    The police are looking into a crash between a truck and a train in Sarnia.

    The Sarnia Police Service went to Clifford Street because a train had come off its tracks around Tuesday 9:20 in the morning.

    The police said a CSX train bumped into a truck at a slow speed.

    The police said that no one got hurt and there were no dangerous materials on the vehicle. The crash did not cause a big traffic jam in the area.

    The Traffic Services Unit is currently looking into this incident and no one has been charged yet.

    LGBTQ2S+ protests scheduled to take in Canada on May 16

    Groups all over the Canadian country are getting ready for what they say will be the biggest LGBTQ2S+ movement since the effort for same-sex marriage rights.

    Fae Johnstone, who leads the Society of Queer Momentum, says there will be protests in different parts of Canada in May.

    The group wants the government to provide money for programs that help LGBTQ2S+ people, and they are working with other organizations to make this happen.

    The team has named the campaign the Rainbow Week of Action.

    There will be rallies in Toronto on May 16, and in other cities like Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa on May 17. More activities are planned for other towns and neighborhoods.

    Johnstone believes their message is very important right now because some groups and politicians are sharing false information about the LGBTQ2S+ community to make people angry and cause division.

    “It’s time for us to change things. ” It’s time to speak up and ask for a Canada where everyone’s family is treated fairly and has freedom.

    Rallies will happen in twelve big cities and towns, Johnstone said, and smaller communities are planning to have shared meals and pizza parties.

    “Local event planners and LGBTQ+ groups from each province will bring what their community needs. ” “Soon, there will be rallies in Alberta, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan to make sure the government is taking action to protect the rights and freedoms of transgender kids,” she said.

    Alberta Premier Danielle Smith wants to make it harder for young people to get gender-affjsonrming care. She wants to make a law that says teachers have to ask parents for permission before they start calling a child by a different name or pronouns if they’re under 16 years old. If students are 16 or 17, teachers can make decisions without asking the parents, but they have to tell the parents about it.

    Last year, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick made a rule that says parents must agree if kids 16 and under want to change their names or how they are called. Protests and legal battles happened after that.

    Saskatchewan used a special clause to ignore some rights in order to make the policy a law.

    Johnstone said that the rallies also send a message to areas that have been more accepting of trans rights.

    There was chaos when about seven horses from the Household Cavalry got scared by loud noises from construction workers. This happened while the horses were out for a walk in Belgravia, a fancy neighborhood near Buckingham Palace, according to British media.

    The horses without riders ran fast on the main roads in central London. They bumped into cars and surprised people going to work. The horses were caught and are now being checked by doctors.

    Photos and videos on social media showed two horses running fast down Aldwych, between London’s financial center and the West End theater district.

    One of the horses had its front covered in what looked like blood or red paint. The Army has not said if the injury was caused by blood or something else.

    Megan Morra saw a horse with a head injury on her way to work. She told the media about it.

    She said there was a large amount of blood. “To be honest, I felt sad when I saw the poor horse. ”

    A taxi near Buckingham Palace had its window broken by a scared horse, and a tour bus had its windshield damaged.

    “All the horses have been found and brought back to camp,” said a person from the Army. “Some people and horses got hurt and are getting the right medical care. ”

    The London Ambulance Service helped four people in three different accidents in just ten minutes after the horses caused chaos at around 8:30am.

    The horses are from the Household Cavalry. They are the guards for the king or queen and are often seen at events in London.

    The speaker of Greece’s parliament stated that he plans to request the police to detain a politician who allegedly assaulted another politician during a debate on Wednesday.

    “We can charge the person who did this terrible and savage attack with a serious crime quickly,” said Speaker Constantine Tassoulas.

    He said that lawmakers are protected from punishment for minor crimes, but not for serious ones. He told the parliament’s police to take the lawmaker to the authorities who decide on punishment.

    The fight happened a few hours before Greece’s top court is supposed to announce which political parties can participate in the June 9 European Parliament election.

    The court will think about a request from three political parties to remove the far-right Spartans party because they are linked to the extreme right Golden Dawn. Some of the top members of Golden Dawn were put in jail in 2020 for being part of a criminal group.

    The Israeli army dug up bodies that Palestinians had buried to find the remains of the hostages taken by Hamas during the attack that started the war. The military checked the bodies with respect and gave back the ones that were not from Israeli hostages.

    The Israeli military says it attacked and caught many militants who were hiding in two hospital buildings, but this has not been confirmed by others.

    The Palestinian civil defense in Gaza found 283 bodies buried in a temporary graveyard at the main hospital in Khan Younis. It was built when Israeli forces surrounded the hospital last month. At that time, people couldn’t bury their dead in a cemetery so they dug graves in the hospital yard instead, according to the group.

    The civil defense said that some of the bodies were of people who were killed during the attack on the hospital. Israeli forces went into the hospital and some people were killed.

    Palestinian health officials say that the attacks on hospitals have greatly damaged Gaza’s healthcare system, which is already struggling to handle the increasing number of casualties from the six-month long war.

    The question of who should do an investigation is still not clear.

    Dujarric said that in order for the United Nations to do an investigation, one of its big groups would have to give permission for it.

    “I don’t think anyone should judge the results or who did it,” he said. “I believe there should be a thorough investigation with access and credibility. ”

    The leader of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, stated that it is very important to investigate possible crimes committed by Hamas and Israeli forces. He visited Israel and the West Bank in December.

    Seven young individuals in Sydney were apprehended by the Australian law enforcement for allegedly embracing a violent extremist ideology.They were arrested in raids on Wednesday. A judge also said that social media platform X couldn’t share a video of a knife attack on a bishop, which led to the investigation.

    Seven teenagers, who were between the ages of 15 to 17, were in a group connected to a 16-year-old boy. The boy is accused of stabbing a bishop in a Sydney church on April 15, according to the police.

    Videos of the stabbing were taken from the church service and then shared on X. Last week, a regulator in Australia told the platform to remove the videos. The platform is now trying to not do that.

    Five more teenagers were still talking to the police on Wednesday night. The police team includes federal and state police, the Australian Security Intelligence Organization, and the New South Wales Crime Commission. They are all working together to investigate terrorism.

    Over 400 police officers searched 13 properties in southwest Sydney because they thought the suspects were a big danger. This was said by Deputy Commissioner David Hudson of the New South Wales Police.

    “We will say that these people followed a religiously motivated, violent extremist belief,” Hudson told the news.

    The lawyer for the commission, Christopher Tran, said that X did not follow the order given on Monday. Hoyne said he didn’t know what to do about that.

    ASIO boss Mike Burgess said his organization was part of Wednesday’s operation.

    Ukraine stopped helping military-aged men at their embassies until May 18. They are upset with Ukrainians living outside the country who want help but are not helping Ukraine in its war against Russia.

    Many Ukrainian men of military age are living in other countries and Ukraine doesn’t have enough soldiers to fight against a bigger and better-equipped enemy, since Russia invaded almost 26 months ago.

    Last week, Ukraine made a new law to improve how it gets civilian men to join the army. This should help them defend against Russian troops.

    Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that it doesn’t look good when a man of conscription age goes abroad and shows that he doesn’t care about his country’s survival, but then comes back and wants services from the state.

    “It doesn’t work like that. ” Our country is fighting in a war. Living in another country doesn’t mean a person doesn’t have to do things for their own country.

    His angry voice showed that people in Kyiv are getting more and more frustrated with Ukrainian men living outside the country who are not helping in the war.

    Many people have avoided going to war by leaving the country.

    Around 43 million people from Ukraine were living in European Union countries in January 2024. Out of these, approximately 860,000 are adult men, according to the Eurostat database.

    In simple words, the suspension means that young men living in other countries won’t be able to update or get new passports or other important papers like marriage certificates.

    Because students are scared to go to Columbia, the school will do a mix of in-person and online classes for the rest of the semester. This will finish by the end of next week.

    Police at the nearby New York University arrested 133 protesters on Monday. They were all released with a ticket to go to court for being disruptive. New York City Mayor Eric Adams said that police officers were hit with bottles and other things during protests this week.

    In Connecticut, the police arrested 60 people who were protesting, including 47 students, at Yale University. They were taken into custody because they didn’t want to leave a area in the middle of the campus.

    Yale President Peter Salovey said the protesters did not accept an offer to stop their demonstration and talk with the trustees. School officials gave a lot of warnings, then decided that the situation wasn’t safe. The police then removed the camp and arrested people.

    In the Midwest, on Tuesday, there were protests at the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota. Nearly 40 tents were set up at the University of Michigan and nine people were arrested at the University of Minnesota. Hundreds of people gathered at the Minnesota campus in the afternoon to ask for their release.

    Cal Poly Humboldt on the West Coast of California will be closed until Wednesday because protesters took over a building on Monday night. Three people were taken by the police because they were protesting. The school said on its website that classes will be taught online.

    Since the fighting in Gaza started, colleges and universities have had a hard time keeping students safe while also allowing them to express their opinions freely. A lot of protests that used to be allowed are now getting harsher punishments.

    Harvard University in Massachusetts has closed most gates to its Harvard Yard and is only allowing people with school ID to enter, in order to avoid protests. The school put up signs that say you need permission to set up tents or tables on campus.

    Christian Deleon, a Literature Ph. D student, said he knows why Harvard doesn’t want protests, but students should still be able to share their opinions.

    “He said we should all be able to use these places to protest and speak out. ”

    Ben Wizner, a lawyer from the American Civil Liberties Union, said that college leaders have to make very difficult choices because they are responsible for making sure that people can share their opinions, even if others don’t like them.

    “He said they also need to keep students safe from being harassed, threatened, or intimidated. ” “Sometimes it’s hard to tell where the line is. ”

    The New York Civil Liberties Union warned colleges not to rush to involve the police, in a statement on Tuesday.

    “Auerbach said that in order to make everyone feel like they belong on campus, different groups need to talk to each other in a helpful way. ” “And currently, no one is talking. ”

    Hannah Didehbani, a senior studying physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said that the protesters were motivated by the ones at Columbia University.

    “Currently, some professors at the campus are receiving money directly from Israel’s ministry of defence for their research,” she said. “We have been asking MIT to stop working with that research. ”

    Protesters at the University of California, Berkeley, were inspired by the demonstrators at Columbia University. They had about 30 tents set up on Tuesday. Law student Malak Afaneh said the Columbia demonstrators are the leaders of the student movement.

    Columbia’s President Minouche Shafik said she felt very sad about what’s happening on campus. Some Jewish students feel that criticism of Israel has turned into antisemitism.

    US House Speaker Mike Johnson is going to visit Jewish students at the university on Wednesday. He will also talk about how to stop hate against Jewish people at college campuses during a press conference.

    Columbia has a long history of protests. In 1968, many students were mad about racism and the Vietnam War, so they took over five buildings on campus. A thousand police officers came and removed them after a week, taking 700 people into custody. The news said that 100 students and 15 police officers got hurt.

    Protests started on the campus after Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people, most of them were civilians, and holding around 250 people hostage. In the war, Israel has killed over 34,000 people in the Gaza Strip.     Officials in Baltimore have announced that they are going to create deeper and new channels to make it easier for big ships to come in and out of the city’s port. This will happen on Thursday and is a big deal because the port has been closed to most traffic since the bridge collapsed last month.

    The new channel will be much deeper than the three other temporary channels made recently. The cleanup is going faster than expected. Officials said they wanted to open a channel of that depth by the end of April.

    Five out of the seven cargo ships that were stuck in Baltimore’s harbor will now be able to go through the new channel. This includes a ship carrying cars. Officials announced this on Tuesday, which is one month after the deadly disaster. Other ships are supposed to come to the port. This port usually deals with a lot of cars and farm equipment, more than any other port in the country.

    “Four weeks ago, our lives were greatly affected by the Key Bridge collapsing,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott at a press conference.

    The big ship that knocked down the bridge had stopped working and went off its planned route not long after it left the Port of Baltimore on its way to Sri Lanka. The Dali ship is staying still in the middle of the broken pieces while workers are trying to remove large twisted steel that fell on the ship’s deck.

    Six workers fixing the road fell and died when the road caved in. Four bodies were found in the sunken ship, but two people are still missing.

    Authorities said that workers have removed a lot of debris, more than 2,900 tons, so that ships that are important for business can use the new channel from Thursday to Monday or Tuesday. Boats must have a Maryland pilot and two tugboats with them as they go through the channel.

    The passageway will be closed until about May 10th while workers remove metal from the Dali and get the ship floating again. Then, the ship will be guided back into the port.

    The main waterway in the port is going to open again next month after they remove the ship. It is 50 feet deep. That will basically make boat traffic go back to normal.

    “We will work well and we will work without any danger, we won’t have to pick between the two,” stated Maryland Gov Wes Moore during the news conference.

    In a legal document filed in court, the mayor and city council of Baltimore are asking for the Dali’s owner and manager to be held responsible for the bridge collapse. They believe this could have a really bad impact on the economy of the area. They said the port has been an important part of Baltimore’s economy for a very long time. The bridge being lost has caused problems for a big trucking route on the east coast.

    The two companies filed a response to a petition that asked a court to limit their responsibility under a law from 1851. This is a normal process for cases like this. A court in Maryland will decide who is to blame and how much they must pay in the end.

    Stubb went to Sweden and talked at a news conference in Stockholm with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. For many years, both countries stayed neutral and didn’t pick sides in wars or join any military groups. But that changed when Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022.

    Sweden and Finland have a lot of history in common. “We have a shared future,” said Kristersson at the press event. His country joined NATO in March and became the 32nd member.

    Finland was part of Sweden for about 700 years until 1809 when it became part of Russia because of a war in Europe. Finland became its own country in 1917 when it broke away from Russia during the Russian Revolution.

    The bill got 68 votes in favor and 28 votes against it, so it will now go to the Republican governor. Please think about Bill Lee. If he makes it a law, it would be the biggest increase in access to guns in the state since a deadly shooting at a school last year.

    The public people who didn’t like the bill yelled at the Republican lawmakers after they voted. The House Speaker, Cameron Sexton, told everyone to leave the galleries.

    Four House Republicans and all Democrats didn’t support the bill, even though the state Senate had already passed it.     The Defence Ministry in Moscow stated on Saturday that Ukraine had sent multiple drones over Russia the previous night. It seems like the drones were attacking Russia’s energy facilities.

    Air defenses in Russia shot down fifty drones in eight different areas, with 26 being shot down in the Belgorod region near the Ukrainian border. A woman with a broken leg and the man taking care of her died during a big attack. The explosions caused a fire in their home, and they didn’t make it out alive. This happened in Belgorod, Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov posted on the internet.

    A woman who was going to have a baby and her unborn child were also killed in the shelling on Saturday.

    Drones were also said to be destroyed over several regions in Russia’s west and south, including the Bryansk, Kursk, Tula, Smolensk, Ryazan, and Kaluga regions, as well as in the Moscow region.

    Lately, Ukrainian drones have been targeting Russian oil refineries and terminals. This is part of increased attacks on Russia’s land.

    Russell Bentley, 64, used to work for the Russian news agency Sputnik but is no longer involved in military activities. The people he used to work with and the boss of a TV channel said he died. They called him “a real American. ” He went by the nickname “Texas” and had been in jail for smuggling drugs before he left the United States.

    The reason for Bentley’s death is not known yet, but the local police had said earlier that they couldn’t find him from April 8.

    Beside the attacks, Ukrainian police are looking for two Ukrainian soldiers who killed a police officer at a checkpoint in Vinnytsia region.

    The soldiers started shooting at Maksym Zaretskyi, who is 20 years old, early on Saturday morning when he stopped their car for a regular check. Zaretskyi’s friend got hurt, but he was able to survive the attack.

    On social media, Ukraine’s Ground Forces Command said that the two men were in the military. They said Zaretskyi’s death is a big loss and the people who killed him should be punished very harshly.
