  • Former ‘SM’ member exposes Shatta Wale over Ebony’s death

The social media war between artiste manager, Bulldog, and dancehall musician Shatta Wale continues to thicken as a lot more shocking revelations come to light.

In yet another twist to the allegations, a former friend of Shatta Wale, Wizla Finito, has come out with more damning claims against the controversial dancehall musician.

Wizla Finito, in a Facebook post called out Shatta Wale to tell Ghanaians about how the late Ebony Reigns and Vybrant Fire died.

According to him, Shatta Wale saw the two talented acts as a threat to his career and had to take measures to eliminate them,

Finito also shared how Shatta Wale shed crocodile tears at the burial ceremony of the late Ebony only to confuse Ghanaians.

This allegation from Shatta Wale’s former friend comes after the ‘Gringo’ hitmaker previously accused Bulldog of being responsible for the demise of the late Fennec Okyere, a former manager of Kwaw Kese.

He wrote on his Facebook page…

Ghana singer Ebony born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng died with two others on February ,9, 2018 at the age of 20 in a tragic motor accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi Road.

While Vybrant Faya, real name Emmanuel Kojo Quayeson, died on Sunday, October 23, 2016. He was crossing the street to enter the Accra Mall when a motorbike rider knocked him down.

  • No one cautioned him against attacking me – Shatta Wale reacts to backlash in Bulldog fued

Dancehall musician Shatta Wale is not pleased about the criticisms he is facing from the public after he claimed to know his former manager Bullgod’s secret in relation to the murder of Fennec Okyere.

In a Facebook Live, the ‘Melissa’ hitmaker said that no one warned Bullgod to stop mentioning his name or refrain from talking about him when granting interviews.

“Nobody advised him. Nobody warned him about me. Me, I don’t care,” he said.

He stated that he will always retaliate when he is disrespected or hurt even by the people he considers friends.

“if I am moving with a friend and the friend wants to show me wicked, I go show him wicked (sic). If a friend respects me, I will respect him, if a friend smiles at me I will smile. If they frown, I’ll also frown.”

Shatta Wale proceeded to call on Kwaw Kese, whom Fennec Okyere used to manage to “wake up and fight for your right.”

This comes a day after Shatta Wale shocked the public when he threatened to reveal a secret Bullgod told him in relation to the death of the artiste manager.

The ‘Ayoo’ hitmaker stated that he is ready to tell any court what Bullgod told him about the murder of Fennec Okyere.

This threat was in reaction to the leakage of the list of artistes featuring on the tracks for Shatta Wale’s upcoming album, ‘Gift of God (GOG) by Bullgod.

This caught the attention of Kwaw Kese whose career Fennec Okyere managed before his passing in 2014.

Kwaw shared a screenshot of Shatta Wale’s post and called on the Police to get justice for his former manager.

The Police later released a statement noting that they were in touch with Shatta Wale and hoped to get relevant information to help find the culprit.

    Fennec Okyere’s death

Fennec Okyere, who was the manager of the controversial musician, Kwaw Kese, was murdered at his Manet Gardens residence on Spintex Road, Accra on Thursday, March 13, 2014, by unknown assailants. He died at age 31.

Following his death, Bullgod, born Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson, was picked up by the Police Criminal Investigative Department (CID).

He was arrested in Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra, as a suspect in the death of Fennec Okyere.

This was because Bullgod (then known as Bulldog) who had regular beefs with Fennec Okyere, had supposedly threatened him in an interview on radio.

While on the Police charge sheet Bullgod was to face the charge of conspiracy to commit murder, his plea was not taken.

In 2017, the Bullhaus Entertainment CEO was freed from the charges in relation with the alleged murder, with then Attorney-General, Gloria Akuffo saying the state was no longer interested in prosecuting Bulldog over the alleged murder of Fennec Okyere.

This was contained in the A-G’s advice on the case docket. Kwaw Kese registered his unhappiness about the development.

“Even the prosecutors were not going to court. I believe our security system is very weak,” a very disappointed Kwaw Kese told Lexis Bill in an interview on Behind the Fame on Drive Time on Joy FM in 2018.

But, Bullgod has consistently maintained that he is innocent, thus had no hand in the passing of Fennec Okyere.

According to him, the jabs they threw at each other were aimed at promoting their artistes and also to remain relevant as managers.

In a 2022 interview on Hitz FM, Bullgod maintained his innocence adding that he never threatened Fennec Okyere, despite their disagreements.

Meanwhile, Kwaw Kese, year in and year out, continues to celebrate his former manager on his death anniversary.

Meanwhile, Shatta Wale has welcomed the Police’s decision to collaborate with him in their quest to re-investigate the murder of the late artiste manager.

  • Murder allegation against Bullgod: Lawyer Sosu dissects Shatta Wale’s claim

Ghanaian lawyer and politician Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu has given legal education concerning the accusation Shatta Wale levelled against his former manager, Bullgod, for having a hand in the murder of one Fenick.

In a social media post by the Dancehall artiste on November 2, 2022, he mentioned he was ready to tell the court how the act was planned and executed.

Due to Bullgod’s history as regards the murder of Fennec Okyere, some social media users concluded that Shatta Wale’s ‘Fenick’ was actually Fennec Okyere who before his demise was the manager of rapper Kwaw Kese. In 2018, Bullgod was discharged by the court in relation to the murder case.

Some have chastised Shatta Wale for leveling what they described as a serious accusation following his altercation with Bullgod who was once his manager.

Speaking to Abrantepa on GhanaWeb TV’s E-Forum, lawyer Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu mentioned that it will be presumptuous to connect the two names – Fenick and Fennec.

“If even a correlation is drawn between the two names, that may be presumptive. I think that if anybody really believes that Bullgod indeed has committed some crime and knows that he has evidence to that effect, the best place is to go to the police station and not social media,” he advised.

“So, I think that you may have to ignore that post and then move forward. Crime investigation is not done on social media.

“It is done at the police station, so if anybody has critical information that can help any court convict somebody, then, it is the police that you go to,” he added.

Asked if the conclusion is that there is nothing serious about what Shatta Wale shared on social media, the legal brain said “that’s the point. It has no consequence but if the CIDs are interested, they may invite him for further information if he really believes he has it.”

“But the question is that if you do have it, why has it taken you this long? You heard that somebody has been arrested for that crime so why didn’t you go and volunteer that information? That’s why I doubt we should take that post seriously,” Sosu stated.

Meanwhile, the police has said it is in touch with Shatta Wale following his claim that he has information about how Bullgod planned the murder of Fenick.

“The Police have made contact with Shata Wale who is cooperating with us on the matter. The Police would like to put on record that the recently established Cold Case Unit, has been working for months on all unresolved murder cases, including that of Fennec Okyere with support from the affected families,” a statement by the police shared on social media read.

Fennec Okyere was murdered on Thursday, March 13, 2014, murdered at his Manet Gardens residence on Spintex Road, Accra, by unknown assailants. He was 31.

Bullgod was later arrested on the basis that he had supposedly threatened Fennec Okyere on air.

For years, Ghanaians have hailed talent manager, Bullgod, for contributing to the growth of Shatta Wale’s music career and being by his side through thick and thin.

Although they encountered some challenges with the industry witnessing a breakout, they managed to patch things up. Shatta and Bullgod’s bond and friendship were enviable until a few years ago.

It seems that things have escalated with Shatta Wale claiming that Bullgod was never his manager nor in charge of his affairs.

“I was my own manager and CEO of Shatta Movement till today.

“Stop lying to people that you managed me. I employed you and I was paying you #differentartiste,” read Shatta’s Facebook post.

The award-winning Dancehall musician indicated that the talent manager has for years taken credit for what he personally built through his hard work and dedication in growing the Shatta Movement.

“The lies in this country erh ..No wonder many are not happy with their fellow brothers’ success.”

This comes in after Bullgod in a series of interviews called out his former artiste for diverting from his goal and being ungrateful to the same people who helped shape his brand.

Some few weeks ago, Bullgod posited that Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy was living the dream of Shatta adding that the Ghanaian musician can’t record an international breakthrough due to his lack of appreciation.

When DJ Khaled published a video of in his mansion, Bullgod was quick to drug Shatta by offering him a ‘friendly’ piece of advice.

“Shatta Wale all your money cannot buy this right here. I know your time will come but until then, honour those who honour you, it brings more blessings and supernatural growth. Stop being bitter… be happy for everyone,” Bullgod wrote in a Facebook post dated October 13.

  • ‘Sika mpɛ dede’ – Shatta Wale reacts to Akufo-Addo’s viral quote on Ghana cedi

In delivering his address on the state of the economy, President Akufo-Addo spent some time on the need for all Ghanaians to take steps to protect the Ghana cedi, which has been suffering massive depreciation against the United States dollar.

In seeking to buttress his point, Akufo-Addo employed a French proverb about money stating thus: “Fellow Ghanaians, as the French would say, l’argent n’aime pas le bruit, to wit, money does not like noise, sika mpɛ dede.

“Where there is chaos, where there is noise, where there is unrest, you will not find money. If you talk down your money, it will go down. If you allow some unidentifiable person to talk down your money, it will go down,” he stressed.

Shatta Wale joined the hundreds of tweeps who commented on the quote hours after the address. He wrote: “Sika mp3 dede ???????????????? I for feature this man la ????”

On social media, the proverb has gone viral with people poking fun with it, others analyzing it whiles others are giving it an interpretation of their own.

  • Akufo-Addo should resign now! – Bulldog insists

Artiste manager, Bulldog, has called for the president to resign immediately at a time when many Ghanaians are calling on the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to send in his resignation letter.

Speaking with Abrantepa on E-Forum, the former manager for Shatta Wale mentioned that if Ken Ofori-Atta is sacked, the president should go with him.

“The president should resign today. Nana Akufo-Addo should bow down his head in shame and walk out of the office now, now as we speak. He came, saying he had the men. He put the guy there. You understand. So if the guy so messing up, they should be leaving together.

“He should be leaving now. I keep saying this all the time, let me try and get this, and get this right so I don’t make a mistake. This is what I have been reading for a while now. Chapter 8 of the Constitution of Ghana, Section 69,” he said.

Reading Chapter 8, Section 69 of the Constitution held, he disclosed that it details how the president can be removed from office.

He added that if Ghanaians can take the initiative seriously, the president could be out of office before they knew it.

“You know what that says, Removal of the President. Everybody should read that. I don’t know why we are not exploring this. There is a loophole in the constitution that can get us to remove him today. We don’t have to wait until 2024.

“The minority has to target the president, he is the head. They have to target him. If you read it is clear. It is only hovering with a few legal words but if we have a proper lawyer to interpret it we will find the solution.

“If we start today, by next year around this time he is gone. It won’t take that long and we are all seated and just complaining. Do you know that today as we speak, you are being paid half your salary because everything is gone up?” he added.

In recent times, calls for the dismissal of the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Ken Ofori-Atta, have heightened in the last couple of weeks following the wobbling state of the economy.

While pressure mounts on the Minister to resign, some netizens have urged the President to step down.

  • Believe Shatta Wale; some gatekeepers are dreamkillers – Mzbel

Ghanaian female hitmaker, Mzbel, has seconded to an earlier claim made by Shatta Wale, who named some gatekeepers in the entertainment industry as dreamkillers.

According to Mzbel, a host of presenters including Abeiku Santana have vowed to block opportunities available to artistes who do not succumb to them in the industry.

Shatta in an earlier interview with Metro TV’s Paul Adom Otchere posited that he could have missed the chance of collaborating with American singer, Beyonce, if her team had reached out to him through some gatekeepers who do not like him.

“When Beyonce wanted to do a song with me if she had made a mistake and her team had gone to Mark Okraku Mantey, Andy Dosty, Da Don…I’m dead. They will tell Beyonce he’s an armed robber, a thief. Hey don’t do that…your skin, he will touch it and you will be dirty,” he earlier said.

Mzbel in a Facebook live video on October 26 borrowed the words of Shatta Wale when she called out Okay FM presenter, Abeiku Santana.

According to the ’16 Years’ hitmaker, in her case, Abeiku is one of the gatekeepers that has since been sabotaging her.

This revelation came to bare after the popular presenter termed Mzbel as a ‘former artiste’ and also discouraged a new act, Chief One from working with Mzbel.

Sharing her bad encounters with Abeiku Santana, she said: “When you go for an interview with Abeiku, he will ask silly questions and push you to answer questions you have vowed not to comment on. That is how he is.”

She continued: “Believe what Shatta Wale said. There are some people in our industry who ruin your opportunities. They are like the gatekeepers, so once they are contacted, you can kiss that thing goodbye because if you don’t suck up to them, they will sabotage you, but thanks to Mark Zuckerberg for Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. Now artistes can decide whether or not to go to Abeiku’s show. I don’t need you anymore, nobody needs you anymore.”

  • International appeal: ‘Who is Shatta Wale to question Sarkodie?’ – Arnold quizzes

Controversial Ghanaian entertainment critic, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, believes Shatta Wale has no authority to pass comments about the international appeal of his colleague musicians.

Speaking on Peace FM’s entertainment news review show, Arnold said that barring the Beyonce feature, Shatta Wale had no internal presence.

“If not for Beyonce, Shatta Wale virtually had no international presence. Shatta Wale himself alluded to the fact that he was a local champion and that he did not care about international appeal” he said.

“So who is Shatta Wale in terms of international presence and appeal to actually question a Sarkodie?” he asked.

He said Shatta Wale appears to carry himself as the gatekeeper of the industry though he has not reached that level yet.

“Sometimes, he (Shatta) makes it seem as if he is Lord. Like he sits on top of that place and then he’s seen it and done it all. So he has the opportunity to say that I can easily advise Sarkodie, I can easily advise Kelvyn Boy”, he explained.

Arnold’s comments come on the back of an interview where Shatta Wale said that rapper Sarkodie failed to take advantage of his relationship with record producer Akon to boost his career.

In the said interview, Shatta Wale explained that despite the amount of investment Sarkodie has made in his music and brand, the rapper’s career is still nothing to write home about.

  • Sarkodie not signing unto Akon’s record label is his best decision – Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo

Sarkodie’s decision not to sign with Akon’s Konvict Music record label is one of the most significant decisions of his career. This is according to controversial Ghanaian entertainment critic Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo.

His comments come at the back of an interview Shatta Wale said that rapper Sarkodie failed to take advantage of his relationship with record producer Akon to boost his career.

“Sarkodie not signing unto Akon’s label is one of the biggest decisions he has taken if that is true. It’s his best decision,” he said.

Speaking on Peace FM’s entertainment news review show, Arnold explained that Akon’s label has recently failed to project any signee.

“Tell me who you know from Akon’s label. Signee’s include OJ Boo Dirty, Demarco, Money J, Yaa Boy, Omega amongst others. I am super gratified with where Sarkodie independently has moved his career to where he is,” he added.

“Independently see where Sarkodie has moved his career from here to that international pedestal”, Arnold stated.

Arnold further stated that Shatta Wale is nowhere close to Sarkodie’s international significance.

“He (Shatta) cannot match Sarkodie’s international presence. It is a fact. How was he able to leverage on Beyonce’s collaboration? Since 2019, the likes of Burna Boy has gone on to win Grammy and playing on big big stadia. Why is Wale not comparing himself to Burna Boy?” he quizzed.

  • Being in jail felt like vacation – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has said that he felt at home when he was arrested and remand into Ankaful Prision for one week.

According to him, he was not humbled by the experience contrary to what people assumed.

The Shatta Movement President explained that the inmates did not treat him any differently from how his fans have always done.

“When I went to jail, I actually felt like I was at home. Because people have been in there for 30 years, and they’ve never seen Shatta Wale. So, as they saw me, they fetched water for me. Some brought me food (mostly from their visitors). Just like the way people see me on the streets and kneel down, it was the same way in the jailhouse,” he revealed TV3’s Showbiz 360.

He added that “it wasn’t like they took me there to suffer, it was like a vacation. It didn’t really humble me.

  • Sarkodie should have been bigger than Wizkid – Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale has asserted that Sarkodie should have superseded Nigerian superstar Wizkid’s stardom, but he’s still not as internationally renowned as expected.

According to the dancehall musician, the multi-award-winning rapper is one of Ghana’s artistes who invest in their craft – from his music to his personal image – and should have been bigger than the Afrobeats star.

He reckons that his expectation of Sarkodie is not at easy as it may seem that’s why he does not struggle to fight opinions dubbing him as a “local champion” only recognised by his fans in Ghana.

“You see someone like Sarkodie, he should have been bigger than Wizkid. You see what Sarkodie even did. Sarkodie is putting money into his craft in terms of videos and everything to make it perfectly right but he is still not there,” Shatta lamented at a roundtable on Joy FM’s ShowbizAtoZ.

Shatta Wale further noted that things would have been different if Sarkodie made good use of the opportunity he had with Akon.

He said Sarkodie failed to capitalize on his association with the Senegalese-American singer and record producer when he had the chance to sign onto Konvict Music some years ago.

“If Sarkodie is doing it and I am watching him and he is still not making it. What he is doing, he is alone and he is using his money to do that…especially when Akon mentioned Sarkodie’s name. He should have been there but I could also say that he didn’t even take advantage of it,” Shatta Wale added.

Meanwhile, Shatta Wale gave the impression that he sees Sarkodie as a role and fumbled when asked if he looks up to the rapper before deciding on whether or not to also invest in his craft.

  • Sarkodie should have been bigger than Wizkid – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale believes his colleague Sarkodie should have been a bigger artiste than Wizkid or just as big.

Speaking on Showbiz A-Z, Shatta Wale said that the ‘Pizza and Burger’ rapper failed to take advantage of his relationship with record producer Akon to boost his career.

He said that he has noticed Sarkodie invest so much money into his music and his brand but that has not propelled the rapper’s career as much as he expected to.

This he said is mostly because he is an independent artiste making moves in the industry all by himself with no label to back him like his Nigerian counterpart.

Shatta Wale said he is sometimes hesitant to invest as much as Sarkodie does for his music.

He explained that this is because he has been observing the ‘Highest’ rapper and his “slow progress” is not enough motivation for him and others to do the same.

“Sarkodie is doing it, I am watching him and he is still not making it. He is doing this alone and he is using money to do it,” Shatta Wale said.

But he acknowledged that being an independent artiste is not a walk in the park and thus was grateful to his fans for their patience.

However, he believes that it is the message he preaches that inspires people and will eventually propel him when he chooses to become a politician.

“Already some of the people think I feel I am too powerful but I don’t see myself like that. So, If I come out and say I want to be in politics, people might feel like it’s because I have fans who always surround me everywhere I go,” Shatta Wale said.

  • Why Shatta Wale’s ‘GoG’ has delayed

It has been a day after the advertised release date for Shatta Wale‘s feverishly anticipated album.

In August, performing at the ‘SummerStage’ event in New York City, the reggae/dancehall star excited the audience when he informed them they were first to know when the album would be out. “17 October,” he said.

17 October is Shatta Wale‘s birthday and so it was quite convincing for fans that the long play (LP or album) would be released as part of the celebration. That did not happen.

Rather, a song, purported to be an official single from the project was released on Sunday, October 16. It is called ‘Cash Out’.

Shatta Wale has not offered an official explanation for this delay but in an interview on Accra-based Joy FM on Saturday, October 15, he said all that has been said about the album so far was part of a marketing effort to whip up anticipation.

“This is where everbody around should give me a round of applause for keeping people talking for three years about ‘GoG’. That’s a whole marketing strategy,” the ‘On God’ hitmaker drew applause from the in-studio audience.

“It’s so beautiful that everyone is talking about it,” the Shatta Movement (SM) boss remarked and assured: “There is a ‘GoG’ album.”

According to the multiple award-winning musician and record producer who celebrated his 38th birth anniversary yesterday, the LP would have been out in the first year it was announced but for marketing concerns and logistics.

“Due to this, we had to fix some strategies and plans, you know and [find out] how to make people talk. We’ve already informed the fans. I’ve done this for three years,” he explained.

“When it comes, everybody should embrace it,” he added and boasted: “Because in the history of Ghana, I don’t know any artiste who has kept an album for three years and still had people talk about it for three years.”

He emphasised the uniqueness of his ploy and his brand resilience by adding should a different artiste “try this thing, you won’t [be engaged to] play a show(s) again in your life.”

  • Someone is also richer than you, respect the media – Nana Romeo to Shatta Wale

Radio Presenter, Nana Romeo, has asked Shatta Wale to desist from badmouthing the media, while benefiting from their support at the same time.

According to the Accra FM presenter, the dancehall musician is always found lambasting the Ghanaian media but the same people always promote his events.

Buttressing his points, Nana Romeo cited an example where Shatta’s birthday party was hyped by the media even though he was captured recently throwing jabs at them.

“Someone tell Shatta Wale he should stop playing that game. You cannot sacrifice someone for your fame. You’re always insulting and degrading DJ’s and presenters who usually support you. You look down on their lifestyle and even the sort of clothes and shoes they wear.

“Meanwhile, you need the media in everything you do. Just take a look at your birthday, most of the people that were present were from the media, yet after all this, you turn around and insult them,” Romeo established during his show.

Nana Romeo added that Shatta Wale should be bold enough to stop media houses from playing his songs to prove that he indeed wants to completely cut ties with them.

“If you’re bold enough to insult the media, then you might as well warn them not to play your songs on their radio. You need to issue a directive that any radio station who plays your songs will be sued, so we know how serious you are. Because you insult them but when they show up for your event, you’re happy about it. Also, not every media house needs you,” he added.

He however asked the SM boss to stop parading himself as the richest man there is, adding that there are people wealthier than him.

“You are a big man. Stop doing that. Everyone cannot be rich. Even among the musicians, someone is richer than you. Maybe you want to buy seven houses but someone out there just want to be hiding in his chamber and hall somewhere,” he said.

  • Being in jail felt like vacation – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has said that he felt at home when he was arrested and put in jail.

According to him, contrary to some people’s assumptions, he was not humbled by the experience. The Shatta Movement President explained that the inmates did not treat him any differently from how his fans have always done.

Speaking on TV3’s Showbiz 360, he stated that the inmates were eager to see him and some went as far as serving him.

“When I went to jail, I actually felt like I was at home. Because people have been in there for 30 years, and they’ve never seen Shatta Wale. So, as they saw me, they fetched water for me. Some brought me food (mostly from their visitors). Just like the way people see me on the streets and kneel down, it was the same way in the jailhouse,” he revealed.

He added that “it wasn’t like they took me there to suffer, it was like a vacation. It was like a vacation. It didn’t really humble me.”

Shatta Wale was arrested and remanded for seven days following a hoax shooting incident he instigated after one Bishop Stephen Akwasi prophesied that the singer would die the same way South African Reggae legend Lucky Dube passed.

Although it was a ‘no show’ on October 17, Shatta Wale blessed music lovers with a single off the GOG album titled ‘Cash Out’.

The new single received positive feedback from the local industry. This was however not without some criticism as some cited him for ‘sounding like Burna Boy’, ‘sampling Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’, among others.

Meanwhile, Shatta had a time of his life as friends and loved ones organized a surprise birthday party for him in his newly acquired mansion in Accra. He was presented with a pimped Range Rover, which had his name boldly imprinted on it.

  • They presented bauxite and left the gold – Shatta Wale speaks on Global Citizen concert

You might’ve heard Shatta Wale hit back at critics after he was left out of the Global Citizen event in Accra few weeks ago.

Well, he has finally disclosed that he didn’t really feel bad about the snub.

Shatta Wale spent time on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM last Saturday, and among the many things he touched on, was his feelings about his non-involvement in the Global Citizen Festival.

“I didn’t feel bad at all, it’s just that I felt everybody in the country really slept on Shatta Wale, including the President”, he stressed.

Considered an A-list artiste, Shatta Wale was disappointed that President Akufo-Addo who made an appearance on the night, didn’t seek to find out, prior to the event, whether or not he was billed to perform. A grand platform with a top ranking artiste as himself would have been beneficial to the Ghanaian entertainment industry in the long run, he reckons.

The disappointment also stems from his association with the President, one which he describes as a father-and-son relationship. “The President is my [man]. He knows all the problems [in the entertainment industry]. I’m even tired of explaining things to them”, Shatta Wale revealed, with belief that his addition to the line-up would’ve been a boost.

He likened himself to a precious material. “It’s like an investor arriving in Ghana and presenting us with an opportunity to advertise our raw materials. Then we present to him bauxite, cocoa, and all the other raw materials, and leave out gold (him). That’s how I feel”, Shatta Wale bemoaned.

  • Give Mahama one more chance – Shatta Wale campaigns

Dancehall act, Shatta Wale dreams of the second coming of the ‘fourth John’. He is advocating for Ex-President Mahama to be voted into power once again.

He shared this thought on Showbiz A-Z last Saturday on Joy FM. Shatta Wale told George Quaye, “We have to give Mahama one more chance”.

The Dancehall heavyweight defended his reason. “When Mahama was in power, he was doing everything for every youth to survive. I was getting opportunities from the presidency”, he elaborated.

The ‘Mahama Paper’ hit-maker revealed that many other music artistes including Hiplife group VIP, were involved with the previous government in its projects that impacted society positively. “I was doing a back-to-school project… and I spoke to one of them in the [previous government], and before I realized, they were supporting the project”, Shatta Wale underscored.

Critics might argue that Shatta’s opinion is biased, however, he maintains that even if the Akufo-Addo-led government has engaged present-day artistes, the aftermath of those interventions have not made the news. He believes that the creative arts industry stands a better chance with Ex-President Mahama in power.

Shatta Wale also took the opportunity to talk about his long-awaited ‘Gift of God’ album. The yet-to-be-released body of work which has been promoted for the last three years had its cover art released last week. It was followed by the release of its first single titled ‘Cash Out’ few hours to his birthday. According to Shatta, “when [the album comes], everyone should embrace it”.

“It is teamwork…It is a company that is working so if Dennis, Alodia, and all those people cannot get themselves attached to those companies to work then these are the words that will come out of his mouth because me, Shatta Wale I believe if I get a Live Nation behind me I can sell O2 [hands down].”

He noted that such words bring down the Ghanaian music industry.

The Dancehall Artiste stressed that Black Sherif could even fill up O2 Arena.

“If you like let’s mark it. Let Empire say they will put up a show for Black Sherif in O2 Arena right now, the boy is going to fill 20,000 or even 30,000.”

  • I’ve made over $300,000 from shows in Ghana only – Shatta Wale

A typical Shatta Wale threw his weight about when he appeared on the show Showbiz 360 hosted by regular face Giovani Caleb.

Shatta Wale bragged that he is probably the first Ghanaian artist whose performance earnings from gigs in Ghana brought in roughly $320,000 in a row.

The Dancehall/Reggae genre specialist disclosed that he received $100,000 in performance fees from Afro Nation and the group responsible for bringing Cardi B to Ghana, respectively.

He added that the organizers of Cardi B’s event in Ghana disregarded their agreement, which is why he did not perform there.

“I am the only artist in Ghana that has been able to charge shows $100,000 three times in a row. And I won’t lie.

The first Afro Nation show that they did in Ghana, the first time, they paid me $100,000 cash. Cardi B’s show that was held in Ghana, I was paid another $100,000. I took the money and didn’t go because they violated the contract. That’s what happened because it was a nice agreement.”

Shatta Wale also revealed that he did not perform after Sadiq Abu, formerly of 3Music, paid him $120,000 because they also breached their contract.

“Sadiq’s Wildaland, I got paid $120,000. If the other artsites want to know, I want to tell them. So if I tell somebody that I’ve been able to make $300,000 from shows in Ghana, they will think I’m bragging.”

  • Shatta Wale discloses how much he charges for shows in Ghana

Shatta Wale is arguably the most expensive artist to book in Ghana and has spoken about how much he charges for his shows.

In a recent interview, Shatta Wale disclosed that he is the only artist in Ghana who charges $1000,000 for a show.

According to him, he understands the business of making money out of music and thus has capitalized by charging higher than what his peers and competitors charge.

“I am the first artist in Ghana to charge $100,000 for a show, he told Giovanni Caleb on TV3 when he was pushed to talk about how much he makes.

Shatta Wale also added that sometimes he takes money for shows and never shows up due to a breach of contractual agreements.

The SM president intimated that he took $120,000 for the Wildaland Show and never showed up. He also took $100,000 for the Cardi B show in Ghana and never showed up.

Although Shatta Wale has not been booked for shows like Afronation, Afrochella and even Global Citizen festival, Shatta Wale has maintained that he remains the artist who raised the bar when it came to artists taking ‘good cash” to play at shows.

  • No Ghanaian act can sell out the O2 Arena yet – Event organiser asserts

Filling up the O2 Arena in London is a huge feat, and Dennis Tawiah has contended that no Ghanaian artiste can, presently, reach this milestone.

Lexis Bill asked him on Personality Profile on Joy FM, Thursday evening, “do you think any Ghanaian artiste can sell out the O2 Arena’s 20,000 space?” The CEO of Akwaaba UK Group kept it simple, “at present, No!”

“Which Ghanaian artiste, on record, as we speak, has even sold a 5,000 capacity venue in the UK?” he wondered. The closest, he recalls, is Reggie Rockstone or Sarkodie who might have drawn about 4,000 audiences to their shows some years ago.

Dennis is an experienced UK-based event organizer, with a rich record of hosting some of the biggest African entertainment shows in his territory. He further revealed that the biggest crowd a Ghanaian event has ever registered was at the O2 Academy, Brixton, with more than 4,000 music lovers in attendance. “That was Lumba, Kojo Antwi and Amakye Dede, altogether, in 1994”, he quickly underscored.

In an attempt to defend his assertion, Dennis Tawiah explained that music must be appealing to people from all walks of life in a particular radius, in order to attract huge numbers to a show of 20,000 capacity.

The experienced event organizer, however, believes that Ghana’s biggest shot at filling the O2 Arena in London, currently, could possibly result from assembling some of the biggest names in our music space for a night of thrills. If Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Samini, Shatta Wale, Kidi, Kuami Eugene and Black Sherif headline a concert, “we can try” to fill up the O2, Dennis believes, adding that, “it’s going to be difficult”.

“Now we’ve got Black Sherif. There’s a lot of pressure on him to make it but it shouldn’t be only Blacko. There should be other artistes joining him, making sure we get that global attention”, he advised. Dennis believes everything is possible, however, Ghanaian artistes need to build a united front in order to reach milestones of single-handedly selling out huge arenas.

Dennis Tawiah recently picked up the Diasporan Award at the 7th EMY Africa Awards, held in Accra and powered by Joy Entertainment. He is mostly celebrated for his relentless efforts in promoting the African culture in the diaspora through entertainment. His company, The Akwaaba Group, has been the force behind Miss Ghana-UK, Ghana Independence celebrations as well as Party in the Park in the United Kingdom.

Entertainment pundit and former manager of Shatta Wale, Bullgod, says he will always love the dancehall artist.

Speaking in an interview with Prince Tsegah on U Say Weytin, Bullgod claims that despite his mild dispute with the award-winning musician, he still has a love for him.

According to Bullgod, his recent outburst on social media is mainly direct him to take the right path in the industry.

“My love for Nii Amarh will never down. I don’t harbour things. My love for him will never die and that is why I am still on his case.”

Bullgod revealed that though his relationship with Shatta Wale is not as cool as it was previously, he is ready to go public with some of the things he would have said to him privately.

“My love for him will never die and that is why I am still on his case. If I don’t get close to him to tell him what I have to say privately, he will hear from me every day from now publicly,” he said on Hitz FM.

It is no secret that the two have not been on good terms following their separation a few years ago.

However, things have taken a different turn since Bullgod tipped Black Sherif’s debut album, The Villain I Never Was to do better than Shatta Wale’s upcoming Gift of God album.

His statement did not sit well with Shatta Wale’s fans who expressed their displeasure on social media.

Shatta Wale also took to social media to write what many call a subtle response to his former manager and friend. In the post, he said: “If Blacko’s album will do better than us, we like and we hear. At the end of the day, Ghana wins. Foolish people.

  • NAM1 deserves a monument for his impact on entertainment industry – Bullgod

Former manager of Shatta Wale and the Head of A&R at Zylofon Music, Bullgod, has proposed that a giant statue should be erected in honour of Nana Appiah Mensah.

According to Bullgod, no businessman past or present has made as much impact in the Ghanaian music industry as Nana Appiah Mensah, aka NAM1.

In an interview on Hitz FM’s ‘U Sey Weytin,’ Bullgod praised Nana Appiah Mensah for investing huge sums of money into the creative industry.

“No record label had come like Zylofon. He bought cars, and houses and gave them money. Nana Appiah Mensah deserves a statue in Ghana for what he did for the entertainment space.”

According to the artiste manager, Nana Appiah Mensah had great plans and was keenly working to put Ghana music at the top until the MenzGold saga set in.

“All these numbers these boys are running would have been done way before. Here we are, we had to cut our trees down and let foreign ones grow.”

He added that “Zylofon was responsible for those international plugs… I was head of Zylofon as the CEO of Zylofon Music, there was a deliberate attempt to push every Zylofon act.”

The Zylofon Music record label which signed Shatta Wale, Becca, Joyce Blessing, Stonebwoy, and Kumi Guitar, among others, collapsed when its CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah went down over the Menzgold scandal which rocked the nation back in 2018.
