Ghana Police’s bond prevents Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy from performing at the same venue

At the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, an altercation between Dancehall artists Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy led to a significant incident that now prevents them from performing at the same venue simultaneously.

Following this confrontation, the Ghana Police Service mandated both artists to sign a bond restricting their joint performances at events.

Entertainment pundit and media personality Ola Michael highlighted the situation, stating, “There’s a bond between Shatta, Stonebwoy, and the police that stops them from performing together at the same time and place. The police’s silence on this matter is causing confusion for event organizers, which isn’t fair. They should disclose it.”

After the chaotic events of May 18 at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale faced legal repercussions.

Stonebwoy was charged with offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace and displaying a firearm without permission.

Shatta Wale faced a charge of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace.

Represented by Lawyers Jerry Avenyor and Selali Wonya, respectively, both artists pleaded not guilty and were each granted GH¢50,000 bail by Magistrate Isaac Addo.

Regarding the incident at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards:

The awards ceremony became controversial when Stonebwoy was declared Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year. Shatta Wale and his entourage stormed the stage, leading Stonebwoy to brandish a gun.

It is noteworthy that Stonebwoy had been winning the Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year award for five consecutive years.

  • GHC10bn loss in 2023 doesn’t mean our policies are ineffective – BoG

GHC10bn loss in 2023 doesn’t mean our policies are ineffective – BoG

The Bank of Ghana (BOG) has clarified that its significant financial loss of GH₵10.5 billion for the 2023 fiscal year does not reflect a failure in policy effectiveness.

The Central Bank explained that a substantial portion of this loss, GH₵8.3 billion, was due to open market operations aimed at controlling inflation, a significant increase from GH₵1.7 billion in 2022.

In an interview with Citi Business News, Director of Communications at the Central Bank, Bernard Otabil emphasized that the BoG’s actions to curb inflation bolster their credibility despite the financial setback.

“Central banks focus on national welfare rather than profits. For the Bank of Ghana, headline inflation dropped from a peak of 54.1% at the end of December 2022 to 23.2% by December 2023,” Otabil explained.

He noted that the increased expenditure on open market operations reflects a fivefold rise in efforts to absorb liquidity from the economy to reduce inflation. Despite a lower revaluation loss and exchange difference charge due to slower currency depreciation, the GH₵4.27 billion recorded still significantly contributed to the overall loss of GH₵10.5 billion.

Otabil reiterated that the 2023 financial results highlight the Central Bank’s dedication to price stability and the economic welfare of Ghanaians.

“The Bank of Ghana remains committed to policies aimed at achieving a stable inflation rate, targeting 8% with a tolerance of plus or minus 2 percentage points. Lowering inflation to this target is crucial for sustainable economic growth and prosperity, and it also helps maintain exchange rate stability under our floating currency regime,” he added.

“But that wasn’t the main reason I left the marriage. To be honest, I was the primary breadwinner. I’m taking care of my son as if no one else exists around me. It’s not easy. I should have chosen financial security over love.”

Marriage is not a do-or-die thing, if you are unhappy, walk away – Yul Edochie

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie shared his perspective on marriage, asserting that a man can marry multiple times if he finds his current partner unsuitable.

In a recent interview, Edochie highlighted the importance of recognizing when a marriage is not working and urged people not to view it as a “do or die” commitment.

“Marriage shouldn’t be a do-or-die situation. If it’s not working out, part ways amicably. There’s no need to hurt each other. If you move on and find someone else you want to marry, go for it. If that doesn’t work out either, move on again. You could end up marrying fifty times if necessary. You can’t control how people respond to you.

Happiness is unique to each individual, so don’t let others dictate what’s best for you. Find out what brings you joy. And if you decide never to marry, that’s perfectly okay. Just focus on being happy,” he said.

If it doesn’t work out again, move on and marry someone else. You could marry fifty times if necessary. You can’t control how others react to you.

“What brings happiness varies from person to person, so don’t let anyone dictate what will make you happy.

I refused an offer from Obama to be a US citizen, I fear God – Blakk Rasta

Ghanaian reggae artist and radio presenter Blakk Rasta has recently made bold claims about a remarkable encounter with former US President Barack Obama.

According to Blakk Rasta, Obama offered him US citizenship during a visit to Ghana, but he declined the offer to avoid divine retribution.

In a tweet and an interview with Property FM, Blakk Rasta recounted the incident, saying, “When Obama visited Ghana, he offered me the chance to become an American citizen. However, I turned it down because I believe accepting it would incur God’s wrath. God placed me in Ghana to contribute to my country in any way I can. Fleeing to America would be a betrayal of that purpose, and I feared divine punishment. Therefore, I refused the offer. If I’ve chosen to stay in Ghana, I must speak out against the issues we face. Otherwise, there’s no point in remaining here.”

Blakk Rasta continued to express his frustrations with Ghanaian politics, saying, “Our major problems stem from politicians who see public service as an opportunity for personal gain. Instead of aiding in the country’s development, they resort to looting. This angers me, especially when I think of my young children. It pains me to imagine them growing up to inherit such a dysfunctional economy. Everyone is trying to escape abroad, but I believe in staying and speaking out for change.”

Don’t indoctrinate students with your political ideologies – Afenyo-Markin to teachers

Member of Parliament for Effutu Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on local teachers to avoid influencing students with their political beliefs as the 2024 December elections approach.

He emphasized that such actions can create division and tension within schools.

During a laptop distribution event for teachers in Effutu, part of his one-teacher-one-laptop initiative, Afenyo-Markin stated, “In this election year, everyone is entitled to their political opinions. However, as educators, it’s crucial to maintain a harmonious environment. Engage in political discussions if you must, but keep them civil and avoid causing unnecessary strife. Don’t let the political climate extend to your students.”

He further urged, “Express your views and offer critiques in a constructive manner. The politics of insults are detrimental to our country. We should be able to debate respectfully, like I do with my colleague Dr. Ato Forson, and still enjoy a cup of tea, coffee, or ‘waakye’ together afterward. That’s the essence of democracy. This is common practice in more developed democracies.”

Afenyo-Markin also encouraged teachers to maximize the use of the tablets provided, noting, “We want to support you in educating our children. In this age of Artificial Intelligence, it’s vital to have the right tools to stay ahead. Without them, students might outpace you in knowledge. Utilize these resources, research, and pass on your findings. Effutu is well-equipped with libraries, offering ample materials to aid in educating the youth,” he concluded.

He applauded Otumfuo’s participation in the durbar of Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, in Accra, viewing it as a significant move towards uniting diverse communities.

‘No one forced me to marry my wife’ – Akwaboah

Ghanaian musician Akwaboah Jnr. has firmly denied claims that his pastor once advised him against marrying the mother of his child. During an interview on The Delay Show on June 8, 2024, the musician clarified the situation surrounding his relationship with his wife, Theresa, whom he married in May.

Akwaboah stressed that the rumors were unfounded and that he made his own decision regarding his partner. “At my age and with my experience, must someone force a lady on me?” he questioned, recounting their meeting. He explained that while Theresa is his pastor’s secretary, their relationship developed independently.

“He [the pastor] didn’t introduce her to me. She’s my pastor’s secretary, so whenever I want to see my pastor, I’ll go through her. And I noticed I liked her, I proposed to her, and we’re where we are,” Akwaboah shared.

He also refuted the idea that his pastor intervened in his romantic decisions. “So, the claims that our pastor forced her on me are untrue. He never asked me to quit my relationship with my baby mama,” he clarified. Akwaboah added that his wife is a midwife by profession.

Akwaboah, who is part of Prophet Amoako Atta’s Lord’s Parliament Chapel, shared that he separated from previous partners due to irreconcilable differences. “She was pregnant, we separated, and I decided to take care of my son,” he said, noting that his son is now ten years old. “A lot happened before we separated, but I wouldn’t go into it. I took my son when he was a year old.”

He also spoke about his responsibilities as a father, revealing that he has two children with two different women. “The second born is five years old; the child is in the UK with the mother, and I take care of that child as well,” Akwaboah explained.

  • Comparing foreign passport to PhD is utter ‘nonsense’ – Prophet Kofi Oduro

Comparing foreign passport to PhD is utter ‘nonsense’ – Prophet Kofi Oduro

Prophet Kofi Oduro, the head pastor of Alabaster International Ministries, has criticized the comparison between acquiring a foreign passport and earning a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD).

He believes it is irrational for people to argue about the merits of having a foreign passport versus a PhD, especially when others are focused on creating innovative solutions to advance the world.

The pastor contends that such a debate is fundamentally flawed because it has no significance in death and no bearing on one’s salvation.

Addressing his congregation, Prophet Oduro condemned the social media discussions on passports and PhDs as “nonsense.”

“Having a Dutch passport doesn’t mean you no longer need education. This demeans the value of education. While some are researching artificial intelligence and other fields, we are wasting time on trivial debates.

“What importance does an American or British passport really hold? It’s all vanity, and I don’t care about your opinions. When Ebony passed away, she didn’t take her visa-filled passport with her. I’ve lived abroad and know how things work. There are opportunities, but it’s not as easy as it seems,” he exclaimed.

The debate intensified after Prof. Kobby Mensah, a lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, remarked that a PhD is not suitable for those in urgent need of a job.

“A PhD is not for the hungry. It’s not for securing employment or for entrepreneurship. Understand that!” the lecturer wrote on X.

Various celebrities, including John Dumelo, Sista Afia, Efia Odo, Wayoosi, and Nana Yaa Brefo, have also weighed in on the debate.

Brefo acknowledged the academic merit of obtaining a PhD but raised questions about how effectively Ghana has leveraged the knowledge of its scholars. She pointed out that while PhD holders in other nations have contributed significantly to technological advancements like car manufacturing, such feats are not as commonly associated with Ghanaian scholars.

“I’m not suggesting that pursuing a PhD is negative, but we need to see tangible benefits from the educational achievements of our scholars. Considering our current economic challenges, it’s essential to evaluate the contributions of economists in addressing these issues,” she remarked.

The discussion gained momentum following comments from Prof. Kobby Mensah, a lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, who stated that a PhD might not be the most suitable path for immediate employment needs.

Wave Africa hints at legal action against Legon over cancelling Shatta Wale’s show

Wave Africa, the organizers of TF Hostel Reunion Rave Artiste Night, found themselves addressing widespread confusion and disappointment after the event’s abrupt cancellation, particularly due to the absence of Shatta Wale’s performance.

The genesis of this saga lay in Wave Africa’s initial agreement with James Topp Nelson Yankah Hall executives. This collaboration, which had been in the works for two months, culminated in a formal contract signed on June 5th, 2024, for Shatta Wale to headline the event.

Following this agreement, promotional materials featuring Shatta Wale were circulated. However, the event took an unexpected turn on June 7th when the Dean of Students Office announced its cancellation. Despite assurances from the hall executives that the issues had been resolved, a subsequent attempt to proceed with the event encountered renewed opposition.

On June 8th, during setup and sound check activities, campus security intervened, citing instructions from higher authorities. Despite attempts to resolve the situation through dialogue with the Dean of Students Office, Wave Africa was informed that Shatta Wale’s performance was not permitted.

Wave Africa, complying with this directive, expressed disappointment and issued an apology to fans for the unfulfilled promise of Shatta Wale’s performance. They also hinted at exploring legal options after engaging with all stakeholders involved in this unfortunate episode.

However, it was Stonebwoy’s performance that truly captivated the audience.

Stonebwoy, whose real name is Livingstone Etse Satekla, was the star of the night. He not only won the prestigious “Artiste of the Year” award but also took home six awards in total, making him the most awarded artist of the evening. • I ‘sacked’ Wendy Shay from RuffTown Records – Bullet

I ‘sacked’ Wendy Shay from RuffTown Records – Bullet

Ghanaian music sensation Wendy Shay has officially parted ways with RuffTown Records after a seven-year collaboration. The split, which has been the subject of much speculation and online shade-throwing, was confirmed by the label’s CEO, Bullet, in a candid interview on UTV’s United Showbiz hosted by MzGee.

Bullet, the mastermind behind RuffTown Records, revealed that the decision stemmed from a recent misunderstanding between him and Wendy Shay. According to Bullet, Wendy’s contract with RuffTown had expired, and an American record label approached them with an offer to sign the artist. Despite considering the proposal, Bullet remained unconvinced of its benefits and ultimately advised against Wendy signing the deal.

Tensions escalated when Wendy Shay and Bullet could not see eye-to-eye on the matter, leading to a heated argument. In a moment of anger, Bullet told Wendy she was free to leave the label if she was unhappy. “Most of the time when artistes and their labels fall out, we blame the artiste. However, in our case, I blame myself. I got angry at a point and told her if she wanted to go she could go,” Bullet admitted during the show.

The fallout has been publicly visible, with Wendy Shay taking to social media to throw shades at her former label and manager. This sparked rumors that the drama was merely a publicity stunt to promote a new song. However, Bullet’s revelations indicate that the split is genuine and stemmed from real disagreements.

Bullet expressed his pride in Wendy Shay’s accomplishments despite their fallout, acknowledging that she had even released a diss track directed at him. “I have seen that she has done a diss song for me as a result. But I am proud of her accomplishment since we fell out,” he said.

Wendy Shay, known for hits like “Uber Driver” and “Bedroom Commando,” has yet to make an official statement regarding her future plans. However, her departure from RuffTown marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in her career. Fans and industry watchers alike are keen to see where Wendy Shay’s journey will take her next.

The red carpet event at 2024 TGMA looked like a marketplace – Ola Michaels

Entertainment pundit and broadcaster Ola Michael has expressed strong disapproval over the organization of the red carpet event at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs). During an appearance on United Showbiz on UTV on June 8, 2024, Michael described the red carpet scene as chaotic and poorly managed, comparing it to a marketplace.

Michael’s critique centered on the apparent lack of planning and the involvement of what he perceived as an inexperienced event planner. “The red carpet event is an event on its own. But up till now, Charterhouse has yet to master it. This year’s red carpet looked like a marketplace. Maybe they didn’t plan it, or they got someone unqualified to plan it. They just allowed anyone on the carpet,” he stated on the show hosted by MzGee.

Michael emphasized the need for a more structured and professional approach to the red carpet, highlighting the incongruity of seasoned industry professionals like renowned music producer Bullet sharing the space with inappropriately dressed attendees. “A professional like Bullet will come on the red carpet, someone who can help boost the allure of it, and he was being forced to share the red carpet with someone who wore a polythene bag,” he remarked. “Someone else put on a nurse’s uniform and was allowed to come on the red carpet,” he added, stressing the importance of maintaining the red carpet’s prestige.

The broadcaster suggested that with proper management, the red carpet could become a standout feature of the TGMAs, even surpassing the awards show itself in popularity. “I think they should polish it up; it’s been 25 years. If it continues like this, people will lose interest in it. If we do it well, it will get to a point where people will just come for the red carpet and not the event itself,” he concluded.

Ola Michael’s comments echo sentiments shared by other industry figures who have also called for a revamp of red carpet events following the ‘disappointing’ display at the 2024 TGMAs. Earlier, on GhanaWeb TV’s E-Forum Show, media personality Sammy Rasta criticized the TGMA red carpet for lacking the respect seen at similar events in other countries. He urged the organizers to treat the red carpet as a showcase for fashion and to involve industry experts in its planning.

Rasta pointed to the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) as a model where the red carpet often eclipses the main event. He recommended that TGMA organizers collaborate with seasoned fashion influencers like Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) to elevate the red carpet experience.

As the TGMAs continue to grow, the call for a more polished and professionally managed red carpet event is gaining momentum among industry insiders and fans alike.

Highlife musician Akwaboah Jnr. recently addressed the wave of mockery and criticism that followed his wedding, particularly focusing on his decision to wipe his lips after kissing his bride. Clarifying the intention behind the gesture, Akwaboah explained that it was not an indication of his displeasure with the kiss. Instead, he aimed to avoid an awkward appearance, as lipstick can sometimes smear post-kiss.

In an interview on The Delay Show, aired on June 8, 2024, and monitored by GhanaWeb, Akwaboah discussed his choice to marry a virgin despite having children with two other women. “Nobody marries their enemies. That’s the choice I made, and I’m happy about it,” he stated.

He further elaborated on his decision to wipe his lips, noting his experience performing at numerous weddings. “I’ve observed that after the bride and groom kiss, the groom often ends up with lipstick all over his lips. I didn’t clean because of public opinion; I cleaned because I knew her lipstick would be on my lips. To avoid looking awkward, I had to clean it,” he explained.

Addressing suggestions that the gesture implied he was not truly into his bride, Akwaboah firmly denied such interpretations.

Akwaboah Jnr. married his 28-year-old partner, Theresa, in May, with videos from the ceremony attracting considerable online attention. The couple exuded elegance, with Akwaboah in a white kaftan and his bride in traditional kente attire.

Even if you combine a law degree and PhD, I’ll choose a foreign passport – Wayoosi

Kumawood actor Joseph Osei, popularly known as Wayoosi, has weighed in on the ongoing debate comparing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) to a foreign passport.

He asserts that the two should not be compared, as they serve different purposes.

In a video posted on social media, Wayoosi expressed his preference for a foreign passport over a PhD, emphasizing the practical benefits it offers. He further stated that even if a law degree were added to the PhD, he would still choose the passport.

“Enough of this pointless debate, okay? How can you equate a foreign passport with a PhD? Even if you combine a law degree with a PhD, my choice would still be the foreign passport. Don’t overthink this and stress yourself,” he said in Twi.

This discussion gained momentum after Prof. Kobby Mensah, a lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, remarked that a PhD is not suitable for those urgently seeking employment. “A PhD is not for the hungry. It is not for gaining employment, neither is it for entrepreneurship. Get that!” the lecturer wrote on X.

Other celebrities, including John Dumelo, Sister Afia, and Efia Odo, have also shared their perspectives on the debate.

But later explained that working with Enterprise Insurance is a condition set by the Agric Development Bank, the financial institution STC sought a credit facility from.

Global Fund to terminate support to Ghana over delay in clearing 118 containers of medicines

The Global Fund has issued a final warning to Ghana, urging immediate clearance of tuberculosis (TB) and malaria medications that arrived in the country last October. Despite government assurances, some of the shipments remain stuck at the port, risking expiration.

In April, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) secured tax waivers to clear the drugs after months of delay. However, demurrages and third-party charges totaling seven million cedis must be paid, leaving over 118 containers stranded at the port.

Samuel Hackman from the Global Fund Coordinating Mechanism Secretariat expressed concern, noting the impact on $45 million worth of commodities and the strain on Ghana’s relationship with the Global Fund.

“It is as bad as it was two months ago because the issue has not been fully resolved. This issue we are referring to is part of the $45 million commodities that were procured by the Global Fund under the GC Six Ghana, and part of it has still been held at the port. It’s very worrying. And it’s also denting the relationship that we have with the Global Fund as a country.”

“They have stated categorically to us that they would have done that earlier but for the long-standing relationship they would want to hold on and see the promises that we have put on the table and whether we will be able to fulfil them or not, and it is within a specified time that we need to do that or count ourselves out.

The Global Fund needs to explain this to its donors and the management of the fund need to explain this to their boss. And so nobody wants to find himself doing this kind of communication which does not bring anything, so I can assure you that if these commodities are not taken out of the port in time and in time means now, then communication will be received from the Global Fund.”

He emphasized the need for prompt action, as delays could lead to severed ties with the Global Fund. Hospitals are already facing critical shortages of essential drugs, especially TB medications, due to the backlog at the port.

President of the Ghana HIV and AIDS Network, Ernest Amoabeng Ortsin, emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the risks of drug resistance and the baffling inability to clear free medications from the port.

“It is true that we have run out of stock for TB medications. It is also true that the Global Fund has indicated that it is going to cut ties with us as a country. When it comes to treatment for these two diseases, HIV and TB for example, if you are on medication and you stop, your body develops a resistance. So later on, when you go back to the medication, it doesn’t work. It will mean that you need to be taken unto a second line of medications which are even more expensive.”

“These are medicines that the government of Ghana is not even procuring. They are being given to us for free and yet we simply cannot take them from our port. It is baffling.”

During a discussion with Captain Smart on Onua TV, Dada KD highlighted his concerns about the Ghana Police Service arresting individuals who strongly criticize the Akufo-Addo administration. He described this as a tactic used by the president to stifle dissenting voices.

Dada KD emphasized that while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may not be failing in governance overall, the blame for any shortcomings lies with President Akufo-Addo.

“I’m deeply disappointed. It’s not that the NPP is failing in governance, but rather it’s the Akufo-Addo administration that has disappointed us. Whether he agrees or not, we won’t support him in the next election,” he remarked.

Dada KD also mentioned the fear of being detained by national security for speaking critically, citing it as a method to suppress dissent against the government. Pay us to be interpreters in galamsey trials involving Chinese nationals – Chinese Speakers Association to gov’t

The Chinese Speakers Association of Ghana has responded to a recent news report highlighting the lack of interpreters needed to prosecute Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining activities.

In a detailed statement, the Association refuted these claims and expressed their readiness to provide interpreting services at a reasonable rate.

They are urging the government to engage with them to address this pressing issue.

Deputy Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, George Agbenowoshi, revealed a concerning issue regarding the prosecution of Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining activities, known as galamsey.

According to Mr Agbenowoshi, Chinese illegal miners arrested are often released by courts due to a lack of interpreters.

Speaking at a mini ceremony organized by Parliament for the 2024 Green Ghana Day, Mr Agbenowoshi explained that the language barrier causes cases to drag on in court, ultimately resulting in dismissal.

The comment made by the Commission has not been welcomed by members of the general public who believe Ghana has Chinese interpreters. They cited tertiary institutions such as the University of Ghana where Chinese is being taught as a course.

According to Ghanaian users on social media, Chinese tutors could be used by the court as interpreters to ensure delivery of justice is not marred.

As of May 2023, the Attorney General Godfred Dame said the office of the Attorney-General and Department of Justice was conducting criminal prosecutions against 727 persons who engaged in illegal mining activities across the country.

Meanwhile, the Forestry Commission in the Greater Accra Region has identified the lack of logistical support, including vehicles and motorbikes, at its district offices as a major obstacle in combating illegal mining and other degrading activities.

He explained that he devised a campaign strategy to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through a street musical concert. In the end, Agya Koo took GH¢40,000 worth of instruments for himself, Pasco took the Tundra, and I received nothing, despite being the one who introduced the idea,” he stated.

TGMA must involve different engineers to improve sound quality – Ashis to Charterhouse

Following the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), there’s been a flurry of criticism, particularly regarding the performances of the featured artists. King Promise‘s performance has particularly sparked widespread attention on social media, with many netizens heavily criticizing his vocal delivery.

However, amidst the debate, artist manager Nana Poku Ashis has weighed in on the matter. He believes that King Promise shouldn’t bear all the blame for the performance mishap, attributing part of the issue to poor sound quality at the event.

During a conversation on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, while discussing the various aspects of the event, Nana Poku Ashis proposed a solution to prevent such occurrences in future editions. He suggested that the awards require additional sound engineers and personnel to provide support in various capacities. According to him, Charter House, the organizers, should bring in more sound experts to enhance the overall quality of the sound production.

“I would like to suggest inviting different professionals to join us next year to assist with sound because sound quality is crucial,” he remarked.

He also shared an anecdote comparing sound experiences from past events, particularly highlighting a scenario involving Samini and Tarrus Riley’s performances at Blitz on the Hills in Kwahu. Despite Samini’s well-received performance, he noted a significant improvement in sound quality when Tarrus Riley’s engineer took charge, albeit after some initial adjustments.

Contrary to public opinion, he emphasized that King Promise wasn’t singing off-key but was struggling with key notes due to the sound he was hearing on stage.

In essence, Nana Poku Ashis advocated for a collaborative effort involving experienced sound engineers to ensure better sound quality and improved performances in future editions of the TGMA.

King Promise’s TGMA performance wasn’t sabotaged, he had a bad day – Robert Klah

Head of Public Events and Communications at Charter House, Robert Klah has addressed the issues surrounding King Promise‘s performance at the recent 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

During an interview on Joy Prime, Klah clarified that neither the artist nor the technical team should bear blame, emphasizing that both sides put in their best efforts, which unfortunately didn’t lead to the desired outcome.

Klah attributed King Promise’s subpar performance to an off day, a circumstance he deemed normal and relatable to anyone in the industry. He acknowledged initial sound issues but noted that they were promptly addressed. Despite the challenges, Klah emphasized that the decision to have King Promise as the opening act was a collective one by the board.

Given King Promise’s track record in previous editions, the team was optimistic about an outstanding performance. Klah highlighted the extensive preparation invested to ensure all performances were successful.

He urged the public to refrain from harshly criticizing King Promise, instead encouraging support for improvement in future events, citing the artist’s talent and potential.

Regarding the technical challenges faced during the event, Klah mentioned ongoing efforts to rectify them. Issues like delayed red carpet events affecting timing and the number of award categories presented are being reviewed for future editions. Adjustments such as starting the red carpet earlier at 5 or 6 p.m. are under consideration.

Overall, Klah emphasized the collaborative effort to improve future events and expressed confidence in King Promise’s ability to deliver better performances in upcoming shows.

‘Case’ was the biggest song in TGMA Best Collaboration category not KIDI’s ‘Likor’- Mr. Drew

Ghanaian artist Andrew Nii Commey Otoo, known as Mr. Drew in music circles, expressed his disappointment at not clinching the Collaboration of the Year award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) ceremony held on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

In an interview on 3music TV, the artist behind “This Year” shared his feelings about the outcome. He felt deserving of the award over KiDi, the eventual winner, arguing that his song “Case” was the standout track in that category.

“I was disappointed about not winning the award. ‘Case’ was the biggest and most impactful song in that category. Collaborating with an unknown artist and seeing the song soar to success, changing both our lives—that’s the kind of impact collaborations are supposed to have, right? It just didn’t make sense to me,” Mr. Drew explained.

Despite his disappointment, Mr. Drew made it clear that he harbors no animosity toward KiDi for winning the award, even though he believes the decision was illogical.

  • I’ll establish a dedicated television channel for the creative arts industry – Mahama

I’ll establish a dedicated television channel for the creative arts industry – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged to establish a dedicated television channel for the creative arts industry if he wins the 2024 election. Speaking at a policy dialogue with creative arts stakeholders held at the AH Hotel in Accra on Friday, June 7, 2024, the former President emphasized the importance of diversifying revenue streams for creatives beyond ticket sales by leveraging viewership.

“On the digital terrestrial television, we will acquire a special channel for the creative arts. It will be an events channel where you can display all your work. If you have a big show like Stonebwoy performing or Amandzeba performing, or a large event featuring many performers, we will have the technology to make that show payable. So even though it will be on the DTT, you would have to pay electronically and then you will be given a code to watch,” he explained.

Mahama noted that, unlike in other parts of the world where creatives are among the wealthiest individuals, the same cannot be said for Ghana. “The creative arts sector is incredibly important and has the potential to generate millions of jobs. Many young people are brimming with talent but lack the opportunities to showcase it. By solidifying the foundation of the creative industry, we can create numerous opportunities for our youth,” he remarked.

In anticipation of the NDC’s manifesto launch, Mahama also outlined additional strategies aimed at elevating the creative industry should they be granted the mandate to govern once again.
