‘Being a Good Steward of God in my Generation’ in 2015. I examined the man who received one talent and hid it in the ground.

“I then wrote, ‘The Lord has a reason for creating me. Burying my talent and making it redundant is doing a disservice to my family, church, nation, and world. If I fail to speak, to work, to contribute, I allow the ‘bad’ minority to rule and dictate. Often, the silence of the majority or a good one helps the noisy minority destroy society or even rule.’ It has many lessons,” he wrote.

Watch Nana Ama McBrown’s reaction after husband deleted all her photos

Nana Ama McBrown has finally spoken out following her husband’s deletion of all their love photos and the ongoing sidechick controversy.

For over a year, rumors have swirled about a potential separation between Ghanaian actress Nana Ama McBrown and her husband, Maxwell Mensah.

Despite these persistent rumors, the couple has publicly maintained their relationship by frequently making joint appearances.

The rumors reached a peak when McBrown felt compelled to address them directly in an interview with Andy Dosty on HITZ FM.

She denied the separation claims during the interview, insisting that she and Maxwell were still happily married.

However, despite her assurances, an insider later alleged that Maxwell had been unfaithful multiple times and had even been caught in the act on several occasions.

This source also claimed that McBrown once slapped Maxwell during a heated argument about his infidelities.

While the divorce rumors have not been officially confirmed, Maxwell’s recent actions have added fuel to the fire.

Just hours ago, Maxwell deleted all photos of McBrown from his Instagram page, including birthday posts and other affectionate captions.

Maxwell’s decision to remove all traces of McBrown from his social media account has led many to believe that their marriage may indeed be over.

The couple, who are well-known in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, have not made any official statements regarding their current relationship status.

As fans and followers await further updates, the removal of McBrown’s photos from Maxwell’s Instagram page is seen as a significant indicator that all may not be well in their marriage.

Whether this is a temporary issue or a sign of a permanent separation remains to be seen.

As expected, Nana Ama McBrown has responded in a video that has already gone viral online.

In the video, Empress McBrown flaunts her beauty, smiling brightly to show that she is doing just fine despite her husband’s move to delete all their love photos.

I’II not accept sponsorships from alcoholic brands, they don’t complement what I do – Joe Mettle

Award-winning gospel musician Joe Mettle has reaffirmed his position on accepting sponsorship from alcoholic brands.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, Joe Mettle emphasized that he would not accept sponsorship from these brands for his events.

He stated, “It is a no for me. Aside from faith, you can only work with brands that complement what you do.”

When asked about accepting anonymous sponsorship from an alcohol brand, Joe Mettle said, “With brands that give sponsorship and do not want to be mentioned, that is the silent sponsors, because silence is silent, I don’t know what I will do about that now though.”

He further explained that corporate sponsorships usually come with strings attached, as there are often obligations to fulfil in return.

“A company’s sponsorship is mostly not free since no matter what, you will be required to pay it someday since you will be invited on their stage,” he stated.

The FDA in its guidelines for the Advertisement of Foods published on February 1, 2016 stipulates that “No well-known personality or professional shall be used in alcoholic beverage advertising.”

The authority explained that the guideline was necessary to prevent minors from being addicted to alcohol due to the influence of celebrities.

The FDA further noted that the ban was in adherence with a policy by the World Health Organisation (WHO), and also part of efforts to protect children and young ones from being lured into alcoholism.

However, a citizen Mark Darlington filed a suit against the FDA’s directive praying the Apex court to hold as unconstitutional the directive as it violated the right against discrimination as guaranteed by Article 17 of the 1992 Constitution.

But the Supreme court in a 5-2 majority decision on Wednesday, June 19 dismissed the case and upheld the FDA’s directive.

The court held that the directive by FDA was not unreasonable and excessive, adding that it didn’t contravene the provision of the constitution.Aa

Ohene-Djan is ideal to occupy office of Deputy Minister of Tourism – Hammer

In an insightful interview on Starr Chart with Bola Ray, renowned music producer Hammer advocated for Abraham Ohene-Djan to be appointed as the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, instead of the current appointee, Mark Okraku Mantey.

Hammer commended Ohene-Djan’s impressive track record and his leadership and development approach at OM Studios.

“Look at Abraham Ohene-Djan. He’s the one I actually was hoping would become the Deputy Minister for Tourism and Creative Arts,”

Hammer emphasized the significant impact Ohene-Djan has made on those he has collaborated with throughout the years.

“Over the years, Abraham Ohene-Djan, from when we started working, the way he handles OM Studios, everybody who passed through OM Studios, he developed them. He organized their weddings for them. If you were a cameraman at OM Studios, Abraham would organize your wedding for you. Dancers became editors. Self-development. So there’s growth and development for everybody. If you were a sweeper or a janitor, you would develop to become a cameraman and then develop into something else.”

Hammer emphasized the visible and tangible results of Ohene-Djan’s mentorship and leadership. “Abraham, how do we know what Abraham has done? Because everybody can see. What you do in your bedroom, we’re not supposed to see. But what you do outside, your deeds, that’s who you are.”

Although Hammer acknowledged that Okraku Mantey is not a bad person, he questioned his commitment to collective progress. “Mark is not an evil person. But Mark doesn’t have the collective interest at heart.”

Hammer’s remarks illuminate the qualities he deems crucial for a public office holder in the creative sector: a demonstrated history of nurturing growth and advancement among colleagues and subordinates. His backing of Abraham Ohene-Djan underscores the significance of tangible contributions to the community and the capacity to motivate and elevate others.

Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has shared an incident involving the repossession of a vehicle given to her by the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

She explained that during John Dramani Mahama’s tenure, vehicles were distributed to some celebrities in need, with the understanding that they would repay the costs as loans.

As a beneficiary of this initiative, Edjeani disclosed that she received a Chevrolet and was diligently fulfilling the payment terms.

However, following the NPP’s assumption of political power in 2017, she recounted experiencing the unexplained confiscation of her vehicle by the authorities.

In a 3FM interview, Akofa shared her experience: “When John Mahama was in office, he distributed 50 cars to celebrities, starting with 25 in the north, in Kumasi and 25 in Accra, to both actors and musicians. I received a Chevrolet, but when the NPP took over, my car was taken away. My son was using it; they had installed trackers. Once they were in power, they located it.

“My son was driving when they intercepted him and took the car without allowing him to retrieve his belongings, including his backpack, basketball, and school bag. The cars were given with the intention of increasing the number each year. For those who could afford it, a payment plan of perhaps five years was set up for installments. These weren’t giveaways,” she explained.

Meanwhile, celebrities such as actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu have called on the creative community to support John Dramani Mahama. She pointed to his provision of vehicles for creatives during his presidency as her rationale for endorsing him.

“We are officially married because we did the court marriage and in Ghana it is a process. I have asked for a divorce, so we are in the process of it. The thing is, I have not spoken to Patapaa directly. I have only spoken to his parents. Patapaa and I have not spoken in years.

“The last time I saw him was after our wedding before I left in 2021. After that we haven’t met. I think it’s been more than a year, getting to two years, we are not even talking at all. One year into their marriage, Patapaa and Liha Miller faced public turmoil when Liha ventured into the comedy industry.

Ghanaian actress widely recognized as Maame Gyanwaa from the famous show “Cow and Chicken,” has recently shared her struggle with a severe eye condition spanning four years.

“If I lose my sight completely, I will search for poisons used for pests and drink them. I cannot live without my eyes,” she confessed.

During a heartfelt interview with blogger ZionFelix, Maame Gyanwaa recounted her journey battling the ailment. It all started with misdiagnoses, from malaria to glaucoma.

Eventually, doctors discovered a blood clot behind her eye, a condition they deemed incurable.

“I have already spent over 11,000 cedis on treatment, but it’s not enough. I have lost all sight in my left eye, and my vision in the right eye is blurry. I experience frequent blackouts in that eye,” she shared.

In her quest for more affordable treatment, Maame Gyanwaa makes a monthly journey from Accra to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, incurring transportation costs of up to GH₵400 each trip.

In an interview with Auntie Naa on Oyerepa FM, she said her husband’s family has barred her from providing care for him.

She recounted, “I’ve been with my husband for 40 years. I was his caregiver at Komfo Anokye Hospital when his illness started. At one point, he told me to stay home and pray for him, as his sister would take him to a pastor for treatment.

“Everyone needs help. We would need prayers, and those who have and are willing to help can offer him a little. The few people he has impacted with his music should also help,” he added.

Prior to Yaw Sarpong’s manager’s confirmation of his illness, gospel singers Diana Asamoah and Maame Tiwaa had already informed the public.

The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, contributed a sum of GH¢100,000 to aid Yaw Sarpong’s medical care.
